Ajinkya Rahane, the Test specialist for Team India for the last four to five years is likely to face the axe for the upcoming Test series against South Africa. India will be playing a two-match Test series against the Proteas on a full-fledged tour starting next month.

The Indian team is fresh from their ICC World Cup final loss against Australia on Sunday. A fresh Indian T20I squad led by Suryakumar Yadav will take on the Aussies in a three-match T20I series starting with the first T20I match in Vizag on Sunday.

After the T20I series, the focus is on the South Africa Test series which kickstarts the WTC 2023-35 cycle for the Men in Blue. Rohit Sharma has made it clear that he doesn’t mind not playing T20Is. Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar will soon be meeting Rohit Sharma to discuss the roadmap of his future in the Indian cricket team. He will turn nearly 40 by the time the next World Cup starts and thus there are talks of grooming a new captain.

Selection Committee Wants To Groom Younger Players: BCCI Source On Ajinkya Rahane’s Test Future

Meanwhile, Ajinkya Rahane’s Test career seems all but over as he is not likely to be considered for the upcoming Test series against South Africa, as per reports in Times of India. He was recalled into the Test side for the WTC 2023 final.

However, now with Shreyas Iyer back in good form and KL Rahul proving his worth as a specialist wicket-keeper batsman in the middle-order, Rahane’s chances look bleak. The selectors are also planning to give Shubman Gill an extended run at number three in Test matches. This also makes space for someone like Ishan Kishan to open the batting in Test matches and play with an aggressive intent.

“The selection committee is very clear that it wants to groom players who will play together  for a longer period of time. With Shreyas Iyer coming back into Test reckoning and Shubman Gill batting at No. 3, there is little scope for Rahane. KL Rahul too could be considered for the Test matches as he could be a backup wicketkeeping option,” the source said, as quoted by TOI.

Rahane so far has played 85 Test matches and scored 5077 runs at an average of 38.46 and a strike rate of nearly 50. He has scored 12 hundred and 26 fifties in the format.

Temba Bavuma

Despite leading South Africa to the semifinals of the recently concluded ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, their captain Temba Bavuma faced severe criticism.

Not many were expecting the Proteas to make it to the semifinals in the World Cup. However, the Temba Bavuma-led side exceeded all the expectations and qualified for the last four after finishing second on the league table. They won 7 of their nine games before a loss against eventual winners Australia in the semifinal ended their run.

The impressive run in the World Cup, however, did not stop the criticism from Temba Bavuma. His captaincy as well as his place in the team was constantly questioned as he struggled to lead his team from the front. The right-handed batter managed to score only 145 runs in 8 games with a top score of 35. He averaged 18 and a strike-rate of 73 in the World Cup.

Temba Bavuma hits back at critics:

With the World Cup done and dusted, Temba Bavuma has hit back at his critics. In an interview with The Daily Maverick, the under-fire South Africa captain said that he would have happily stepped down as the captain if even one player had asked him to do so.

“I have said it from the beginning that if any of the guys stood there and said, ‘Temba, you are not the man for the job as captain,’ then I would happily walk away. These are the bunch of guys who we have been together since 2020. We know each other through and through, and we know what we play for. I am not the guy who is on Twitter or Facebook,” said Temba Bavuma.

“I don’t know what the metric is to judge someone if they’re captaining well. We won the most games in the group stage out of any South African team. We beat teams that haven’t been beaten in a while in World Cups so what metrics are we going to use to judge whether a guy is using the job as the captain?” he added.

South Africa’s loss in the semi-finals left head coach Rob Walter devastated. He was asked in the post-match press conference about who is going to win the World Cup finals to which he nullified the question by saying that he doesn’t care. Walter also said that he would be hardly watching the finals.

He said, “To be honest, there’s about a 1% chance I’ll be watching. And to be even more brutally honest, I actually don’t care.” Iceland Cricket took a jibe at Rob Walter on ‘X’ as they replied to his statement saying that they will be watching every ball of the much-awaited World Cup final between the two mighty teams.

Watch- Iceland Cricket’s Cheeky Response To Rob Walter’s Statement

Iceland Cricket stated, “This is the difference between us and them. We will be watching every ball, hoping for a fantastic match between the two best teams in the tournament.” It seems Rob Walter lost all interest in the tournament after South Africa lost the semi-finals against Australia on Thursday.

Australian new-ball duo Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc decimated the Proteas batter in the powerplay allowing them to score only 18 runs. However, a gritty innings of 101 from David Miller took the South African scorecard to 212. In response, Australia managed to chase the target with three wickets and 16 balls in hand.

Australia will now lock horns with the unbeaten hosts India in the finals. The iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host the finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. While Australia will be looking to win their sixth World Cup title, India will hope to end the long drought of an ICC trophy.

On Thursday, Australia beat South Africa in the second semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. South Africa had a terrific tournament finishing second in the points table with just two defeats to their name in nine games. However, they succumbed to the mighty Aussies in the semi-final and bowed out of the tournament. The semi-final between South Africa and Australia marked the end of Quinton de Kock’s ODI career.

Quinton de Kock had already announced that he will be retiring after South Africa’s campaign ends in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. He had a terrific run in the tournament, scoring 594 runs in 10 innings at an average of 59.40 with four centuries to his name. Quinton has been lauded by former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting for having a stellar career in the ODIs. He failed to score runs in the semi-final departing at a meagre score of three.

“The way he has played in this World Cup, I’m sure every cricket fan and every South African cricket fan would love to see him go out and play in one more 50 over World Cup. What a tournament he has had to finish on four hundreds in the tournament I think it is important for all of us out there just not to remember Quinton de Kock by the way he played his last game today,” said Ponting

Ricky Ponting further adds how he saw Quinton de Kock being more animated in the match against Australia. He said, “He has been outstanding throughout this tournament. I actually saw him more animated today than I’ve seen him ever before as well as giving the players an address when they took their first wicket which really showed to me today how much it meant to him to be hopefully part of a successful South African team.”

Ponting concluded by giving his best wishes to Quinton de Kock and bidding him farewell for a terrific ODI career. Quinton de Kock represented South Africa in 155 ODIs scoring 6770 runs at an average of 45.74. He registered 21 centuries and 30 half-centuries in this format of the game.

“So he can bow out of One-day international cricket a very very proud man of what he’s done I’m sure his family will be proud of him but his overall record was outstanding and you could see how much it meant to him,” Ponting concluded.

Quinton de Kock will now be focusing on the T20 format of the game both internationally and franchise-based. He has made himself available for the 2023 edition of the Big Bash League where he represents Melbourne Renegades.

