    Veteran Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah Riyad recently admitted that he is considering retiring from all formats of the game in international cricket. Mahmudullah expressed gratitude for his journey and remarkable achievements for the national team.

    Mahmudullah is currently representing the Bangladesh team in the ICC World Cup 2023. The batter smashed a century against South Africa at the Wankhede Stadium, but it came in a losing cause. He scored 111 runs off 111 balls with the help of 11 fours and four sixes.

    Have Always Tried To Give My Best – Mahmudullah

    Speaking to the ICC, Mahmudullah Riyad said that he is fortunate to have scored multiple hundreds in the World Cup matches. The veteran cricketer stated that he worked hard to make it to the World Cup squad.

    “It’s been a long time since I made my debut in 2007. Since then, I have been playing for a long time. I feel lucky to have hit so many hundreds in the World Cup,” Mahmudullah said.

    “Cricket is a game that always surprises you. I worked hard to be a part of the World Cup, and thanks to god that I am here. I have always tried to give my best,” he added.

    The 37-year-old was recalled to the World Cup squad after being overlooked by the selectors during the Asia Cup 2023.

    I Am Playing In My Last World Cup – Mahmudullah

    The all-rounder stated that the ongoing tournament is likely to be his final World Cup appearance, hinting at retirement from international cricket. He stated that his performance and fitness would determine how long he continues to represent Bangladesh.

    “Honestly speaking, I am playing in my last World Cup. Performance and fitness will decide how long I will play for Bangladesh. Maybe, after a few days or very soon I will retire from international cricket,” he further added.

    The Mymensingh-born cricketer represented the national team in 225 matches and scored 5218 runs at an average of 36.24, including four centuries and 27 half-centuries. He also contributed with the ball, taking 82 wickets at an average of 46.23.
