The veteran Sri Lanka National Cricket Team all-rounder Angelo Mathews welcomed the Bangladesh National Cricket Team captain Shakib Al Hasan on the crease with some harsh words.

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match between the Asian rivals – Sri Lanka and Bangladesh – is currently underway at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Monday, November 6.

A controversial incident happened in the match that has overshadowed all the action taking place in the game. Sri Lanka all-rounder Mathews was declared timed out after the appeal from Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan.

After walking onto the pitch, Angelo Mathews asked for a helmet change as the strap of his helmet broke just as he was tightening it around his chin.

Mathews called for a replacement helmet, which was brought in by Chamika Karunaratne, and that was when Shakib Al Hasan appealed for timed out dismissal. The on-field umpires after a lengthy discussion declared the all-rounder out.

The Sri Lankan veteran tried to explain to the umpires as well as Shakib Al Hasan about his helmet issue, but he was forced to walk to the dugout after Bangladesh skipper refused to withdraw his appeal.
