Shakib Al Hasan, the Bangladesh cricket superstar formally enters the field of politics, seeking a nomination from the ruling Bangladesh Awami League. In fact, He is hoping to run in the upcoming general election on January 7. Shakib is a popular figure in Bangladesh and has a huge influence on the people of Bangladesh which can greatly benefit his political career.

Awami League joint secretary general Bahauddin Nasim told the AFP that Shakib Al Hasan took the nomination forms on Saturday from the party office. He is expecting to contest in three constituencies in the upcoming general election. However, major opposition parties are ready to boycott the polls.

“He is a celebrity and has great popularity among the country’s youth,” Nasim said, welcoming the Bangladesh skipper. Shakib Al Hasan’s candidature is yet to be confirmed by a parliamentary board headed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Shakib Al Hasan Will Manage Politics Alongside His Cricketing Career

The Bangladesh Skipper hopes to contest either in his southwestern home district of Magura or in the capital city of Dhaka, according to General Secretary Nasim. Shiekh Hasina has led the Bangladeshi population of 170 million for the past 15 years. She has been accused of ruling the South Asian country with an iron fist. If the opposition’s boycott goes ahead, Hasina can see a fourth term in power.

Sheikh Hasina has overseen impressive economic growth in the country. However, Western countries have sounded the alarm over the democratic backsliding over there in Bangladesh. The opposition party has accused her of rigging the votes in the past two election polls.

It is nothing new for South Asian cricketers to turn to politics given the popularity of the sports. However, it is fairly new to see someone joining politics amid his cricketing career. Former Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza also joined politics in 2018 and was elected as a lawmaker from the ruling party in the same year. However, he led Bangladesh in the following 2019 World Cup before leaving the game to focus on his political career full-time.

Shakib Al Hasan is currently nursing a finger injury and will be unavailable for Bangladesh’s upcoming assignment. Bangladesh is gearing up to host New Zealand in two tests starting from November 28. In the absence of Shakib Al Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto will lead the side against Tim Southee’s New Zealand.

The Bangladesh National Cricket Team squad will be led by Najmul Hossain Shanto in the absence of several key players. Also, three uncapped players have been included in the team namely Hasan Murad, Shahadat Hossain Dipu, and Hasan Mahmud.

The left-arm spinner Hasan Murad has been highly impressive in the domestic circuit as he has bagged 121 wickets in 25 first-class matches since his debut for Chattogram Division in 2021. Also, top-order batter Shahadat Hossain Dipu and right-arm pacer Hasan Mahmud have been doing well for a while.

Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das To Miss Bangladesh vs New Zealand Test Series

The veteran all-rounder and Test captain, Shakib Al Hasan, will miss the Test series due to the finger injury he sustained during the World Cup while Litton Das has decided to skip the matches to be with his family.

“He(Litton) wanted leave for leave for one months and didn’t want to play two Tests as he wanted to give time to his family. We have granted it because we cannot push any player to play,” said Jalal Yunus, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

“We wanted him to play the second Test but he insisted that he wants to give time to his family for one month. He wanted to be with his newborn baby and her mother and as he insisted for several times. We approved his plea,” Yunus said

“If some cricketer doesn’t want to play, in that case you cannot put him in the national team because the professionalism need to come from the heart that ‘I want to play for my country’ and he must know whether he is available or not,” he added.

The other notable names who will miss the series are Tamim Iqbal, Ebadot Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, and Mushfik Hasan. Meanwhile, Najmul Hossain Shanto will become the 13th cricketer to lead Bangladesh in the purest format of the game.

Najmul Hossain Shanto will be captaining Bangladesh in the two-match home Test series against New Zealand. This comes after regular skipper Shakib Al Hasan was ruled out of the series after he faced an injury during the ICC World Cup 2023 game.

The first Test between Bangladesh and New Zealand will begin on November 28 in Sylhet and after a short break, the second game will take place from December 6 in Dhaka. Apart from Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh will also be without the services of Taskin Ahmed due to his recurring shoulder injury.

Litton Das will also miss the series as he has been granted one-month leave. He asked for a sabbatical to be his wife and newborn baby. It’ll be a difficult task for Bangladesh as they will be without some of their key players. This means that it’ll be an opportunity for some youngsters to stake their claim in the national team.

Bangladesh Cricket Board Director (BCB) Jalal Yunus talked about the developments and confirmed that Najmul Hossain Shanto will captain the team. Speaking to reporters, he explained (as quoted by DailyStar):

“Najmul Hossain Shanto will be the captain for the two-match Test series against New Zealand. Liton asked for a month’s leave. He will not play the two Tests so that he can spend time exclusively with his family.”

BAN vs NZ: You can’t force him to play the national team – Jalal Yunus on Litton Das not playing

Jalal Yunus targeted Das, saying that they cannot force someone to play for the national side. He revealed that they wanted him to play one game but he didn’t agree. He explained:

“We wanted him to play one Test, but he kept insisting for a month’s leave. So we agreed to grant him the leave. If someone doesn’t want to play, you can’t force him to play the national team. The professionalism must come from his heart.”

The series will be important for both the team in the context of the ICC World Test Championship. After the two Tests, Bangladesh and New Zealand will take on each other in the white-ball series, which will be played in New Zealand in December.

On Friday, November 17, the New Zealand Cricket (NZC) named the veteran left-arm pacer Neil Wagner as the replacement for the injured Matt Henry in the Test squad for the Bangladesh series.

Matt Henry sustained a right hamstring injury during his stint in the ongoing edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. He missed New Zealand’s all-important semi-final clash against India and the Black Caps faced a defeat in that game.

Further scans of Matt Henry have revealed that he will not be fit in time for the Bangladesh Test series, as a result, a replacement player has been added to the squad.

