The veteran Sri Lanka National Cricket Team all-rounder Angelo Mathews gave an epic “time to go” send-off to Bangladesh National Cricket Team captain Shakib Al Hasan in the 38th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Monday, November 6

Mathews was left fuming at the Bangladesh skipper after his controversial dismissal in the first innings of the match. Notably, the Sri Lanka all-rounder became the first player in the history of the game to get timed out.

Mathews expressed his anger on Shakib from the moment the Bangladesh skipper stepped onto the field to bat. As Shakib was coming in to bat after the dismissal of Litton Das, he passed some comments on the left-handed batter.

He came close to dismissing Shakib on the third ball of the 11th over but Charith Asalanka dropped a catch at short cover. However, the Sri Lanka all-rounder kept bowling well and eventually won the battle by dismissing Shakib Al Hasan.

On the first ball of the 32nd over, Angelo Mathews bowled a 121.8kph off-cutter to Shakib Al Hasan. The Bangladesh captain only managed to get a leading edge and Asalanka moved to his left from shortish extra cover and put in a dive to complete the catch.

What Actually Happened Between Angelo Mathews And Shakib Al Hasan?

Sri Lanka all-rounder Mathews was declared timed out after the appeal from Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan. After walking onto the pitch, Angelo Mathews asked for a new helmet change as the strap of his helmet broke just as he was tightening it around his chin.

Mathews called for a replacement helmet, which was brought in by Chamika Karunaratne, and that was when Shakib Al Hasan appealed for timed out dismissal. The on-field umpires after a lengthy discussion declared the all-rounder out.

The on-field umpires approached Shakib Al Hasan to ask whether he wanted to withdraw his appeal, but the Bangladesh captain refused twice.
