Babar Azam received a lot of slamming for his poor captaincy in the ICC World Cup 2023. Pakistan had a forgettable ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. They lost five out of their nine matches in the round-robin league stage of the tournament, and finished 5th, a place below the top four, and hence were eliminated without reaching the semi-final of the World Cup for a third consecutive time. The team has received a lot of criticism from fans and pundits alike for the kind of cricket they played.

There are reports that suggest that the star batter would step down as Pakistan’s captain after returning home, and the latest developments now will further fuel these rumors.

According to sources, Babar Azam is set to meet Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Zaka Ashraf to discuss the future of his role as a captain across all formats for Pakistan. The Pakistan Cricket Board’s chairman had earlier said that it is not entirely his decision to decide the future of Babar Azam’s leadership roles. He will consult the PCB technical committee comprising of Misbah-ul-Haq and Mohammad Hafeez.

“It is not my decision, there is a full technical committee in which Misbah-ul-Haq and Hafeez are present. We will move forward based on their advice. This decision is not the chairman’s alone; we will proceed based on the consultation of technical experts who are also cricketers,” Zaka Ashraf said.

Zaka Ashraf Praises Babar Azam As A Player And Captain

Ashraf also said that Babar Azam is a great player and a great captain and he would pray for his success. “Babar Azam is a great captain and a very good player. We pray that he succeeds and brings a trophy for Pakistan,” he concluded.

Pakistan had a flying start to their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign with two consecutive wins over the Netherlands and Sri Lanka. They then went on to lose four games on the trot against India, Australia, Afghanistan, and South Africa. The Men In Green then had a mini resurgence with consecutive wins over Bangladesh and New Zealand but a defeat in their final league game against England knocked them out of the tournament.

Pakistan will now gear up to tour Australia for a three-match test series. There are a lot of major steps that need to be taken in order to reform the state of affairs of Pakistan Cricket. Hopefully, they will rise from this horrific World Cup show and thrive to become better in the coming days.
