The Netherlands are hosting Ireland for a three-match ODI series to be played inside a week. The cricket-starved nation has had to wait a full year to get to play the sport again. In between, the rise of COVID cases meant that cricket was not being played very often. Meanwhile, the three-match ODI series is a part of the Cricket World Cup Super League. The first ODI will be played on June 2, with the second and the third on Friday (June 4) and Monday (June 7)

They will be playing their very first match in the CWC Super League. Every win gets the team 10 points each in this tournament. The Netherlands will thus be desperate to get the first points on board. The side will play against teams like England, South Africa, and New Zealand. Ireland ODI Team

Ireland, meanwhile, have played a bit more cricket in recent times. In the CWC however, they lost five out of the six games that they have played. Their net run rate (-1.076) is way less than where they would ideally like to be. Apart from the Afghan team, Ireland have also played against England in this competition.

Ireland have had a clear upper hand over the Netherlands in recent times. Overall in 10 ODI games, The Irish side has beaten the Dutch side seven times with Holland managing to win only once. The sides have played more T20I cricket in recent times where Andrew Balbirnie’s men have beaten the Dutch side in seven out of their last nine games.

The Irish team is way more experienced than the Dutch. The likes of Balbirnie himself, Paul Stirling, George Dockrell, Kevin O’Brien, and William Porterfield have been the pillars of Ireland for the last decade.

The Netherlands, on the other hand, have some exciting young prospect in the team. Some familiar faces such as Stephan Myburgh and Logan van Beek have joined the team as they seek to build a well-oiled unit. Blessed with some young talent in the form of Bas de Leede and Scott Edwards, the Dutch will be eyeing a triumphant start to the series on Wednesday.
