Pakistan National Cricket Team players have repeatedly advised their skipper Babar Azam not to quit the captaincy after the poor campaign in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Babar Azam’s position as the captain has come under intense scrutiny following the poor performance of the Pakistan National Cricket Team in the Asia Cup 2023 and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

The Men In Green were expected to dominate in both competitions considering their strong team and the familiar sub-continent conditions. However, they performed poorly and finished at the 4th and last position on the Asia Cup 2023 Super Four stage points table and in the 5th position in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 points table, with just 4 wins.

In their last World Cup 2023 group stage game, the Men In Green needed to chase down the target of 338 runs against England in 6.4 overs to overtake the Net Run Rate of New Zealand and seal a semi-final spot. However, they only managed to score 30/2 after 6.4 overs, to get knocked out of the competition.

Babar Azam has already spoken to his teammates, and the majority of them advised him not to step down himself – PCB Source

Meanwhile, a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) source has revealed that Babar Azam has received the support of his teammates amid the criticism of his poor captaincy and he is being backed to continue as a skipper.

Babar has already spoken to his teammates, and the majority of them advised him not to step down himself. He will come out with a clear line of action once he returns home with the team after failing to make the semi-finals of the World Cup in India. But, he will not step down himself,” a PCB source told PTI.

“He will most probably leave the decision of whether he should remain captain or not up to the Pakistan Cricket Board headed by Zaka Ashraf,” a well-informed source close to the skipper said.

Babar Azam, who shares a great bond with his teammates like Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Shadab Khan, has left the decision of his captaincy on the PCB and the team management.

Also, the head of the PCB management committee Zaka Ashraf has already said that they will reach the final decision only after consulting the former Pakistan cricketers.
