Ravichandran Ashwin is the first Indian player who might retire from ODIs after the South Africa tour. Ashwin is a regular member of the Test side but in ODIs, he makes rare appearances. The 36-year-old is part of the ICC World Cup 2023. However, he played just 1 match and warmed the bench in every other game.

In the spin department, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra, Chahal, and Ravindra Jadeja are the front-runners for the team in ODIs. Hence, Ashwin is always overlooked for ODIs. Even in the ODI World Cup, he was not part of the squad but got a place as injured Axar Patel’s replacement.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is another pacer on this list. Even since India lost the semi-final to England in T20 World Cup 2022, Kumar was removed from the national side. Moreover, he also performed poorly in IPL 2023.

Selectors are not interested in playing Bhuvneshwar Kumar anymore as they want to nourish young talents. They have regularly opted for youngsters in the national team. If Kumar is not picked for the South Africa tour, he might think of retiring from ODIs.

3. Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan is another name who vanished from the national team since the start of 2023. Before 2023, the right-handed batter was a regular member of the ODI team. However, Shubman Gill replaced him as an opener and later cemented his place in all formats. Dhawan has already reached 38 years and it will be hard for him to return to ODIs. As a result, he might choose to retire from ODIs this year.

Manish Pandey has totally vanished from the national team but he is yet to retire from any format. Pandey last played for India in 2021, during the ODI series against Sri Lanka. However, after his poor show in the series, he was dropped from the ODI team.

The right-handed batsman has also witnessed some poor seasons in IPL. Hence, it is almost unlikely for Manish Pandey to make a comeback to the national team. Hence, he might soon announce his retirement.