Veteran spinner Imran Tahir expressed his disappointment with Temba Bavuma’s captaincy decisions following South Africa‘s semi-final loss in the ICC World Cup 2023. Imran Tahir expressed his willingness to fight for the South African team, even at his current age.

The Proteas managed to set a 213-run target in the second semi-final at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday, November 16. The Temba Bavuma-led team couldn’t prevent the Pat Cummins-led team from securing a narrow three-wicket victory in the knockout match.

Are You Going As A Warrior? – Imran Tahir

Speaking after South Africa’s loss, Imran Tahir criticized the team’s mindset, especially Bavuma’s decision not to have a slip when the opposition team needed only 25 runs to win. Tahir emphasized the importance of strategic decisions in the crucial encounter.

“It is all about mindset. If you are going out on the field, are you going as a warrior? You are persisting with a bowler who’s bowling 90mph (Coetzee), but you didn’t keep a slip for him. Then, you concede a four from slips when they need 25 runs to win. As a captain, and even as senior players, you should know such things,” Tahir told Star Sports.

Won’t Be The First Heros To Reach The Final – Imran Tahir

The 44-year-old emphasized the significance of the semi-final match, stating that the South African team missed the opportunity to reach the final for the first time in World Cup history.

“This is a big game, not a normal, bilateral match. Youngsters don’t realize what more this bunch could’ve done. Sure, a South African team will eventually reach a final. Youngsters will come. We believed in this team, and they won’t be the first heroes to reach the final. If you keep squandering such chances… today, the ground was full. There are 54 million South Africans who were behind you. Personally, I’m very disappointed. Give me a South Africa kit right now, I’m ready to fight even at this age,” Tahir further stated.

South Africa is yet to reach the ODI World Cup final, as they suffered their fifth semi-final loss in tournament history. The last semi-final appearance for South Africa was in the 2015 edition, and they did not make it to the semi-finals in the previous ODI World Cup.

Australia defeated South Africa in the semi-finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and will now face India in the finals on Sunday, 19th November at the iconic Narendra Modi International Stadium, Ahmedabad. This was the third time the Aussies were able to get past the Proteas in the semi-final round of the ODI World Cup, previously doing so in 1999 and 2007.

Australian captain Pat Cummins said that he would draw on the experience of having played and won a World Cup final going into the ultimate battle with India. “A few of us have played such a game before and there are others who have played a World T20 final (in 2021). The 2015 World Cup was a career highlight, so to be out there in a final in India, can’t wait,” he told the official broadcasters.

Later, at the post-match press conference, left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc was asked about the point of difference in the final. “It will probably be about both pressure and skill,” said Starc who finished with the figures of 3/34 after he and Josh Hazelwood decimated the Proteas in the power-play. “Both teams know what is to play such games. We have met recently in the final of the World Test Championship. It will be a big occasion, a great spectacle and, as a changing room, we are looking forward.”

The one person who doesn’t really care about the finals is South Africa’s head coach Rob Walter. “To be honest, there is a 1% chance I would be watching. To be even more brutally honest, I don’t care (who wins). But it is great for the home team to win the World Cup and over the past eight weeks we have seen the kind of support there is for the India team. And they have been the best side in the competition,” said Rob Walter at the press conference.

South Africa Players Were Smiling After Their Defeat

It was surprising and heartwarming at the same time to see the South African team with huge smiles and big hugs after the defeat in the semi-finals unlike the players collapsing and sitting on their haunches after the heartbreaking defeat in the 2015 semi-finals. Australia was completely upbeat going into their eighth World Cup final.

“Our character came through. It was a dog fight,” the Proteas’ skipper Temba Bavuma told official broadcasters after commending Australia’s performance and accepting that they were outstanding for a large part of the game and thoroughly deserved victory. Temba Bavuma said that Quinton de Kock, whose One-Day International career came to an end with this match, would have wanted a different outcome to this match “but he’ll remember the fight we showed as a team. We’ve enjoyed playing with him, in South Africa he will go down as a legend of the game.”

To that South African coach Rob Walter added: “If you think about the cricket we played over the past eight weeks, it was memorable. And the more players have such experiences the more they get excited about their cricket. I think we surprised some people in this room and around the world. We have had world records, dominated teams and different people have put their hands up at different times. Guys are gutted now but they know they have left everything out there.”

Rob Walters revealed that Kagiso Rabada was not able to bowl because of a “bruised heel”. That is why he couldn’t be 100%. “But that also meant that Aiden (Markram) could be used and he was outstanding. I don’t think that (Rabada bowling only six overs) was a defining moment,” he added.

The way the pitch behaved at the start was very challenging according to Walters. South Africa could manage to score only 18 runs in the first 10 overs. “The first 12 overs, batting was a challenge. When the ball is coming at you so steep and there is lateral movement and there are two quality bowlers who are getting some assistance, your options are limited,” said Walter.

Mitchell Starc revealed his knowledge of the wicket spinning based on his experience on the training pitches here over the past few days. Even he was surprised when the wicket seamed up which made it tough to bat in the first 10 overs for the Proteas. “If you saw Joshy’s (Hazelwood) pitch map, it would be more like Test match bowling. We knew South Africa is pretty strong at the backend and wanted (David) Miller and (Heinrich) Klassen to be out there early and not at the end. Joshy built pressure with a lot of dot balls and that meant they could not play with freedom. Add to that the way we fielded. David Warner is 37 and look how he moved,” he said.

Temba Bavuma accepted that South Africa lost the game in the first 10 overs of both innings. The Proteas were not able to capitalize on the power-play overs when they were batting. They scored a meagre 18 runs in the first 10 overs of their innings whereas Australia had a flying start scoring 74 runs in the powerplay at the loss of two wickets while chasing 213.

SA vs AUS: Australia defeat South Africa by 3 wickets to enter the final of the World Cup

Coming to the game between South Africa and Australia, the Pat Cummins-led side emerged victorious by three wickets and will now play India in the final of the tournament. They were asked to field first and they bundled out the Proteas for 212. With the way they bowled in the start, it didn’t seem that South Africa would reach this far but David Miller (101) smashed a staggering century to make sure his team posts a fighting total on the board.

With the bat, Australia were off to a flying start. David Warner (29) and Travis Head (62) added 60 runs for the opening partnership. But after that, they lost wickets and were under pressure. Steve Smith (30) and Josh Inglis (28) chipped in with valuable knocks but lost wickets at crucial stage. In the end, Pat Cummins (14*) and Mitchell Starc (16*) batted to take the team home.

South Africa National Cricket Team vice-captain Aiden Markram tried very hard and gave it all with the ball in the second semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against Australia National Cricket Team at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, but in the end, it didn’t matter.

Aiden Markram wasn’t able to create any impact with the bat in the high-octane encounter against the Aussies. He scored just 10 runs off 20 balls, with 2 boundaries, before being dismissed by the premier left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc.

