Pakistan had a forgettable outing in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as they could manage only four wins out of nine matches in the tournament. The Men In Green had a nice start with two wins back-to-back but then got derailed in their ambitions midway after suffering a four-match losing streak. Former India Cricketer Mohammad Kaif has opined that this Pakistan team was very soft and their pacers were very nice which led to their disappointing exit from the tournament.

Mohammad Kaif took to ‘X’ to make a statement about the Pakistan World Cup 2023 campaign. Kaif talked about the intimidating era of Pakistan when pacers like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and Shoaib Akhtar were there in the squad to haunt the batters with their pace and swing and also used to stare and sled if they could while calling the current batch ‘friendly’.

Mohammad Kaif stated, “Somehow feel this Pakistan team was too soft, their pacers too nice. Wasim, Waqar, and Shoaib were intimidating. They would stare at you, even sledge. Babar, Shaheen, Rauf – they lacked that aura, they looked too friendly.”

Pakistan’s bowling performance has been one of the reasons for their poor show in the World Cup as Haris Rauf conceded 533 runs in the tournament which is the highest by any bowler in a single World Cup edition. Shaheen Shah Afridi and Hasan Ali also failed to create an impact which led to a complete failure of the bowling attack.

Pakistan started their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign on a high after winning back-to-back matches against the Netherlands and Sri Lanka. After that, they were derailed from their ambitions as they lost four consecutive matches against India, Australia, Afghanistan and South Africa. This was the first time in the history of World Cups that Pakistan could only manage only four wins in nine matches. It was also the first time they lost four consecutive World Cup matches.

Babar Azam and company are under the spotlight for all the questions that will be thrown at them for Pakistan’s poor show in the World Cup. Pakistan will now gear up to tour Australia where they will play three tests against Aussies on Australian soil.