Notably, the veteran pacer Neil Wagner, who has been a top-notch performer for New Zealand, recently made a comeback to the Plunket Shield for Northern Districts after overcoming a back injury.

His record speaks for itself – Sam Wells on Neil Wagner

Talking about the inclusion of Neil Wagner to the Black Caps squad, National Selector Sam Wells said that the return of the pacer is great for them as he brings a lot of experience with him.

“It’ll be great to have Neil’s skill and experience on the tour of Bangladesh,” he said.

“His record speaks for itself and we all know what a great competitor he is. He’s played plenty of cricket in the sub-continent and I know he’s really excited by the challenge ahead.”

Meanwhile, the Test matches between Bangladesh and New Zealand are set to be played from November 28 to December 2 and from December 6 to December 10. The Black Caps will depart for Bangladesh on Tuesday, November 21.

Mohammad Ashraful

Former Bangladesh Skipper Mohammad Ashraful has shared his take on the ‘timed out’ dismissal enforced by Shakib Al Hasan on Angelo Mathews during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

He said he would have called back Angelo Mathews after the Timed Out dismissal if he was the captain there in place of Shakib. However, the reason he stated might be somewhat disrespecting towards Angelo Mathews.

“If I was leading, I would have thought long before appealing, and then I would have withdrawn it if he had a genuine reason for the delay,” Ashraful said in an interview on Saturday. “Primarily because he is no longer a dangerous player and him being on the field would have hardly mattered in the outcome of the match.”

Mohammad Ashraful, who marked his return to domestic cricket after completing his time period of a five-year ban for his involvement in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) corruption scandal in 2013, showed his sympathy to Shakib Al Hasan, the current Bangladesh Skipper, for his decision in the controversial dismissal. Ashraful was understanding of the fact that Bangladesh and Shakib were desperate for two points.

“At that moment, Bangladesh was desperate for two points with an eye on the Champions Trophy. That is what Shakib was thinking,” Ashraful said. Eventually, those two points have taken Bangladesh to eighth position and they are looking forward to a spot in the ICC Champions Trophy. However, if the Netherlands pull off an upset against India then they will have 6 points on their tally and will advance to the ICC Champions Trophy.

Mohammad Ashraful Recalls When Liton Das Called Back Ish Sodhi

Mohammad Ashraful recalled when Liton Das called back Ish Sodhi after Hasan Mahmud ran him out at the non-striker’s end. He also mentioned that Sodhi went on to hit two sixes and take that match away from Bangladesh but this time they had a Champions Trophy spot in mind.

“When we played New Zealand (in September in Bangladesh), Hasan Mahmud ran out (Ish) Sodhi (for backing too far) at the non-striker’s end, but Litton (Das) called him back. Sodhi hit two sixes thereafter and we lost the match. At that time, (it was) no problem. But this time, everybody was thinking about the Champions Trophy.”

Mohammad Ashraful showed no hesitation in speaking about serving the ban after being involved in the Bangladesh Premier League corruption scandal. He was sentenced to an eight-year ban, which was imposed in 2013. It was reduced to five years before he made a return to domestic cricket. He feels that the modern generation is susceptible to corruption approaches with the emergence and growing popularity of the T20 leagues.

“I spoke openly about everything. I was honest after what happened. That is why I am comfortable now. If I had not spoken openly, probably I would have felt guilty. And because I said everything openly, even those who hated me, accepted me,” said Ashraful,

He concluded by saying, “Everyone can make mistakes. We are humans, not angels. When someone falls and gets back, we need to support them. With the rise of franchise cricket, it has become difficult for players to deal with approaches. My only suggestion is that the player has to be honest. There will definitely be approaches made, you have to inform the captain and the team management.”

Mohammad Ashraful has played over 250 international matches for Bangladesh across all three formats. He was one of the most promising Bangladeshi players and was once compared to the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Ashraful was the youngest player to score a test ton at the tender age of seventeen. He is considered Bangladesh’s first-ever World Class player.

Bangladesh fast-bowler Taskin Ahmed has confirmed he will miss the upcoming two-match Test series against New Zealand at home. The right-arm pacer won’t be able to play the series due to a shoulder injury.

Taskin Ahmed suffered an injury during the World Cup and had to miss a couple of matches. He is still recovering from the injury and will begin rehabilitation shortly. The Bangladesh star also stated that he is hopeful of recovering completely ahead of the three-match T20I series against New Zealand in December. The T20I series is scheduled to take place in New Zealand. It means he will also miss the ODI series in New Zealand.

“I was playing with a tear in my shoulder and I couldn’t find my best rhythm (in the World Cup),” Taskin Ahmed was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

“I will not be playing the Test series against New Zealand at home in the coming winter as I want to do start rehabilitation after taking some rest and hoping to be available for the T20Is against New Zealand that is scheduled after our home series against them,” he added.

More injury woes for Bangladesh:

Taskin Ahmed is not the only big name who will miss the upcoming Test series against New Zealand. Bangladesh will also be without their veteran allrounder Shakib Al Hasan for the crucial series. Shakib suffered a fractured finger during the World Cup game against Sri Lanka and is set to miss the Test series. The availability of senior opener Tamim Iqbal is also in doubt.

Meanwhile, Taskin Ahmed also wished Allan Donald who stepped down as the fast-bowling coach of Bangladesh after the World Cup. Praising the South African great for his contribution to Bangladesh cricket, the pacer said:

“He (Donald) took care of our fast bowling exceptionally well. He always backed us regardless of our performance. He motivated us a lot. I enjoyed working with him. He is leaving us, but that’s life. Every coach has a two or four-year span. I wish him for his future.”

