On Tuesday, November 21, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) officially announced the schedule for the Afghanistan tour of India 2024, which be held in the month of January.

India and Afghanistan will be going head-to-head in January for the first time since their encounter in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. In the World Cup clash, the Men In Blue thrashed their opponent by 8 wickets with 90 balls remaining at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, riding on the sensational century from skipper Rohit Sharma.

The match also saw an extraordinary moment as the IPL rivals – Virat Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq – buried the hatches and ended their rivalry. The matter between the duo had started during IPL 2023 when they were engaged in a verbal spat and following the heated exchange, Naveen-ul-Haq was bombarded with the ‘Kohli Kohli’ chants wherever he played in India.

Coming back to the India-Afghanistan series, the Afghans are scheduled to play three T20I matches in India in their January 2024 tour.

Surprisingly, the upcoming series between Afghanistan and the Men In Blue will be the first-ever instance of these two teams locking horns in a multi-match white-ball series. Notably, Afghanistan and India have faced off each other numerous times in competitions organized by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and International Cricket Council (ICC), but they didn’t play any multi-match white-ball series.

Talking about India’s World Cup campaign, they dominated the entire tournament and were on a 10-match winning streak heading into the World Cup final. However, their streak ended in the summit clash as Rohit Sharma & Co. suffered a massive defeat against Australia and it broke the hearts of billions of cricket fans.

Afghanistan, on the other hand, also had an impressive campaign as they pulled off some of the most memorable victories. They defeated three former World Cup-winning teams – England, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka – but were unable to qualify for the semi-finals.
