  • Aakash Chopra took an indirect dig at Virat Kohli.

  • Virat Kohli hit his 49th ton in ODIs to equal Sachin Tendulkar's record.

Former India National Cricket Team opening batsman Aakash Chopra took to his official X handle to take a brutal dig at the batting maestro Virat Kohli for ‘milestone obsession’.

Kohli is celebrating his 35th birthday on Sunday, November 5, and he presented himself with a great birthday present by smashing a record-breaking century in the match against the Proteas in the ICC World Cup 2023.

The batting maestro played cautious cricket against South Africa National Cricket Team after the dismissal of openers at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. He tried to accelerate at times but was not able to hit boundaries.

Looking at Kohli playing cautiously en route to his century, Aakash Chopra took to X to take an indirect dig at the batter for playing selfish cricket and being obsessed with the milestones.

“The obsession is unreal,” former India National Cricket Team opening batsman Chopra posted on his official X handle.

In the end, Kohli completed his century off 119 balls, with 10 fours. With his century, Kohli created history as this was his 49th ton in 50-over cricket. He equaled the ‘God of Cricket’ Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most hundreds in ODIs.

Nobody has understood the pulse of ODI batting like Virat Kohli – Aakash Chopra

After Kohli completed his ton, the cricketer-turned-commentator took to X to shower praise on the batsman. He said that no player understands the pulse of 50-over cricket like Kohli.

“Nobody has understood the pulse of ODI batting like Kohli. Ton Machine Kohli has 49 to his name. What a way to celebrate his own birthday. Well played,” Chopra posted on X after Kohli’s ton.

Kohli finished his innings at the score of 101 runs off 121 balls and India posted a massive total of 326/5 on the board.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri also lauded Kohli, saying that he scored his runs on a surface that was difficult to bat on. He stated:

“It was amazing and perfect innings from Virat Kohli in this pitch. The way pitch behaving it’s very difficult to score and the way Virat Kohli scored hundred was outstanding”.
