Fakhar Zaman made a roaring comeback.
Fakhar Zaman's innings helped Pakistan to crush Bangladesh.
The explosive left-handed opening batsman Fakhar Zaman made a roaring comeback to help the Pakistan National Cricket Team secure a crucial victory over Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh National Cricket Team in the 31st match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Tuesday, October 31.
Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first in the match against Pakistan. The Men In Green made three massive changes to their playing XI as Fakhar Zaman was brought back into the team alongside Agha Salman and Usama Mir. Imam-ul-Haq, Shadab Khan, and Mohammad Nawaz were left out of the playing XI.
Batting first, the top-order of the Bangla Tigers once again collapsed. The likes of of Tanzid Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, and Mushfiqur Rahim were back in the hut inside 10 overs and Bangladesh were reduced to 23/3.
After that Litton Das joined forces with the veteran all-rounder Mahmudullah to provide some stability with their decent partnership. Das was unable to complete his fifty, but Mahmudullah reached the milestone, although he wasn’t able to convert it into a big score.
In the end, Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz chipped in with crucial runs, but Bangladesh were eventually bundled out for 204 in 45.1 overs. For Pakistan, Mohammad Wasim Jr and Shaheen Afridi picked three wickets each. Haris Rauf got two wickets while Iftikhar Ahmed and Usama Mir bagged one wicket each.
Chasing the target, Fakhar Zaman and Abdullah Shafique provided the Men In Green with an excellent start. Fakhar brought out his natural aggressive cricket and smashed the bowlers all over the park.
Abdullah Shafique also settled in the middle before unleashing an attack on the Bangladesh bowling unit. The opening duo together added an outstanding 128 runs in 127 balls. Fakhar Zaman scored a terrific 81 runs and Abdullah Shafique smashed 68 runs.
The Pakistan skipper Babar Azam (9) failed to get going and was dismissed for a low score. In the end, Mohammad Rizwan and Iftikhar Ahmed remained unbeaten to guide their side to a victory in the 33rd over. They won the match dominantly by 7 wickets with 105 balls remaining.
With the loss in the match, Bangladesh have been knocked out of the race for the semi-finals. While the slim hopes of Pakistan are still alive.

In many ways saw the old Pakistan tonight. Why? Because they played non-conservative cricket!
It’s their natural style. It’s what made them the great side they were in the 90s. #icccricketworldcup2023— Sanjay Manjrekar (@sanjaymanjrekar) October 31, 2023
No surprise to me that Pakistan produce a quality display with all the nonsense surrounding the team .. Delighted for the skipper @babarazam258 as he is being treated with no respect by the powers that be .. Pakistan are back at the races .. #CWC2023 #Pakistan

The World Cup semi-final's hopes are still alive. If we win our next two matches and New Zealand loses its upcoming two matches out of three, then we'll qualify for the semis, InshAllah. 💯🤲#PAKvsBAN pic.twitter.com/ws6NJt4aQb

Bangladesh become the first team to officially be out of the race for a semi final spot. Even England can still theoretically make the semis, even though their chances are miniscule#CricketWorldCup2023