The two-match Test series is scheduled to be played from November 28. The second Test will begin on December 6.

Saud Shakeel (29) perished early as well but Agha Salman (51) hit a valiant century, which wasn’t enough.

England kept chipping with wickets at regular intervals before Shaheen Afridi (25), Haris Rauf (35) and Mohammad Wasim Jr (16*) entertained the crowd with their hitting. They were all out for just 244 runs and lost the game by 93 runs.

Fans on X reacted after Australian batter Mitchell Marsh slammed a brutal ton in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 game against Bangladesh. The 43rd match of the tournament is taking place at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

Mitchell Marsh has played a magnificent innings against Bangladesh and made sure that he moves into the semi-finals high on confidence. The all-rounder came to bat when Australia lost Travis Head early in the chase of 307 runs. He unleashed himself right from the start and put the opposition under pressure.

Micthell Marsh played shots all over the park and made many stand and applaud him. The lanky batter didn’t put a foot wrong in his innings as he took the attack to the Bangladesh bowlers and made their mockery. He continued his dream run and brought up his second ton of the tournament.

Mitchell Marsh smashed his century in just 87 balls. His innings have put Australia in the top seat in the big chase of over 300 runs.  Even after slamming a ton, he continued scoring at the same pace and is making sure that his side ends the league stage on high.

Mitchell Marsh is batting at the strike rate of over 122 and had slammed 6 sixes and 11 fours at the time of writing of this piece. If he continues to bat the same way, Australia surely will chase the target with many overs to spare. Also, he has a great chance to slam his double ton as well. The batter is down with cramps but is continuing to smash bowlers with the same intensity.

Australian speedster Mitchell Starc is not a part of the Australian XI that is playing against Bangladesh in Pune on Saturday, November 11. This is the last league game for both teams with Australia having already qualified for the semi-final. Meanwhile, Bangladesh are eliminated from the tournament.

Australia won the toss and opted to field first in Pune. Steve Smith returns to the playing XI after missing the previous game against Afghanistan due to vertigo. He is now back in the side and will bat in the top order. Sean Abbott also gets a game in the match.

Meanwhile, Australian skipper Pat Cummins at the toss revealed why Starc and Maxwell are not playing the match against Bangladesh. He said that the two key players are given some much-needed rest ahead of the second semi-final in Kolkata.

Mitchell Starc And Glenn Maxwell Rested Before Semi-Final: Pat Cummins

“We are gonna have a bowl. There might be some swing in the air because it is early morning. Another chance to play well. We have got two changes. Maxwell and Starc have been rested to ensure they are good going into the semis. Smith and Sean Abbott are in. Seany getting his first game. In patches, we have done well. We still haven’t played the complete game. We would like to focus on our own game. We are still on a high. Seeing the reactions all over the world” said Cummins.

Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan is not leading Bangladesh in today’s game. Najmul Hossain Shanto has stepped in for him with the Tigers looking to win their last game. Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka in their last game under controversial circumstances with Shakib being at the center of it all. However, he is not a part of this game for his side.

Bangladesh Coach Chandika Hathurusingha Bats For Timed Out Rule Change After Angelo Mathews-Shakib Al Hasan Debacle

Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurusingha has had his say on Angelo Mathews’ controversial timed-out dismissal in the game against Sri Lanka. As it turned out Bangladesh won the game in the end and notched up their second win of this campaign.

Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan said that he did it since it was within the laws saying that he took the game as being in a war situation and doing what was best for the team’s cause.

Mathews was ruled timed-out after he exceeded the two minutes allowed for an incoming batsman to take strike since he had to fix the broken strap of his helmet. This happened after Shakib appealed against him. He was thus dismissed without even facing a ball.

Leave The Decision To The Umpires: Chandika Hathurusingha

Now the Bangladesh coach, who is a Sri Lanka by birth and a former Sri Lankan cricketer, said that he will leave it up to the umpires to decide whether the mode of dismissal should be kept on or not.

“I don’t think it (the row) is going to stop here, whatever I say. The only thing I can say is that it’s one of the modes of dismissal. My suggestion is to leave it to the umpires to decide, I don’t think you should leave it to the players to appeal and all that” said Haturusingha.

The Bangladesh coach also kept a word on Shakib’s future. He played his fifth World Cup but failed to make an impact like he did in the last World Cup. His fellow teammates Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah also might have played their last World Cups.

“We have had him for a long time, when you have someone of Shakib’s caliber as your number one all-rounder, it’s two players in one…It’s hard (to replace him in the side). They have been the best of Bangladesh cricket in the short journey of Bangladesh cricket. If they decided to quit, it’s a change (passing) of the baton kind of thing,” the Bangladesh coach said.

The Tigers play their last game against Australia on November 11, Saturday with their Champions Trophy 2025 qualification on the line.

Bangladesh Coach Chandika Hathurusingha Bats For Timed Out Rule Change After Angelo Mathews-Shakib Al Hasan Debacle

Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews was controversially timed out against Bangladesh after Shakib Al Hasan appealed against him in the match. In the process, Mathews became the first batsman in the history of the game to be dismissed times out.

The Bangladesh cricket team and their skipper Shakib coped with a lot of criticism. He was also accused of disrupting the spirit of the game by cricket experts and fans alike. Shakib however, stood his ground and said that he appealed because it was within the laws of the game.

Angelo Mathews was asked to walk off the field by the umpires after Shakib Al Hasan appealed for a time-out when Mathews was trying to get his helmet changed. He did come to the crease on time but his helmet strap came off and he wanted his helmet to be changed. That prompted Shakib to appeal against him and eventually, he was dismissed. He had to walk off the ground without even facing a ball.