However, Aiden Markram contributed exceptionally with the ball. He got the first breakthrough for his side by dismissing David Warner which opened the floodgates. Overall, he finished with an amazing bowling figures of 8-1-23-1. He gave runs at an economy of 2.87.

The 29-year-old was trying very hard to break the partnership between the Australian lower-order batters – Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins – and he even created a chance in the 45th over. He bowled a tossed-up delivery outside off-stump and Pat Cummins went for a drive. The Australian skipper just managed to get a feather of an inside edge on it and Proteas wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock wasn’t able to hold onto the ball.

Aiden Markram was shattered after the dropped chance and he nearly cried, before controlling his tears and bowling the rest of the four deliveries of the over.

In the end, South Africa faced yet another heartbreak in the semi-final of a World Cup as the Aussies won the match by 3 wickets. Speaking after the match, Temba Bavuma lauded Aiden Markram and Keshav Maharaj for putting the Australian Team under pressure. Temba Bavuma said:

“They got 70-odd in the first 10 and that really allowed the rest of the guys to settle. Markram and Maharaj were fantastic and they really put them under pressure. We had chances, tough chances that we put down, it could’ve been a bit close had we held on to them.”

Temba Bavuma further spoke of Gerald Coetzee, who was the top wicket-taker for South Africa in the World Cup 2023, and Quinton de Kock, who has now retired from ODI cricket. Temba Bavuma said:

“As a young guy, he (Coetzee) really was the warrior for us, there wasn’t much happening for the seamers then but for him to come round the wicket and to take the wicket of Smith was incredible. He was cramping but he still wanted to keep bowling. Quinton would’ve probably wanted to end his career on a different note, despite the result I think he’ll remember his time. He’ll go down as one of the greatest in South African cricket.”

South Africa National Cricket Team pacer Gerald Coetzee cleaned up the Australia National Cricket Team wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis with an excellent yorker in the second semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday, November 16.

Josh Inglis scored 28 runs off 49 deliveries, with 3 fours, in the low-scoring thriller against South Africa, but his runs were extremely crucial and played a massive role in Australia’s victory in the game.

Josh Inglis was involved in two decent partnerships with Steve Smith and Mitchell Starc. He added 37 runs in 59 balls with Smith and 19 runs in 38 balls with Mitchell Starc which helped Australia gain some momentum in the match.

His innings was cut short in the 40th over, which was bowled by emerging pacer Gerald Coetzee. On the 5th ball of the over, the right-arm quick bowled a perfect yorker and Josh Inglis had no answers to that. The batter’s stumps were rattled and the dismissal brought some life back in the game for South Africa.

In the end, South Africa faced a 3-wicket loss, and speaking after the match skipper Temba Bavuma said that they showed a lot of resilience. He said:

“Cannot put it into words, first of all congratulations to Australia. Good luck to them in the final. They played really well today. Our character came through today. We showed a lot of resilience.”

Temba Bavuma further said that the poor start with the bat cost them the game. He further lauded David Miller for hitting an absolutely sensational ton on the semi-final stage. He elaborated:

“The way we started with the bat and the ball was the telling point, that’s where we lost the game. The conditions combined with the quality of their attack, they really put us under pressure. You’re always going to struggle to put up a competitive total when you’re 24/4.

“We were gaining some momentum when Miller and Klaasen were out there but unfortunately he (Klaasen) couldn’t carry on a bit longer. Miller’s innings was superb, really highlights the character of the entire team, it was extraordinary to do that in such a pressure situation and in a World Cup semi-final.”

South Africa vs Australia

The second semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 was played between Temba Bavuma-led South Africa National Cricket Team and Pat Cummins-led Australia National Cricket Team at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday, November 16.

South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first in the match. They made one change to their playing XI as Tabraiz Shamsi replaced Lungi Ngidi. The Aussies also made a couple of changes as Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc returned to the playing XI while Marcus Stoinis and Sean Abbott missed out.

The decision to bat first wasn’t a good one for the team as they faced a top-order collapse. Temba Bavuma, Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen, and Aiden Markram failed miserably to leave the Proteas in a spot of bother.

However, David Miller joined forces with Heinrich Klaasen to bring his team back into the match. They added 95 runs in 113 balls to put the opposition bowlers under pressure. The duo were playing good cricket, but the partnership was broken by part-timer Travis Head.

David Miller smashed a sensational century and steered his side to a decent total of 212 runs on the board. He scored 101 runs off 116 balls, with 8 fours and 5 sixes. On the other hand, Klaasen chipped in with 47 runs off 48 balls, with 4 fours and 2 sixes.

Chasing the target, openers David Warner and Travis Head provided their side with a terrific start. The duo played an attacking brand of cricket and pushed the Proteas on the backfoot. Travis Head smashed a brilliant 62 runs but other than him no batter hit a fifty.

After that, the Proteas bowling unit showed their class and brought back the momentum towards their side. They picked wickets at regular intervals and pushed the Aussies on the back foot.

In the end, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins stitched together a crucial 22-run partnership to steer their team to victory. The Aussies won the match by 3 wickets. Australia will next take on India National Cricket Team in the summit clash of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, November 19.

Glenn Maxwell didn’t have a great outing in the semi-final of the ICC World Cup 2023 against South Africa. The low-scoring thriller at the iconic Eden Gardens is keeping everyone on their toes as both teams are putting up a great fight.

After getting bundled out just for 212 runs, South Africa are making sure that they give their every possible effort to win the game. Their spinners have kept them in the hunt and have bowled staggering lines and lengths to put pressure on the opposition.

Tabriz Shamsi has chipped in as well and has picked two big wickets in Marnus Labuschagne (18) and Glenn Maxwell (1). Out of the two wickets that he has got so far, the scalp of the all-rounder was one to cherish as he produced a good delivery to send the batter packing.

Tabraiz Shamsi bowled a flatter delivery that fired in on the middle stump. Glenn Maxwell went deep into the crease and tried to heave it away. He was beaten in the air as the ball kept low and went on to hit the stumps. The leg stump was uprooted and the batter had to take the long walk back. After taking the wicket, the spin bowler went berserk and pulled off a wild celebration.

Glenn Maxwell managed just one run and with his wicket, Australia were left tottering at 137/5. South African bowlers even after his wicket bowled tight lines and lengths and kept putting Australia under pressure.

SA vs AUS: After Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith perishes

After the wicket of Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith held the fort and kept his side in the hunt. However, he perished at the wrong time and fell to Gerald Coetzee. The fast bowler came round the wicket and bowled a  full delivery that was slanting across outside off.

