The SA vs AUS second semi-final of the ICC World Cup 2023 will be played in Kolkata on November 16, Thursday. South Africa and Australia both qualified for the semi-finals with 14 points from nine matches. Both lost two games each.
South Africa and Australia faced each other in the league stage with the Proteas beating the Aussies by 134 runs in that match. South Africa has been the batting powerhouse of this tournament scoring more than 300 runs in the tournament multiple times. They scored 428/5 against Sri Lanka in Delhi which is the highest total of this World Cup so far.
Australia, on the other hand, started with back-to-back losses. However, since then they have been on a seven-match winning streak and have made some dominating performances. The five-time World Cup champions know what it takes to win big matches like the semi-final and the final. They did make it to the semi-finals of the 2019 World Cup as well.
South Africa’s luck in the semi-finals has not favored them yet. They have not made it to the World Cup finals so far in the history of their cricket. If they make it, this will be their first-ever World Cup final. South Africa faced Australia in the famous 1999 World Cup semi-final match where the Aussies qualified for the semi-final despite the match ending in a tie.
There has been a lot of talk about South Africa’s dominance with the bat with their batters scoring six centuries in this World Cup so far with Quinton de Kock scoring four by himself. Batting first they have posted big totals. However, batting second they have been found out. Losses to India and Netherlands and a narrow win against Pakistan have exposed their weakness. The Aussies surely would know about that heading into this game.