Now ace Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has reacted to this incident. He was the one who advocated for Mankad dismissals in the past and appealed against batsman leaving their crease way too early. However, he sympathised with Mathews saying that he had the right to be disappointed after Shakib’s appeal.

“One side is talking about the rules and another side is talking about the spirit of cricket. When Mathews came out to bat, his helmet was not okay, and he wanted to change that. I saw another video where Shakib did not bring his guard against Sri Lanka and he was allowed to bring it later. It has almost become warfare between these two countries,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

“Actually with timed-out, yes Shakib appealed and the umpire gave it out, agreed. Recently, there has been information that Mathews was already warned by the umpires about the timed-out dismissal. But Mathews was really upset that he got out, and rightly so. No one should get out like that, everyone will feel bad about that,” Ashwin further added.

Both Angelo Mathews And Shakib Al Hasan Were Right: Ravichandran Ashwin

He concluded by saying that this incident has further fuelled the rivalry between the two cricket nations. Ashwin said that both cricketers were right in doing what they did except that it looked like a war in the middle.

“Both Angelo Mathews and Shakib Al Hasan were right. One person knew the rule and the other person asked if he could let it go since it was a helmet malfunction. The affected party is certainly the one who got out,” Ashwin concluded.

Jos Buttler, England

Defending champions England will face the Pakistan team in their final league match of the ICC World Cup 2023 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday, November 11. This match holds significance as the England team is at risk of missing the Champions Trophy 2025.

The ICC announced that the top 8 teams in the World Cup will qualify for the Champions Trophy. India, South Africa, Australia, Pakistan, and Afghanistan have secured berths, while England, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the Netherlands are competing for the two spots.

Revealed – Who Will Qualify For Champions Trophy 2025?

England needs to win a match against England and hope Bangladesh and the Netherlands lose as well. Even if they lose, the Jost Buttler-led team would hope to maintain a higher net run rate (NRR) than Sri Lanka and rely on other teams losing their matches in the event.

Bangladesh faces a tough task to secure a spot in the Champions Trophy as their lower NRR places them behind England on the table. Bangladesh requires a significant victory against Australia to impact their NRR or a loss that doesn’t drop them below Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka has completed their matches in the World Cup and now relies on other teams’ outcomes. They require two of the England, Bangladesh, and Netherlands matches by a significant margin to secure their spot in the Champions Trophy based on NRR.

Dutch face a challenge after their significant loss to England, occupying the bottom place. They will face India in their next match, but the victory will not secure their berth. They require a substantial victory and a significant loss from either Bangladesh or England.

It’s A Huge Game For Us – Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler stressed the importance of the upcoming game against Pakistan in Kolkata, acknowledging its significance in ending their trip to India on a high note. They aimed to deliver a stronger performance, considering the challenges they’ve faced so far.

“Yeah, vital. It’s a huge game for us. We haven’t performed the way we wanted to this whole trip, and we’d like to leave India putting in a proper performance. So, yeah, it’s a huge game for us. Yeah, they’re a top team. We look forward to a really good game against them and it will start again. But yeah, we can take confidence from the stuff we’ve done well today,” Buttler said.

The seasoned India National Cricket Team left-arm seamer Jaydev Unadkat slammed the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team all-rounder Angelo Mathews following his timed-out dismissal controversy in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match between the Asian rivals – Sri Lanka and Bangladesh – at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Monday, November 6, saw a massive controversy.

Sri Lanka all-rounder was declared timed out after the appeal from Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan. After walking onto the pitch, Angelo Mathews asked for a helmet change as the strap of his helmet broke just as he was tightening it around his chin.

Mathews called for a replacement helmet, which was brought in by Chamika Karunaratne, and that was when Shakib Al Hasan appealed for timed-out dismissal. The on-field umpires after a lengthy discussion declared the all-rounder out. They also asked whether Shakib wanted to withdraw his appeal, which he denied.

This is a cricket ground and not your backyard – Jaydev Unadkat slams Angelo Mathews

India National Cricket Team pacer came out in support of Bangladesh amid the controversy. He took to his official X handle to repost a post that mentioned how the on-field umpire Richard Illingworth had informed Angelo Mathews about the timing prior to the problem with his helmet strap.

The post of Jaydev Unadkat garnered the attention of netizens during Sri Lanka’s match against New Zealand. In his post, he slammed the Sri Lanka all-rounder, saying that he should himself show the sportsmanship if he expects the same from others.

“This is why you should always listen to both sides of the story before jumping to conclusions and giving sympathy points. This is a cricket ground and not your backyard where you can laze around. if you expect sportsmanship, show some yourself first (by taking the umpire’s consent to change the equipment and not just wandering off the pitch as if you don’t care),” the Indian pacer said.

After the Mathews incidents, the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team and Bangladesh National Cricket Team players avoided the customary post-match handshakes following the conclusion of the game.

Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly made a bold remark about Glenn Maxwell’s innings against Afghanistan in the ICC World Cup 2023. He denied terming it as one of the greatest knocks in ODIs and said that he has seen more fantastic knocks than it.

Glenn Maxwell has been in the headlines ever since he played a blinder of a knock against Afghanistan in the ICC World Cup 2023. The all-rounder snatched victory for Australia from the jaws of defeat and entered his name in the record books

Australia had very little chance to win the game but Glenn Maxwell did unimaginable. The team was tumbling at 91/7 while chasing 292 runs. However, he unleashed his beast mode and played some brutal strokes that brought his side back in the game and put the opposition under immense pressure.

Glenn Maxwell slammed a magnificent unbeaten 201-run knock and powered his team to the semi-final of the tournament. His innings were special because he was down with cramps and could hardly walk. Despite being in tremendous pain, he batted magnificently well and played some glorious shots with minimal footwork, that awestruck many.