Steve Smith went across his stumps and swiped across the line. The ball went straight up in the air and Quinton de Kock took a brilliant catch to send the batter packing. He managed 30 runs and his wicket brought another twist in the tale. The game is going down the wire and it’ll be interesting to see who will face India in the final.

Rassie van der Dussen produced a stupendous effort on the field and jolted Australia with the blow of Mitchell Marsh. After setting a target of just 213 runs, South Africa didn’t have a great start with the ball as David Warner (29) and Travis Head (62) added 60 runs for the opening stand.

But after that, South Africa chipped in with two quick wickets. Of all the wickets, the scalp of Mitchell Marsh made many go gaga. The credit for that goes to none other than Rassie van der Dussen, who took a blinder to dismiss the batter.

Kagiso Rabada bowled a good length delivery that was outside off, Mitchell Marsh tried to drive it on the rise. He got a good connection and it didn’t seem that someone will catch it. However, Rassie van der Dussen flew to his right and grabbed a stunner in the air with both hands.

Here’s the video:

Mitchell Marsh bagged a six-ball duck and with his wicket, Australia came under pressure. After his wicket, South Africa were quite pumped up and their intensity raised up automatically after that. They put pressure on the opposition and are keeping things tight.

SA vs AUS: After Rassie van der Dussen’s effort, South Africa remove Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne and Glenn Maxwell

The introduction of spin has changed the fortunes of South Africa in the game. Aiden Markam first removed David Warner and then Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi did the further damage. The ball is turning sharply and Australians are finding it hard to score.

Keshav Maharaj castled the stumps of Travis Head with peach. After that Tabraiz Shamsi chipped in as well and sent the dangerous Marnus Labuschagne (18) Glenn Maxwell (1) packing as well.

South Africa National Cricket Team left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj rattled the stumps of the Australia National Cricket Team opening batsman Travis Head in the second semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday, November 16.

Head played his natural attacking brand of cricket during the run-chase 213 against the Proteas. He looked aggressive from the ball one and didn’t let the bowlers settle down. He punished the loose balls very well and added an amazing half-century partnership with David Warner.

Travis Head was finally cleaned up by Keshav Maharaj in the 15th over of the innings. On the first ball itself, Maharaj managed to send the explosive opening batsman packing. Head scored 62 runs off 48 balls, with 9 fours and 2 sixes.

On the first ball of the 15th over, Keshav Maharaj bowled a flighted delivery outside off and it drew Travis Head into the drive. The ball dipped and spun to beat the edge and rattle the stumps.

Earlier, South Africa won the toss and chose to bat first in the match. The decision proved to be a horrible one as the top 4 batters of the team failed to perform well.

It looked like the Proteas would get bundled out for a low score, but David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen brought South Africa back into the game. Miller was the top performer for South Africa as he stitched together an outstanding 95 runs in 113 balls with Heinrich Klaasen and smashed an outstanding 101 runs off 116 balls, with 8 fours and 5 sixes, to help his team post 212 on the board.

During the mid-innings break, David Miller said that he was glad to get a century on such a big stage. He elaborated:

“Really big (importance of this knock.) Glad to get the hundred, but we want to win at the end of the day. Helped the team to score a decent score with those partnerships. Expected these conditions at the start of the match, but we were on the back foot after four down in the powerplay.

“Managed to put up a couple of partnerships (with Klaasen and Coetzee), think we fought hard. It’s about watching every ball and staying in the moment, trusting your preparation. It’s one ball at a time. We need to put them under pressure in the power play by taking wickets. It’s about using the conditions, bowling in the right areas.”

David Miller is keeping South Africa’s hope alive in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023. The semi-final 2 of the tournament is taking place between Proteas and Australia at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

South Africa’s decision to bat first didn’t prove to be right as Australian bowlers were all over them with the new ball. The Proteas were left clattering at 24/4 and it didn’t seem that they would go past even 100 runs. But David Miller made sure that he stepped up at the crucial stage for his team.

David Miller has played magnificently well under pressure and has made sure that his team sets at least a fighting total on the board. The southpaw emerged as a lone warrior for his team and played one of the best innings by a South African batter in the knockout stages of ICC events.

Despite all the pressure, he stood tall for his side and played a solid innings. Amidst all the seriousness and intensity, he was involved in a hilarious moment as well. The batter collided with Gerald Coetzee as they were running between the wickets.

David Miller slammed a magnificent century under pressure in the big game and became the first South Africa batter to score a ton in ICC knockouts. He brought up his ton in just 115 balls and made everyone stand and applaud him for his heroics.

David Miller ended with the knock of 101 runs off 116 balls. He batted with a strike rate of around 90 and also smashed 8 fours and 5 sixes in his innings. His rollicking effort powered South Africa to a total of 212 runs on the board.

SA vs AUS: Glad to get the hundred – David Miller after his century against Australia

David Miller talked about his innings and said that it’s very big for him in the context of the game. He talked about the conditions and said that they would try to put pressure on the opposition. He explained:

“Really big (importance of this knock.) Glad to get the hundred, but we want to win at the end of the day. Helped the team to score a decent score with those partnerships. Expected these conditions at the start of the match, but we were on the back foot after four down in the powerplay.

Australia National Cricket Team star player Travis Head castled the South Africa National Cricket Team explosive batsman Heinrich Klaasen in the second semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday, November 16.

Heinrich Klaasen has been one of the top performers for the Proteas in the ongoing edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup. He was forced to walk in to bat early in the second semi-final after the top 4 batters of the side failed miserably.

Temba Bavuma, Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen, and Aiden Markram all failed to deliver on the big stage of the semi-final and were back in the hut without performing well.

It looked like the Proteas would get bundled out for a low score, but Heinrich Klaasen stitched together an outstanding 95 runs in 113 balls with David Miller to steer his side to recovery. The duo batted magnificently well and pushed the Aussies on the back foot for a while.

The partnership between the two was finally broken by Travis Head, the part-time spinner, in the 31st over. Klaasen was unable to complete his fifty and he was dismissed after scoring 47 runs off 48 balls, with 4 fours and 2 sixes.

On the fourth ball of the 31st over, Travis Head bowled a tossed-up delivery on stumps and the Proteas batter was late to get forward. The ball spun past his outside edge and rattled the stumps to leave the batter in shock.

India defeated the Kiwis to knock them out of the tournament. In the process, the Men in Blue have booked a berth in the finals. South Africa and Australia are currently playing the second semi-final in Kolkata. The winner of this game will be the second team to reach the finals.

Meanwhile, the show has drawn accolades for its analysis and in-depth discussion regarding the matters of the World Cup. The panel has extensively discussed Pakistan’s disappointing performance in this tournament. They have also discussed about the performance of other teams with a particular interest in India.

