India National Cricket Team batting maestro Virat Kohli created history in the first semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against Kane Williamson-led New Zealand National Cricket Team at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday, November 15.

The modern-day batting great once again showed a batting masterclass and helped India to get to a dominant position in the match. After Rohit Sharma was dismissed, Kohli came to the middle and played cautiously.

He took his time to settle and held the one end very well. Kohli was as usual extremely good with his strike rotation and he made sure that he punished the New Zealand bowlers for poor deliveries.

Virat Kohli completed his half-century off 59 balls and his innings consisted of 4 fours. The King wasn’t satisfied with just fifty and he was eyeing a big century at the iconic venue.

Virat Kohli kept batting brilliantly and he finally completed his ton off 106 balls. He hit 8 fours and 1 six en route to his innings. The thing that caught the attention of many was the iconic celebration pulled off by Kohli after completing the ton.

Virat Kohli looked extremely delighted after reaching the three-figure mark and he soaked in all the applause before removing his helmet and gloves and bowing down to the God of Cricket – Sachin Tendulkar.

Tendulkar was also standing and clapping for the modern master. Virat Kohli then blew a flying kiss to his wife Anushka Sharma, who was roaring in delight, and in return, the Bollywood Actress passed on multiple flying kisses.

With his century, Virat Kohli broke the historic record of Sachin Tendulkar for most ODI tons. He now has 50 centuries in the format, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 tons.

The God of Cricket took to X to share a special message for Virat Kohli after he broke the historic record at the iconic venue. He wrote:

“The first time I met you in the Indian dressing room, you were pranked by other teammates into touching my feet. I couldn’t stop laughing that day. But soon, you touched my heart with your passion and skill. I am so happy that that young boy has grown into a ‘Virat’ player. 

“I couldn’t be happier that an Indian broke my record. And to do it on the biggest stage – in the World Cup Semi-final – and at my home ground is the icing on the cake.”