Sourav Ganguly was asked by RevSportz, if Glenn Maxwell’s innings was one of the greatest innings. Replying to which, he stated: “No no. I have seen some fantastic innings. From Sachin. From Virat.”

“It was a fantastic innings. Not the best of bowling and captaincy but a fantastic innings,” Ganguly added.

Notably, many fans and experts rated Glenn Maxwell’s innings as the greatest in the ODIs. His 201-run knock was the highest score by any batter in the chase.

South African batter David Miller was all praise for the Glenn Maxwell. He said that the all-rounder is an X factor for his team. Speaking to reporters, he explained:

“Of course. Seeing a knock like that was really special. He’s an X-Factor, a match winner. It was inspiring to see no foot movement there and still hitting sixes and fours. From a game where they were dead and buried.”

Australia and South Africa will be facing each other in the semi-final of the World Cup 2023. It’ll be an exciting clash to watch as both teams have played the staggering brand of cricket.

Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is reportedly seeking clarification from senior players Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal regarding their future roles in the national cricket team. Bangladesh is currently entering a transitional phase due to the aging of some key players.

Shakib Al Hasan expressed his intention to retire from international cricket gradually, opting to step down from one format at a time. The all-rounder is unavailable for the World Cup 2023 match against Australia and the Test series against New Zealand at home.

Tamim Iqbal has decided not to participate in the series against New Zealand, stating that he lacks the necessary preparation. The veteran opener is also not part of the Bangladesh team’s World Cup 2023 squad, as he allegedly declined to play in the middle order.

Shakib Al Hasan Has A Plan And We Need To Be Clear – BCB Official

An anonymous BCB official mentioned that Shakib Al Hasan is unavailable for the New Zealand series due to injury, and the board wants clarification on his future leadership roles and preferred formats.

“Shakib is unavailable [for the NZ series] due to injury. He has a plan and we need to be clear about it in terms of his leadership roles and what formats they [Shakib and Tamim] want to go ahead with,” a BCB official told The Daily Star on condition of anonymity.

Tamim Iqbal Will Not Be Available For New Zealand Series – Jalal Yunus

Cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus stated that Tamim Iqbal has not been training for a month, making him unavailable for the series. Jalal Yunus mentioned that Tamim’s future steps will be communicated later.

“Tamim informed us that he has not been training for the last one month. Since he has not worked out or done any preparations, he will not be available in the series. He will let us know about his next steps later,” Jalal Yunus told The Daily Star.

We Aren’t Negative About Liton Das – BCB Official

BCB is concerned about Litton Das’ ‘wavering concentration’ due to personal issues, and he has left the squad twice during the World Cup. Litton Das has struggled to maintain focus and often loses his wicket after promising starts.

“We aren’t negative about Liton but for some reason, he has lost a bit of focus on everything,” a BCB official close to the development said.

Bangladesh had a disappointing World Cup campaign, suffering six losses. They managed victories against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. They are currently in eighth place in the table with four points, putting their spot in the 2025 Champions Trophy in jeopardy.

Former Pakistan cricketer Waqar Younis has come under scrutiny as the High Court in Bangladesh has issued a ruling against him, as per Cricket Pakistan. The bowling great has received the notice because of his criticism of Shakib Al Hasan for his timed-out appeal against Angelo Mathews.

During the game between Bangladesh and Sri Lankan ICC World Cup 2023, Angelo Mathews was termed timed out after Shakib Al Hasan appealed for it. The Sri Lanka batter came out to bat and before taking the guard his helmet broke and he called for a new one. The fielding side appealed and he was given out.

Following that Shakib Al Hasan received a lot of criticism from various cricket experts, players as well and fans. Waqar Younis also lashed out at the Bangladesh skipper, saying that it was unsportsmanlike behavior. Speaking to a broadcast channel, he stated:

“I didn’t enjoy what I saw out there. That wasn’t good for the spirit of cricket. I am old school and I think that was a lot of drama to get Angelo Mathews out.”

The ruling against Waqar Younis has told the Bangladesh Cricket Board to give them a reason why they shouldn’t file an official complaint with the ICC to remove the former Pakistan cricketer from the commentary panel of the ICC World Cup 2023.

The ruling was issued by Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Atabullah, who gave 10 days to BCB to respond to their notice.

AUS vs BAN: I was at war and I had to take a decision to make sure my team wins – Shakib Al Hasan

Shakib Al Hasan also talked about the dismissal of Angelo Mathews after the game. He said that if it is in the rules of the game then he doesn’t mind taking it. He highlighted that he’s at war for his country and can do anything to win. He added:

“One of our fielders came to me and said if you appeal now he’ll be out. Then I appealed and the umpires asked me if I’m serious or whether I am going to take it back. It’s in the laws. I don’t know if it’s right or wrong. I was at war and I had to take a decision to make sure my team wins. Right or wrong, there will be debates but if it is in the rules I don’t mind taking those chances. That (altercation with Mathews) helped, a bit more fight, I’m 36 and normally fight doesn’t come easily but happy it did today.”

Bangladesh will play their last league match without Shakib Al Hasan. The all-rounder has been ruled out of the tournament with a fracture.

Australian batter Glenn Maxwell took the cricketing World by storm with his miraculous innings against Afghanistan in the ICC World Cup 2023. The all-rounder won his side game from the jaws of defeat and entered himself into the record books.

Glenn Maxwell slammed a magnificent unbeaten 201-run knock and powered his team to the semi-final of the tournament. His innings came at a time when Australia were tumbling at 91/7 while chasing 292 runs. The all-rounder although lucky early on, made Afghanistan pay for dropped chances.

What made his innings even more special was he was down with cramps and could hardly walk. Despite being in tremendous pain, he batted magnificently well and played some glorious shots with minimal footwork, that awestruck many.

