South Africa and Australia go head to head in the second semi-final of the ICC World Cup 2023 in Kolkata. The two teams have been dominant in this World Cup so far. The SA vs AUS match starts at 2 pm at a venue where South Africa was bowled out for just 83 against India.
South Africa are heading into this game after being Afghanistan in their last game. They chased down 245 in Ahmedabad. Chasing is something they have not been comfortable doing in this World Cup, but the last win will give them confidence ahead of the big semi-final. The Proteas are looking to make it to their first-ever World Cup final and thus need to cross the hurdle.
Former World champions Australia knows what it takes to play the semi-finals and finals in ICC tournaments. They have won five World Cup titles and are gunning for their sixth. They are on a seven-match winning streak having beaten Bangladesh in their last game. This is Australia’s first game at Eden Gardens in this World Cup. The players will get a first taste of the conditions in the semi-final.
South Africa defeated Australia earlier in the campaign by 134 runs. That was one of the two losses for the Aussies in this campaign. South Africa lost to India and surprisingly to the Netherlands. Protean skipper Tem Bavuma who looked uncomfortable in the match against Afghanistan took part in the optional training session on Monday and looked comfortable. Bavuma had suffered a hamstring injury during South Africa’s league game against Afghanistan.
