Afghanistan and Ireland will meet for the second match of the ongoing three-match ODI series on Sunday (24th January) at Sheikh Zayed Stadium (Abu Dhabi). This upcoming ODI match will be a day encounter.
This ODI series is a part of the 2020–23 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League, where Afghanistan are currently leading this ODI series by 1-0 after the end of the first ODI. While they played the opening match of this series on last Thursday (21st January) at the same venue, Afghanistan won that match by 16 runs.
After winning the toss, Afghanistan scored 287/9 (50 overs), majorly thanks to ODI debutant Rahmanullah Gurbaz (127) and Rashid Khan‘s late blasting (55 off 30 balls). In reply, despite the brave fighting of wicket-keeper batsman Lorcan Tucker (83 off 96 balls), Ireland finished the second innings on 271/9 (50 overs).
Now, another victory will secure this ODI series for Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Ireland can’t afford another defeat in this series as they must have to win both the remaining matches to win this series.