However, the real hero behind Glenn Maxwell’s knock was Australia team physio Nick Jones. He played a great role in batter scripting history as he continuously made an appearance on the field and treated the all-rounder well.

Nick Jones talked about how he kept Glenn Maxwell calm despite him being in pain. He revealed his conversation with the batter, saying that he motivated him to keep going. Speaking to cricket.com.au, he explained:

“From there it was obvious we were fighting a losing battle. That’s not unusual – we see this a lot with lots of different players – but the more running you do, you’re bringing (cramps) on more regularly and more quickly. I was going out pretty regularly and I was just trying to keep him calm, trying to down-regulate everything, manage his heart rate and be as assuring as possible.

“(Jones said to Maxwell) ‘We’ve seen this before, we know what this looks like – I think you’re going to be able to do this. If we can keep you as upright as possible, you’re going to be able to keep going from now’.”Then he went down like he was free, lying down like a dead man on the floor.”

Nick Jones further added that Glenn Maxwell told him he can’t bat anymore and he will retire. He added even skipper Pat Cummins told him to go off the field and get treatment. He elaborated:

“I got out there and it was his right calf, his left hammy and a few other areas that were all cramping at the same time. While we were giving him a bit of a stretch out, it was in that moment he said, ‘I’m done here. I can’t keep going. I need to come off and retire.’

“Patty was like, ‘go off, get some treatment and you can always come back later’. That is reasonable in some situations. But in that one, from my end, if you take someone off in that situation when their system is already depleted, and you sit them down and cool them down – you’re not getting them back up.”

AUS vs NED: I think we made the right call in terms of keeping him out there – Nick Jones on Glenn Maxwell

Nick Jones remarked how he pushed Glenn Maxwell to stay there in the field. He revealed that he told him to minimize his feet moment and added that it was the right call for them to keep the batter out. He explained:

“Their body shuts down. They often go into full body cramps and you’re often not able to get any level of function out of them. He was struggling big time but I said to Glenn initially, ‘look, I think your best bet is to get you up off the ground. You’re lying down, other things are going to cramp, we need you up on your feet, we need to stretch the key muscle groups that are going.

“But if you stay on your feet and minimise your running, I think you can stay out here. I think that’s your best bet’. I explained that to Patty … we need to keep him out there and keep him going. The way it played out from there was absolutely amazing and well beyond anything I expected he could do. I think we made the right call in terms of keeping him out there,” he concluded.

Angelo Mathews, Shakib Al Hasan dismissal

Angelo Mathews’ brother, Trevin Mathews issued a warning to Shakib Al Hasan after the controversial dismissal of his brother. Trevin Mathews doesn’t want the Bangladeshi skipper to play any international matches or the Lanka Premier League (LPL) matches in Sri Lanka.

Angelo Mathews was timed out without facing a single ball against Bangladesh in Sri Lanka’s last match. Matthews couldn’t take guard within two minutes due to helmet issues. Bangladesh skipper appealed for a dismissal, and the onfield umpire ruled in his favor.

We Are Very Disappointed – Trevin Mathews

Trevin Mathews, who also played cricket at the club level, accused Shakib Al Hasan of a lack of sportsmanship in the gentleman’s game. Trevin stated that Shakib may face adverse reactions from the fans, including the possibility of being pelted with stones in Sri Lanka.

“We are very disappointed. Bangladeshi captain has no sportsman spirit and did not show humanity in the gentleman’s game,” said Trevin Mathews, as quoted by BDCricTime.com

We never expected this right from his captain to the rest of the team members. Shakib is not welcome in Sri Lanka. If he comes here to play any international or the LPL matches, stones will be thrown at him, or will have to face the annoyance of the fans,” he added.

“Angelo was within his crease in the stipulated time but it was not his fault when the strap of his helmet was broken.”

Angelo Mathews Wasn’t Ready To Receive The Ball – Fourth Umpire

In an interview with Ian Bishop, fourth umpire Adrian Holdstock stated that the two-minute period had already elapsed before Angelo Mathews’ helmet strap issue occurred.

“ICC World Cup playing conditions supersede the MCC laws of cricket. When it comes to the timed out, at the fall of a wicket, or even retirement of a batter, the incoming batter has to be in position and ready to receive the ball within two minutes, or his other partner to receive the ball in two minutes,” Holdstock said.

“We have certain protocols where the TV umpire at the fall of the wicket, monitors the two minutes. And he will then relay the message to the on-field umpires. And in the instance this afternoon, the batter wasn’t ready to receive the ball within those two minutes, even before the strap became an issue for him,” he added.

While Shakib Al Hasan did not have any hesitation in justifying his appeal for a ‘time out’ dismissal against Angelo Mathews, Bangladesh bowling coach Allan Donald has made it clear that he was not at all impressed.

The World Cup game between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka earlier this week was marred by Mathews’ controversial dismissal. The former Sri Lanka skipper became the first batsman in international cricket to be adjudged timed out as he failed to be ready to face the first ball within two minutes of the last dismissal.

The incident took place in the 25th over of the innings. Mathews managed to arrive at the crease on time but as he was getting ready to face the first ball, he realized that the strap of his helmet was broken. He immediately asked for a new helmet. And while he was waiting for the helmet, Shakib Al Hasan appealed for a timed-out dismissal and the umpire had no option but to give his decision in the favour of the bowling side.

Allan Donald on Angelo Mathews’ dismissal:

After the game, Shakib Al Hasan made it clear that he had no regrets over his action. On the other hand, Mathews called it ‘absolutely disgraceful’ as he expressed his disappointment over the dismissal. And Allan Donald has also shared his views on the incident.