Rohit Sharma spoke about India’s performance in the semi-final after beating the Kiwis and getting over their nemesis in ICC tournaments.

“We knew there’d be pressure on us. We were calm even though we were a bit sloppy on the field. These things are bound to happen, glad that we could get the job done. When the scoring rate is above 9, you gotta take chances. They gave us chances, we didn’t take them., Mitchell and Williamson batted brilliantly.

“We had to stay calm. The crowd went silent, that’s the nature of the game. We knew we had to pull something from our sleeves. We tried everything and Shami was brilliant. The top five-six batters, they have made it count. Very pleased with what Iyer has done in this tournament. Gill, the way he batted upfront was brilliant, unfortunately he had to return back. Kohli, as usual, was brilliant, played his trademark innings and got to his landmark. All in all, the batting was superb.

“The way our bowlers bowled upfront, they picked wickets. Today, I wouldn’t say there was no pressure. Guys were doing the job. We wanted to do what we’ve been doing in the first nine games. Things came off really nice” said  Rohit after India’s win over NZ.

Heinrich Klaasen led the rescue charge for his side in the ongoing semi-final 2 of the ICC World Cup 2023 against Australia. The match between the two teams is taking place at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

South Africa opted to bat first and it was a horrendous outing for them as they lost wickets in clusters and were left tottering at 24/4. It was then when Heinrich Klaasen along with David Miller joined hands together and bailed their team out of trouble in Kolkata.

Heinrich Klaasen played some great shots. He showed great resilience and also punished the bad balls. He gave South African fans something to cheer about and made sure that his side got something on the board in the important semi-final match of the tournament.

During his innings, Heinrich Klaasen faced a nasty blow as well. It happened during the second ball of the 29th over when the keeper-batter drove the tossed-up delivery towards mid-off and ran for a quick single.

As he was about to reach the crease, Heinrich Klaasen bumped into Adam Zampa’s shoulder and the helmet pinged the face. He called out for the physios and after some treatment, he continued batting. Here’s the video of his collision:

South Africa is currently taking on Australia in the second semi-final of the ICC World Cup 2023 at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday, November 16. However, the match in the knockout stage could be affected by rain, according to the weather forecast.

The toss took place at the scheduled time despite the rain prediction for the game. South African skipper Temba Bavuma won the toss and chose to bat first in the semi-final clash. However, Bavuma’s decision backfired, as the team lost four wickets in quick succession.

Australian bowlers exploited the overhead conditions and troubled South African batters with tight bowling. Mitchell Starc provided an early breakthrough by dismissing Bavuma. Josh Hazlewood picked up the wicket of in-form batter Quinton de Kock for three runs.

Revealed – Who Will Qualify For World Cup Final?

Accuweather predicts a seven percent chance of rain throughout the day, with cloudy conditions and potential benefits for seamers. Although rain is expected to stay away for most of the day, there is a prediction of a 75% chance of rainfall starting at 7 PM in Kolkata.

In case the match doesn’t happen on Thursday, the match will go to reserve day on Friday. However, the Met Department predicts high rain chances on Friday. If the match gets washed out, South Africa will advance to the finals, having finished higher in the table.

Both teams secured 14 points with seven wins in nine league games to qualify for the semi-finals. Despite both teams having the same points, South Africa finished second due to a higher net run rate (+1.261), while Australia secured the third position with an NRR of +0.841.

South Africa vs Australia Playing XI

Temba Bavuma chose to include two frontline spinners for the semi-final clash, bringing in Tabraiz Shamsi to support Keshav Maharaj. Meanwhile, Australia opted for Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc, replacing Marcus Stoinis and Sean Abbott in their playing XI.

South Africa: Quinton de Kock(w), Temba Bavuma(c), Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Gerald Coetzee, Kagiso Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi

Australia: Travis Head, David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Steven Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Glenn Maxwell, Josh Inglis(w), Pat Cummins(c), Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood

The South Africa tour will be the first away campaign for Team India after the ICC World Cup 2023. During the away tour, India will face South Africa in three T20Is, three ODIs, and two Tests. Last time, India lost all three ODI matches to South Africa during the away tour, losing the series 3-0.

This time, the men-in-blue will aim to give a tough challenge to South Africa. There are a few Indian players who are in the last stage of their ODI careers. We take a look at 5 Indian players who can retire from ODIs after the South Africa tour.

IND vs SA: 5 Indian Players Who Can Retire From ODIs After South Africa Tour

5. Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin South Africa
Ravichandran Ashwin (Image Credit: Twitter)

Ravichandran Ashwin is the first Indian player who might retire from ODIs after the South Africa tour. Ashwin is a regular member of the Test side but in ODIs, he makes rare appearances. The 36-year-old is part of the ICC World Cup 2023. However, he played just 1 match and warmed the bench in every other game.

In the spin department, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra, Chahal, and Ravindra Jadeja are the front-runners for the team in ODIs. Hence, Ashwin is always overlooked for ODIs. Even in the ODI World Cup, he was not part of the squad but got a place as injured Axar Patel’s replacement.

4. Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is another pacer on this list. Even since India lost the semi-final to England in T20 World Cup 2022, Kumar was removed from the national side. Moreover, he also performed poorly in IPL 2023.

Selectors are not interested in playing Bhuvneshwar Kumar anymore as they want to nourish young talents. They have regularly opted for youngsters in the national team. If Kumar is not picked for the South Africa tour, he might think of retiring from ODIs.

3. Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan, Indian Player

Shikhar Dhawan is another name who vanished from the national team since the start of 2023. Before 2023, the right-handed batter was a regular member of the ODI team. However, Shubman Gill replaced him as an opener and later cemented his place in all formats. Dhawan has already reached 38 years and it will be hard for him to return to ODIs. As a result, he might choose to retire from ODIs this year.

2. Jaydev Unadkat

Jaydev Unadkat is a big name in domestic cricket. Playing for Saurashtra, he has been a consistent performer in the domestic circuit. However, his international career is not up to the mark. He played some ODIs and Tests in recent times but could not come up with a brilliant show. After ICC World Cup 2023, Unadkat is highly likely to be neglected by selectors for future campaigns.

1. Manish Pandey

Manish Pandey has totally vanished from the national team but he is yet to retire from any format. Pandey last played for India in 2021, during the ODI series against Sri Lanka. However, after his poor show in the series, he was dropped from the ODI team.

The right-handed batsman has also witnessed some poor seasons in IPL. Hence, it is almost unlikely for Manish Pandey to make a comeback to the national team. Hence, he might soon announce his retirement.

Pat Cummins catch

Australia National Cricket Team captain Pat Cummins pulled off a spectacular catch in the second semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 to remove the in-form South Africa National Cricket Team opening batsman Quinton de Kock.

