Former Pakistan skipper Younis Khan is expected to take up a coaching role for Pakistan’s junior teams. He would be focusing on grooming and development of new talents in Pakistan Cricket. According to reports, following a recent meeting with PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf, it was agreed that Younis Khan would be taking responsibility for coaching and developing the junior teams. However, the final confirmation for the same is pending. It will be finalized when both Younis and Ashraf return from their respective trips to Dubai and India.

Younis Khan has shown his interest in nurturing junior players’ talent through his coaching. It is expected that the contract details for the same which have been verbally agreed upon, will be officially announced upon his return. Younis Khan led Pakistan in the 2009 T20 World Cup where Pakistan clinched the title.

The former Pakistan skipper is considered the greatest-ever test batter in the nation’s history. He is the only Pakistani batter with more than 10000 runs in test cricket. Younis Khan recorded 34 centuries in his test career, the most by any Pakistan player. He is also the only player to score test hundreds in all 11 nations.

Younis Khan As Coach Can Revive The Pakistan Cricket Team

Younis Khan is known for his leadership as he was a successful captain for Pakistan. His coaching might be something that could be the need of the hour for Pakistan Cricket. The Former Pakistan Skipper will nurture the young prospects and prepare them for the senior national team.

Meanwhile, the PCB has appointed former Pakistan pacer Sohail Tanvir as the head of the junior selection committee. Tanvir’s first assignment as the head of the junior selection committee will be selecting the Pakistan U19 squad for the ACC U19 Asia Cup 2023 which will be held in December 2023 in UAE.

Pakistan U19 will later take part in the ICC U19 World Cup 2024 from 13 January to 4 February in Sri Lanka. Pakistan is the only nation to win consecutive Under-19 World Cup titles in 2004 and 2006 respectively. Under the coaching of Younis Khan, they can look to win the title for a third time.