The former South Africa pacer, who is currently plying his trade as Bangladesh’s coach, refused to back his captain’s actions and said that he was disappointed with the incident. He also stated that he does not ‘like that sort of thing’ as he opined that Bangladesh should have given Mathews the time to replace the broken helmet.

“It was disappointing to see. I can understand Shakib taking his chance. His words were ‘I was doing everything to win’. You can sense in my voice that I don’t like I don’t like that sort of thing. It was really difficult to watch that unfold – one of Sri Lanka’s all-time greats walking off the field without a ball bowled to him being given out for time. That’s where I stand on that,” Allan Donald said in an interview with CricBlog as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

“You talk about the respect and the dignity for each other and for the game, the spirit of the game. I just don’t want to see things like that. That’s just me. I just don’t want to see that sort of thing in our game where, okay, someone was sharp out there and said ‘well, you can appeal’. I was like, ‘really – this is not going to happen, this cannot be happening, this can’t be happening.

“The most sensible thing would have been to just to say, ‘okay, no worries, mate, sort your helmet out quickly; you have time to replace it’,” added Allan Donald.

Speaking further, the legendary pacer also said that he was on the verge of running out on the pitch and urging Shakib to withdraw his appeal.

“My immediate reaction when that happened – and this is just [that] my instincts would have taken over – is I almost actually thought of going on that field and saying, ‘enough is enough, we don’t stand for this; we are not that kind of team who stand for this’. That was my immediate thought.

“Things happened so quickly, but you’re talking about authority and I’m not the head coach, I’m not in charge. I just saw Marais Erasmus [the umpire at the bowler’s end] say, ‘Please Angelo, you can now depart the ground’. And, seeing Angelo pick his helmet up and then walking off and throwing it against the advertising boards; it just was… I was surprised,” he said.

Talking about the game, Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka by 3 wickets while chasing 279 to register their second win of the competition.

Shakib Al Hasan injured himself during Bangladesh’s game against Sri Lanka. He got a fracture on his left index finger and was deemed unfit to take part in the further stage of the tournament. The captain now will be heading back home as his tournament is over because Bangladesh has only one game left.

Although Bangladesh have been knocked out of the tournament, Shakib Al Hasan’s absence will be a massive blow for the team. It’s because the team’s qualification for the Champions Trophy 2025 is at stake. The all-rounder found his touch back and played a vital knock against Sri Lanka.

Shakib Al Hasan scored 82 runs and helped his side win the game against Sri Lanka. He also picked two wickets with the ball and was awarded Player of the Match. His absence surely would hamper the balance of the team for the last game.

Anamul Haque on the other hand has a decent record in ODIs. He has played 45 games for the team and has scored 1258 runs. The keeper-batter also has smashed three tons and has an average of 29.95 in the 50-over format.

AUS vs BAN: Bangladesh Team Physio Bayjedul Islam Khan provides details on Shakib Al Hasan’s injury

Bangladesh Team Physio Bayjedul Islam Khan provided an update about Shakib Al Hasan’s injury. He revealed that the batter was the skipper played with an injured hand. He added that he would take three to four weeks to recover.

“Shakib was struck on his left index finger early in his innings but continued to bat with supportive taping and painkillers,” he said. He underwent an emergency X-ray in Delhi after the game which confirmed the fracture on the left PIP joint. Recovery is estimated at three to four weeks. He will leave for Bangladesh today to begin his rehab.”

Bangladesh will be next seen in action when they will take on Australia on Saturday 11th November.

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar came out in favour of Shakib Al Hasan over his Angelo Mathews timed-out dismissal. He believes what the Bangladesh skipper did during the ICC World Cup 2023 clash was well within the laws of the game and he supports him.

The game between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in the World Cup witnessed history as for the first time we witnessed a timed-out dismissal. Angelo Mathews was the unlucky one to bag the mode of dismissal. He came out to bat and as he was about to take his guard, the strap of his helmet broke.

In the meantime, Shakib Al Hasan appealed to the umpire and it paid off as officials termed the batter out. It was well within the rules of cricket, which state: “After the fall of a wicket or the retirement of a batter, the incoming batter must unless Time has been called, be ready to receive the ball or for the other batter to be ready to receive the next ball within two minutes of the dismissal or retirement. If this requirement is not met, the incoming batter will be out, Timed Out.”

It created a lot of controversy after that as Angelo Mathews was fuming after that and many fans and experts lashed out at Shakib Al Hasan. They criticised the Bangladesh skipper for his appeal and slammed him for upholding the spirit of the game. The Sri Lanka batter and umpires told him to withdraw his appeal but he didn’t.

With almost everyone lashing out at Shakib Al Hasan, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar supported him. He highlighted the Bangladesh skipper’s words and said that he did right. Speaking to Star Sports, he explained:

“Shakib Al Hasan was desperate to win. He mentioned in the post-match presentation that he’s a warrior and it was like a war, he wanted to win. If it’s allowed in laws like running out the non-striker, he did that within the laws. So whatever is under laws, I’ll always support that and it was right to do what he did.”

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan has been ruled out of the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 owing to a finger injury. The veteran allrounder sustained an injury to his left Index finger during the game against Sri Lanka at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Monday (November 6).

He suffered the injury while batting. Later, an X-ray scan confirmed a fracture in the finger. Consequently, he has been ruled out of the tournament and won’t be a part of Bangladesh’s last league game. Bangladesh, who have already been knocked out of the competition, will take on five-time world champions at the MCA Stadium in Pune on 11 November.

“Shakib was struck on his left index finger early in his innings but continued to bat with supportive taping and painkillers,” Bangladesh physio Bayjedul Islam Khan said.