The high-voltage match between the world-class teams is currently underway at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday, November 16. The winner of the ongoing will book a date with the India National Cricket Team in the final of the marquee tournament.

South Africa won the toss and chose to bat first in the match. The decision proved to be a horrible one for the side as both the Proteas openers – Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock – were cleaned up for low scores.

Temba Bavuma was dismissed for a duck in the first over itself while De Kock was removed by Josh Hazlewood in the 6th over. On the 4th ball of the 6th over, De Kock tried to launch a length delivery straight down the ground, but he didn’t get a good connection.

The ball went high up in the air and Pat Cummins backpedaled from the mid-on and completed a fantastic catch to leave the Proteas tottering at 8/2. Also, the in-form opener Quinton de Kock was back in the hut after contributing just 3 runs off 14 balls.

This was the 8th time, Josh Hazlewood dismissed De Kock in the ODI cricket. He is also the bowler to dismiss the Proteas opener for the most times in the history of 50-over cricket.

Most times dismissing Quinton de Kock in ODIs:

8 – Josh Hazlewood

5 – Trent Boult

4 – Lasith Malinga

4 – Mitchell Starc

4 – Glenn Maxwell

Speaking at the toss, Australia National Cricket Team captain Pat Cummins said that they also wanted to bat first, but was hopeful of getting swing early on in the innings. Pat Cummins said:

“We would have batted first as well. But it is overcast and hopefully, there’s some swing early on. They play pretty similar style, unfortunately they have won a last few, we are due.

“We have been in these positions before. We have a lot of experience. We were not up to our best in those couple of games. But guys have been positive in the last seven games. Two changes for us. Stoinis and Abbott are out. Maxwell and Starc are in.”

Temba Bavuma

Fans on X reacted after South African skipper Temba Bavuma bagged a four-ball duck against Australia. The second semi-final of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 is taking place at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first. It was a horrendous start from them as they lost skipper Temba Bavuma on the fourth ball that he faced in the game. The skipper was outshined by the brilliance of Australian pacer Mitchell Starc.

Mitchell Starc bowled a delivery that was on a length outside off. Temba Bavuma poked at it and the ball caught the outside edge and was pouched safely by keeper Josh Inglis. He perished for a four-ball duck.

Temba Bavuma continued his poor run in the tournament and South Africa was jolted in the first over itself. The Proteas skipper has scored just 145 runs at an average of just 18.1 in the 8 innings he has played in the tournament so far. The right-hander has the highest score of just 35 in the tournament.

Temba Bavuma is not 100% as he has been battling a hamstring issue. The skipper at the toss mentioned that he isn’t 100% fit. He stated:“I’m not 100 per cent fit, but it’s just going to have to be good enough.”

It’s fair to say that his decision to play robbed Reeza Hendricks of the chance in the game. The opening batter has been in decent nick in the tournament and played well in the two opportunities he was offered. He slammed a magnificent fifty in one game but unfortunately had to sit out.

India has never defeated South Africa in a Test series on the latter’s home. This time, the Rohit Sharma & Co. will aim for the same. However, they will face a challenge against Proteas, who excel at their home turf. There are some Indian players who might retire from Tests after the South Africa tour. Here we talk about five of them.

IND vs SA: 5 Indian Players Who Can Retire From Tests After South Africa Tour

5. Wriddhiman Saha

Wriddhiman Saha, ICC World Test Championship final

Wriddhiman Saha’s career is over. The wicketkeeper-batsman has reached 39 years of age. With wicketkeepers like Rishabh Pant and KS Bharat at the forefront, there is no chance that Team India will go back for Wriddhiman Saha’s services.

The right-handed batsman last played a Test match against New Zealand in December 2021. Hence, he might put an end to his Test career after South Africa series.

4. Ishant Sharma

Ishant Sharma, Indian Bowler

Ishant Sharma has lived his career and finished as one of the best Test pacers for India. The right-arm pacer played more than 100 Tests for India. However, he has been overlooked in Tests for quite a few years now.

The 35-year-old last played a Test match against New Zealand in November 2021. Due to his series of poor shows, he was dropped from the side. Pacers like Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, and Jasprit Bumrah have done a marvellous job in Tests in the past. Therefore, Sharma has no chance to make a comeback to the Test side.

3. Umesh Yadav

Umesh Yadav

Umesh Yadav was in and out of the Test team for the last few years. However, the right-arm pacer did play for India in the ICC World Test Championship final 2023, where India lost to Australia. Umesh Yadav has been overlooked after the WTC final.

Hence, it is clear that selectors want to go ahead with fresh talent in the pace department. New pacers like Mukesh Kumar and Umran Malik have already barged into the Test team. Therefore, if not picked for the South Africa tour, Umesh Yadav can pull down the curtains on his Test career.

Jaydev Unadkat made history after he made his comeback to the Test side after a gap of 10 years. With consistent performance in domestic cricket, the left-arm seamer was picked for many Test matches during the last year.

However, it is quite evident that he has failed to replicate his domestic performance in international cricket. Hence, he might retire from the Tests after the South Africa tour.

Jayant Yadav has become a forgotten name in the Indian Test team, although he played his last Test match in March 2022. Yadav is an off-spinner who has played a limited number of Tests for India. However, he has been dropped in every Test match since March last year.

In the spin department, players like Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja have sealed their places in the Test squad. Hence, Yadav might not be able to return to Test cricket. Hence, he can retire from Tests this year.

Displaying exemplary commitment and determination, South Africa captain Temba Bavuma has decided to play the semifinal against Australia despite carrying an injury. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM (IST) on Thursday (November 16) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Temba Bavuma was doubtful for the match after picking up a hamstring injury during South Africa’s last league game against Afghanistan. The opening batsman had to leave the field after only nine balls of the first innings and returned four overs later. However, he looked uncomfortable throughout and fielded mostly at mid-off. After the game, Cricket South Africa confirmed that the captain had sustained a right hamstring strain.

Speaking at the toss, the Proteas skipper confirmed that he is still not fully fit but has decided to play the huge match.

“We will bat first. “I’m not 100 percent fit, but it’s just going to have to be good enough,” he said before adding:

“We have come against a team like Australia in the semi-final. We did get a message from them (South Africa’s rugby winning team) this morning, means a lot to me and the team, there’s a game to focus on,” he added.

Temba Bavuma also confirmed that the Proteas have made one change for the semifinal. They have dropped fast-bowler Lungi Ngidi to make room for left-arm spinner Tabraiz Shamsi.

Temba Bavuma eyes good show:

Temba Bavuma will be looking to come up with a good display with the bat. While he has led the team to the semifinal, he has not really managed to impress with the bat so far. The right-handed batsman averages only 20 with the bat in the ongoing competition. In 7 matches so far, he has scored a modest 145 runs with a top score of 35.

