  • We Have No Other Option But To Beat Pakistan, Says Shakib Al Hasan As He Eyes Champions Trophy Spot

  • Ahead of the crucial game against Pakistan, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan has urged his teammates to walk the talk and win the clash.

Ahead of the crucial game against Pakistan, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan has urged his teammates to walk the talk and win the clash. Bangladesh will lock horns against Pakistan on Tuesday (October 31) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

While not many were expecting the Bangla Tigers to qualify for the semifinal, not many were expecting such poor performance either. The Shakib Al Hasan-led side began their campaign with a convincing 6-wicket win over Afghanistan before their campaign got completely derailed. After the win in their tournament opener, they have lost five games in a row.

In their last game, they suffered a shock defeat against the Netherlands. Batting first, the Netherlands were all out for a modest total of 229 runs. The score, however, turned out to be more than enough in the end as Bangladesh came up with a horror batting display and were all out for 142.

There is a lot to play for: Shakib Al Hasan:

Bangladesh are currently languishing at the ninth spot in the points table of the ten-team competition. With just one win from 6 games, Bangladesh’s chances of progressing to the semifinal are all but finished. Shakib Al Hasan, however, has said that there is still a lot to play for and has urged his teammates to win the remaining games.

He highlighted that his team has the opportunity to seal a spot in the Champions Trophy through the ongoing competition. The top eight teams along with hosts Pakistan will seal their spot for the 2025 Champions Trophy.

“We discussed it, we had our team meetings, so we sat down, we talked about it, but we have to show it in action and that the talk is cheap when it’s not working,” said Shakib Al Hasan.

“So, we’ll do it at the ground so the action can take care of it and everyone can see it. I mean, only we can change the situation of the team with our actions. So that’s what we are trying to do.

“There is a lot to play for. As you know, we have to win to be able to qualify for the Champions Trophy. That’s an important target I think we can set at this moment. We have to win. We have no other option and that’s what we would look to do,” he added.
