Wasim Akram lauded Rohit Sharma for his selfless batting approach in the tournament so far. He scored 47 off 29 balls adding a 71-run stand for the first wicket inside the first nine overs in the semi-final. India as a result of that good start piled up 397/4 in the semi-final against the Kiwis.

Rohit’s good start was followed by tons from Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer. While Kohli scored his 50th ODI ton, Iyer scored his second ton of this World Cup and his fifth overall of his career. Shubman Gill also scored an unbeaten 80 while KL Rahul contributed with 39 off 20 balls in the Indian batting effort.

Wasim Akram in the popular sports show “The Pavillion” lauded Rohit Sharma for the way he has batted in the World Cup so far. Rohit has scored 550 runs at an average of 55 with a hundred and three fifty-plus scores. Akram said people don’t Rohit’s name often because he hasn’t scored too many hundreds.

“It was a complete performance in every aspect of the game and the skipper leading from the front. Uska naam zayad nahi aata kyunki 100 nahi kiya usne ya 150-200 nahi kiye (People don’t talk much about Rohit because he hasn’t got many hundreds) but the kind of start he provides is what we have been speaking about. He batted a strike rate of 162 and piling up 82 in 10 overs, that was the stepping stone,” Akram said on the show.

Akram further praised the Indian batting approach in the same saying that the Indian batters needed to be given the due credit for the way they batted rather than criticizing the Kiwi bowlers.

“The New Zealand bowling attack seemed pedestrian but credit has to be given to India’s quality batting. People spoke about the pitch change and all, but the way they are playing, agar tum unhein akhaade par bhi khila doge to wo utna hi score karenge (even if you make them bat in some wrestling arena in the countryside, they will score the same amount of runs). They have that kind of confidence and a leader who is leading from the front,” he said.

Akra concluded by saying that the Indian skipper is keen on giving his team a good start and is not worried about scoring centuries.

“That’s the beauty of Rohit Sharma. Once he starts, he doesn’t stop. He’s not worried about his fifty or hundreds,” Akram concluded saying.