In ODI World Cups, South Africa and Australia have faced each other 6 times, winning 3 games each. One game ended in a tie. South Africa dominates Australia on Indian soil, crushing them in all 4 ODI games in India.

For Australia, they have a powerful batting order with in-form batters like David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Marnus Labuschagne, and Glenn Maxwell. However, their weakness lies in the spin department as they have only one spinner Adam Zampa in the squad.

South Africa has been a powerful team in both batting and bowling departments. Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram, Rassie van der Dussen own fabulous form. Their lethal pace department is led by Kagiso Rababa, Marco Jansen, and Lungi Ngidi. However, South Africa’s weakness lies in its inability to chase totals.

South Africa and Australia go head to head in the second semi-final of the ICC World Cup 2023 in Kolkata. The two teams have been dominant in this World Cup so far. The SA vs AUS match starts at 2 pm at a venue where South Africa was bowled out for just 83 against India.

South Africa are heading into this game after being Afghanistan in their last game. They chased down 245 in Ahmedabad. Chasing is something they have not been comfortable doing in this World Cup, but the last win will give them confidence ahead of the big semi-final. The Proteas are looking to make it to their first-ever World Cup final and thus need to cross the hurdle.

Former World champions Australia knows what it takes to play the semi-finals and finals in ICC tournaments. They have won five World Cup titles and are gunning for their sixth. They are on a seven-match winning streak having beaten Bangladesh in their last game. This is Australia’s first game at Eden Gardens in this World Cup. The players will get a first taste of the conditions in the semi-final.

South Africa defeated Australia earlier in the campaign by 134 runs. That was one of the two losses for the Aussies in this campaign. South Africa lost to India and surprisingly to the Netherlands. Protean skipper Tem Bavuma who looked uncomfortable in the match against Afghanistan took part in the optional training session on Monday and looked comfortable. Bavuma had suffered a hamstring injury during South Africa’s league game against Afghanistan.

Australia Playing 11 vs South Africa – ICC World Cup 2023, Semi-Final 2

The batter Australia plays South Africa in the second semi-final in Kolkata on November 16, Thursday. This is Australia’s first match at this venue and it is the big semifinal of the ICC World Cup 2023. The match begins at 2 pm IST.

Australia entered the semi-finals finishing third on the points table. They won seven games and lost two ending with 14 points on the table. One of the losses came against South Africa who have been rampant in this World Cup when batting first.

Australia after the early losses recollected as a side and has been playing some consistent cricket. There are many players part of this World Cup squad who played the last World Cup and hence there is an evenness in the side.

Australia and South Africa have played 109 ODI matches with the Aussies winning 50 and the Proteas 54 games. Both have won three matches each out of the seen matches in World Cups. One match was tied which was the famous 1999 World Cup semi-final.

Heading into this World Cup, the two teams played a T2I and ODI series. Australia whitewashed the Proteas in the T20I series but lost the ODI series 3-2. The series was closely contested and another similar contest is on the cards.

Knowing South Africa’s problems while chasing, it is very evident that the Aussies will ask the Proteas to chase. Australia’s win over Afghanistan from an impossible situation will bode well for the side. It also highlighted the team’s batting depth.

Australia rested Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc in the match against Bangladesh. Both should be back in the XI in place of possibly Marcus Stoinis and Sean Abbott. The rest of the squad might remain the same.

The SA vs AUS second World Cup semi-final will be played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 16. India and New Zealand played the first semi-final in Mumbai on Wednesday.

South Africa and Australia finished as the second and third teams respectively on the points table. Both teams finished with seven wins and two losses with 14 points in total. The Proteas defeated the Aussies by 134 runs.

South Africa perhaps have been the most dominating side with the bat in this tournament. They scored 428/5 against Sri Lanka in Delhi which is the highest total of this World Cup so far. They have posted over 300 multiple times in this tournament. However, chasing has been their major problem throughout this tournament. They are back at a venue where they lost a game while chasing to against India.

Australia, on the other hand, started their campaign with back-to-back losses against India and South Africa. Now they are on a seven-match winning streak and face South Africa in a rematch of the 1999 World Cup semi-final. The Aussies seem to be peaking at the right time with their players performing and remaining fit for the business end of the tournament.

South African skipper Temba Bavuma suffered a hamstring injury against Afghanistan but participated in the optional training session on Monday. He has not done much with the bat but has used his bowlers masterfully on the field. Gerald Coetzee and Marco Jansen have been a revelation for them in this tournament. Their batters have scored seven centuries in total with Quinton de Kock alone scoring four.

The venue will definitely play a role. South Africa having already played at this venue before will have an edge in the contest. Australia knowing South Africa’s struggled in chases will want them to bat second.

The SA vs AUS second semi-final of the ICC World Cup 2023 will be played in Kolkata on November 16, Thursday. South Africa and Australia both qualified for the semi-finals with 14 points from nine matches. Both lost two games each.

South Africa and Australia faced each other in the league stage with the Proteas beating the Aussies by 134 runs in that match. South Africa has been the batting powerhouse of this tournament scoring more than 300 runs in the tournament multiple times. They scored 428/5 against Sri Lanka in Delhi which is the highest total of this World Cup so far.

Australia, on the other hand, started with back-to-back losses. However, since then they have been on a seven-match winning streak and have made some dominating performances. The five-time World Cup champions know what it takes to win big matches like the semi-final and the final. They did make it to the semi-finals of the 2019 World Cup as well.

South Africa’s luck in the semi-finals has not favored them yet. They have not made it to the World Cup finals so far in the history of their cricket. If they make it, this will be their first-ever World Cup final. South Africa faced Australia in the famous 1999 World Cup semi-final match where the Aussies qualified for the semi-final despite the match ending in a tie.

There has been a lot of talk about South Africa’s dominance with the bat with their batters scoring six centuries in this World Cup so far with Quinton de Kock scoring four by himself. Batting first they have posted big totals. However, batting second they have been found out. Losses to India and Netherlands and a narrow win against Pakistan have exposed their weakness. The Aussies surely would know about that heading into this game.

South Africa defeated Australia previously in the tournament. The team has been on a dominant run in this World Cup finishing second on the points table with seven wins and two losses. They have piled up big scores batting first but chasing has been a problem for the side. They lost the previous game they played in Kolkata while chasing against India.

Australia, on the other hand, have been consistent after their initial two losses. They won seven matches on the trot beating Bangladesh in their final league game. David Warner, Mitchell Starc, and Azam Zampa have been the key performers for the Aussies in this World Cup so far.

Talking about head-to-head, both teams have played 109 ODIs with Australia winning 50 games and South Africa 55. In seven World Cup games, both teams have won three games each while one ended in a tie.

