The IND vs NZ semi-final 1 of the ICC World Cup 2023 will be played in Mumbai on October 15. The Men in Blue topped the points table while the Kiwis finished fourth on the table after the league stage. India piled up 410/4 with Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli al scoring fifties. Shreyas Iyer (128*) and KL Rahul (102*) scored centuries. The Dutch were bundled out for 250 with the likes of Bumrah, Siraj, Kuldeep, and Jadeja picking two wickets each. Kohli and Rohit picked one each.
New Zealand also won their last league match against Sri Lanka to qualify for the semi-finals. They won their first four games on the trot. Then they went on a four-match losing streak starting with the India game. They were in a must-win situation heading into the game against Sri Lanka after losing their previous match against Pakistan. A win helped them secure their spot in the semi-finals for the third consecutive World Cup.

New Zealand have been India’s nemesis in ICC tournaments. This was the first time in 20 years that the Kiwis lost to India in an ICC event. Previously they beat India in the World Cup 2019 semi-final. the T20 2021 World Cup and the 2021 WTC final in recent times. They also beat them in the 2007 and 2016 T20 World Cup games.
Thus the Indian team knows very well what it is to play against the Kiwis in a big semi-final. Playing at home in known conditions will definitely give them the edge in the contest.
