Yuzvendra Chahal, on Monday (November 20), suffered yet another setback in his international career as he was snubbed from the T20I squad for the upcoming series between Team India and Australia.

India’s 15-man squad for the upcoming five-match series was announced by the BCCI on Monday. The selectors have picked a new-look side as most of the players who recently played in the ICC World Cup have been rested. In the absence of the senior players as well as Hardik Pandya, who has been leading the T20I team since last year, Suryakumar Yadav has been named as stand-in captain.

Opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad, who led India to Asian Games glory in October, has been named as the vice-captain. And one of the biggest surprises in the squad was Yuzvendra Chahal’s absence. The leg-spinner was recently snubbed for the Asia Cup as well as the World Cup after falling down the pecking order in the 50-over format.

Yuzvendra Chahal reacts:

Yuzvendra Chahal was widely expected to be named in the T20I squad. With the T20I World Cup taking place next year, many considered him a key member of the team. However, the selectors seem to have made it clear that he does not feature prominently in their plans for the marquee event.

Soon after the squad was announced by the BCCI, Yuzvendra Chahal took to X to react. The disappointed leg-spinner just posted a no-word single emoji cryptic post which went viral in no time as fans sympathized with him.

Yuzvendra Chahal last played for India during the West Indies tour where he managed just 5 wickets in 5 T20Is. He is currently India’s leading wicket-taker in the shortest format of the game. The Haryana star has picked up 96 wickets in 80 T20Is so far.

Meanwhile, the five-match T20I series between India and Australia is scheduled to be played from November 23.

India squad: Suryakumar Yadav (Captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad (vice-captain), Ishan Kishan, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Shivam Dube, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar
