  • Mohammad Rizwan asked for the Bangladesh batter's help in taking DRS.

  • Pakistan and Bangladesh are going head-to-head at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The star Pakistan National Cricket Team wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan was part of an absolutely hilarious moment during the 31st match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Tuesday, October 31.

Rizwan is not known for being very accurate when it comes to suggesting his skipper Babar Azam to take reviews. Often Pakistan have wasted reviews after Rizwan’s suggestions and in the match against the Bangla Tigers the wicket-keeper decided to do something different before making any decision on DRS.

On the first ball of the 43rd over, the left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi bowled a 128.4kph full-length delivery down the leg to Taskin Ahmed and the ball went close to bat and pads. Behind the wickets, Mohammad Rizwan collected the ball with a good diving effort.

The gloveman and pacer appealed for the caught behind and the on-field umpire denied it. Rizwan quickly started the discussions with Shaheen Afridi and Babar Azam and if that was not enough, he went one step further.

After not getting satisfactory responses from Babar and Shaheen, Mohammad Rizwan asked the batter Taskin Ahmed if he got any bat on the ball to which he responded by saying that the ball had brushed his pads. “Pad hai? Ye (Taskin) keh raha pad laga hai,” told Rizwan to his skipper. Looking at Mohammad Rizwan’s antics, on-air commentators Ravi Shastri and Waqar Younis were in splits.

In the end, Pakistan decided against taking a DRS and it turned out to be a good decision as the batter was right as the ball had indeed brushed his pads.

Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss and elected to have a go with the bat first. Once again they failed miserably against the new ball and lost the wickets of Tanzid Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, and Mushfiqur Rahim inside 10 overs.

However, star players Litton Das and Mahmudullah provided some stability with their decent partnership. Das was unable to complete his fifty, but Mahmudullah reached the milestone. In the end, Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz chipped in with crucial runs, but Bangladesh were eventually bundled out for 204 in 45.1 overs.

For Pakistan, Mohammad Wasim Jr and Shaheen Afridi picked three wickets each. Haris Rauf got two wickets while Iftikhar Ahmed and Usama Mir bagged one wicket each.