Eden Gardens as a venue has been a good batting wicket with the spinners getting more assistance than the pacers. Given that winter is starting to set in, it gets dark early in the eastern part of India and thus the dew sets in pretty early. However, the pacers can look to maximize the first 10 overs when the ball is still new and hard.

SA vs AUS Weather Report Live Today And Pitch Report Of Eden Gardens, Kolkata, ICC World Cup 2023, Semi-Final 2

Eden Gardens has hosted four games so far with the SA vs AUS semi-final being the fifth game. The venue has seen good enough scores being set batting first. This wicket is not a typical 350 wicket. Teams have won at this venue by big margins which proves that batting second is not an option in this wicket.

Talking about the weather conditions, the temperature in the afternoon will be around 26 degrees with clouds dwindling in between sunshine. The humidity will be around 74 percent in the afternoon. As the evening approaches, the temperature will be around 23 degrees with a very good cloud cover expected. There is a five percent chance of rain in the evening as per Accuweather.

South Africa and Australia face off in the SA vs AUS ICC World Cup 2023 semi-final on Thursday, October 16. India played the Kiwis in the first semi-final. It’s a day-night game with the match starting at 2 pm IST.

South Africa have already defeated Australia previously in the tournament and have also played a game before at this venue. Meanwhile, this is Australia’s very first game in Kolkata, and that too a semi-final.

The city of Kolkata which missed out on hosting World Cup games in the 2011 edition due to renovation work now gets its chance to host a historic semi-final. The venue should be buzzing with fans and the stadium should be packed.

Both teams are high on confidence heading into this game and are well poised to face each other in this knockout clash There is no looking back for one of the two teams after this game. While Australia knows what it takes to play a semi-final, South Africa would like to get rid of their semi-final curse. The Aussies last played in the World Cup semis in 019 while the Proteas in 2015.

South Africa and Australia both finished on 14 points after nine games losing two games each. The two teams have different strengths and weaknesses which is what makes this semi-final an intriguing one. Both teams face off in a semi-final clash for the first time since the famous 1999 semi-final where the Proteas lost out despite the game ending in a tie.

South Africa

SA skipper Temba Bavuma who struggled with a hamstring injury looked good during his training session on Monday. Apart from him, the rest of the players are reportedly fit. Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markramm, Rassie Van der Dussen, and Heinrich Klaasen have done the job with the bat.

With the ball, Keshav Maharaj and Gerald Coetzee have accounted for 32 wickets in the tournament so far. Rabada has had a below-par tournament with 12 wickets. The Proteas lost both their games chasing which has been their Achilles Heel in the tournament so far. They might well find themselves chasing a stiff target once again in the semi-final.

South Africa Squad

Temba Bavuma (c), Gerald Coetzee, Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Marco Jansen, Heinrich Klaasen, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Lungi Ngidi, Andile Phehlukwayo, Kagiso Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi, Rassie van der Dussen, Lizaad Williams

Australia

Australia have been a consistent side at playing semi-finals and finals in 50-over World Cup tournaments. They have won five World Cup titles and are looking to bag their sixth. They can target South Africa’s weakness which is chasing in the big semi-final.

After Glenn Maxwell’s superhuman knock against Afghanistan where he almost single-handedly won the game, Australia’s batting depth was well and truly highlighted. The top three of David Warner, Travis Head, and Mitchell Marsh have been among the runs as well. With the ball, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins have taken 10 wickets each. However, Adam Zampa has been the real deal for the Aussies taking 22 wickets in just nine games at an average of 18.91. He will be the biggest threat for the Protean batters.

Australia Squad

Pat Cummins (c), Steve Smith, Alex Carey, Josh Inglis, Sean Abbott, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, Mitch Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, David Warner, Adam Zampa, Mitchell Starc

South Africa takes on Australia in the second semi-final in Kolkata on November 16. They were the first team to make the semi-finals of the ICC World Cup 2023. Along with them, India, New Zealand, and Australia are the other three teams to make the semis.

The Proteas are set to play the semi-final at a venue where they were bowled out for just 83 against India. They lost two games but were dominant in the seven games that they won in the league stage along with the game against the Aussies.

South Africa qualified for the semis with seven wins and two losses. Both the loss came while chasing exposing the chink in their armor as far as strengths and weaknesses are concerned. The Proteas have been the dominant team batting first but have failed to cope with the pressure of chasing. Against the Netherlands they failed to chase 246 while chasing 327 against India, they were bowled out for 83. Against Pakistan, they managed a narrow victory by one wicket.

It is almost given that Australia will ask South Africa to chase if they win the toss. In a high-pressure situation with a sight on their first-ever World Cup final, it will be interesting to see how the Proteas cop with the pressure.

As far as team news is concerned, Temba Bavuma who suffered a hamstring injury in the match against Afghanistan was seen practicing on Monday without any discomfort. The rest of the players are fit and South Africa is expected to play the same side that played Afghanistan. The only change might be Tabraiz Shami coming in for Andile Phelukwayo who played the last game. Any other change does not seem viable.

Shoaib Akhtar On Rohit Sharma

Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar congratulated the Indian team after they made it to the final of the ICC World Cup 2023. The Men in Blue defeated the Kiwis by 70 runs to make it to the final for the first time in 12 years.

India scored 398/4 on the back of centuries from Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer to take India to a mammoth total. Mohammed Shami then took 7/57 to help India win the match by 70 runs as the Kiwis scored 327.

The Men in Blue now await the second finalists which will be decided after the South Africa vs Australia match in Kolkata. Meanwhile, Akhtar taking to his YouTube channel has praised the Indian cricket team for making it to the semi-final. He said that the teams deserved to be in the final given how they have played so far in the tournament. After their win against the Kiwis, India is now unbeaten in 10 games in this World Cup so far.

“India thoroughly deserves to be in the final, if you look at their batting, bowling, fielding, and even their bench strength, if this team doesn’t deserve to reach the final then which team does?” Shoaib Akhtar said on his YouTube channel.

India Brutally Hammered New Zealand: Shoaib Akhtar

He further said that the Indian batters hammered the Kiwi’s bowlers with a special mention to Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Shreyas Iyer.

“India again brutally hammered New Zealand, all credit goes to Rohit Sharma as a captain. He hammers bowlers in the opening overs. If Gill stayed on the pitch he could have completed his ton. Shreyas Iyer is an amazing talent he is a guy who takes away a lot of pressure from the senior players. India deserves to be in the final” Shoaib said further.

He concluded by picking Australia as the second finalists as they backed the Men in Yellow to beat the Proteas in the second semi-final in Kolkata.

“I feel Australia will reach the final, South Africa has only one chance to bat first and put up a total of 350 runs,” Akhtar concluded.
