Former New Zealand pacer Mitchell McClenaghan has taken a dig at the Indian cricket team after New Zealand’s win over Sri Lanka on Thursday. This sets up a likely IND vs NZ semi-final in Mumbai on November 15.

New Zealand are poised to reach yet another semi-final after their net run-rate-boosting win over Sri Lanka in their last league game. The Kiwis chased down the target of 172 inside 23.2 overs losing just five wickets. The big win with overs to spare has boosted their NRR to +0.743.

Pakistan now needs to overcome tough equations to surpass New Zealand’s NRR. For Afghanistan, who have a negative NRR, even a big win against South Africa might not be enough to surpass the NRR of New Zealand.

Meanwhile, the former Kiwi-left-arm pacer has reminded the Indian team and the Indian fans that they will be facing New Zealand in the first-semi-final in Mumbai. New Zealand have been a nemesis for India for over 20 years now. The Men in Blue defeated the Kiwis earlier in the league stage for the first time in 20 years since 2003.

Previously the Kiwis had beaten India in the 2019 World Cup-semi-final followed by the 2021 WTC final in recent times. In the past, they also defeated India in the 2007 and 2016 T20 World Cup games.

Taking to Twitter, Mitchell wrote “India just got real nervous #CricketWorldCup2023” taking an indirect jibe at the Indian cricket team given their recent record against the Kiwis in ICC tournaments.

“Playing the home team will be challenging. Team India is also the only side that is undefeated at the World Cup 2023. “Playing semis is special but playing the home team will be challenging. Looking forward to it if we are fortunate enough to have it,” Williamson said after New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka by 5 wickets.