“He underwent an emergency X-ray in Delhi after the game which confirmed the fracture on the left PIP joint. Recovery is estimated at three to four weeks. He will leave for Bangladesh today to begin his rehab,” he added.

While Bangladesh are already out of the semifinal race, they still have a lot to play for in the competition. They are in danger of missing out on a spot for the 2025 Champions Trophy and would be desperate to win their last league game to remain in contention.

The top eight teams from the ongoing World Cup will qualify for the tournament. Bangladesh are currently at the seventh spot with 2 wins and 6 defeats. They began their campaign with a win over Afghanistan before losing six games in a row. They finally ended their losing streak with a fine 3-wicket win over Sri Lanka.

Shakib Al Hasan’s starring role:

Shakib Al Hasan led Bangladesh from the very front against Sri Lanka. After picking up 2 wickets, he played a fine knock of 82 runs to help his side chase down 280 runs inside 42 overs. Bangladesh were reeling at 41 for 2 before Najmul Hossain Shanto (90) and Shakib shared a 169-run stand for the third wicket. The Bangla Tigers lost some quick wickets towards the end but eventually crossed the finishing line with ease.

Angelo Mathews succumbed to the most bizarre form of dismissal on Monday during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. He was timed out as he failed to take his guard within two minutes of the previous dismissal and Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan didn’t miss the opportunity to appeal for this. Veteran Pakistan Cricketer Shoaib Malik however opposed Shakib’s action saying that if he was there in Shakib’s place, he would not have appealed for the same.

When Angelo Mathews came out to bat, his helmet strap was snapped as he was trying to adjust his helmet. He forgot to take his guard and asked for a new helmet but till then, Shakib figured out that he could initiate an appeal and get Mathews timed out.  “Shakib said that one of the fielders gave him the idea of time out. The fielder went to his captain when the strap of Mathews’s helmet snapped. Why did the fielder not do this within two minutes? Think about it,” Malik was quoted as saying on A Sports.

“Every captain has his own views, but if I was the captain, I would not have appealed. Helmet malfunction can happen to anyone,” Malik added.

Angelo Mathews Slams Shakib Al Hasan And The 4th Umpire

Angelo Mathews slammed Shakib Al Hasan and the Bangladesh team after the match and he was completely livid with the dismissal. He called their actions ‘disgraceful’ and said that he couldn’t believe that a team would stoop so low.

Mathews took to X and wrote, “The 4th umpire is wrong here! Video evidence shows I still had 5 more seconds even after the helmet gave away! Can the 4th umpire rectify this, please? I mean safety is paramount, as I just couldn’t face the bowler without a helmet.”

Angelo Mathews picked up two wickets in the match including one of Shakib Al Hasan but until then Shakib had incurred enough damage with his match-winning innings of 82 off 65 balls. Bangladesh won the match against Sri Lanka by three wickets while chasing a target of 280.

MCC issues statement on Angelo Mathews timed out
Angelo Mathews held the most explosive press conference of his career where he tore apart Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan and the Bangladesh team. He called their actions ‘disgraceful’. Mathews said that he had never seen a team or a player stoop so low in his prolonged career of 15 years.
He added that if his helmet strap was broken against any other team then this situation would not have been entertained but since it broke against Bangladesh, it was unfortunate.
This scathing criticism from Angelo Mathews was in response to Shakib Al Hasan’s appeal which led to Angelo Mathews being ‘timed out’ and becoming the first player in ODI history to be timed out. Angelo Mathews was given timed out during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match against Bangladesh, as he failed to take his guard within two minutes of the stipulated time. This meant that he was out without even playing a ball.
The ICC’s playing conditions law 40 suggests that the new batter must be ready to receive the ball within two minutes of a dismissal. Angelo Mathews’ helmet strap broke about one minute and 55 seconds after Samarawickrama’s catch was completed. Angelo Mathews hadn’t taken his guard yet and he was doing his final preparations to face Shakib.
“It was obviously disgraceful from Shakib and Bangladesh,” Mathews said. “If they want to take wickets like that and stoop down to that level, there’s something wrong, drastically.
“It’s a very disappointing way that Bangladesh played. If it was mankading or obstructing the field, there’s no issue. Within two minutes I was at the crease, and it was when I was at the crease that my helmet broke. The umpires saw this. I still had five seconds left. After I showed my helmet, the umpires said [Bangladesh] had appealed. So I asked where common sense was because my two minutes hadn’t passed.”
“I’ve got no words to explain it. In my 15 years of playing, I’ve never seen a team or a player stoop so low. Unfortunately [the strap breaking] happened against Bangladesh. I don’t think any other team would do that, because it was black and white. It was an equipment malfunction. It was a safety issue as well. We know that without a helmet I can’t face the bowling.”
When Shakib was questioned about this incident, he said that he had known Mathews from his under-19 days but he stressed the fact that ‘rules are rules’. Angelo Mathews said that his view of Shakib Al Hasan had changed in light of this ‘timed out’ controversy.
“Up to today, I had the utmost respect for him and the Bangladesh team,” Mathews said. “You all play to win. If it’s within the rules, it’s clearly fine. But in my incident today, within two minutes I was clearly there. We have video evidence and we’ll put out a statement later on – I’m not just coming and saying things here. I’m talking with proof. From the time the catch was taken to the time I walked into the crease I still had five seconds after breaking my helmet.”

Angelo Mathews Shares Proof That He Was On Time

The umpires asked Shakib Al Hasan to withdraw the appeal once Angelo Mathews explained the helmet situation to them. Shakib however, declined to withdraw the appeal and Angelo Mathews had to depart without facing a single ball.
“Yes, Shakib had the option of [withdrawing appeal]. He knew that this was not time-wasting and I was there within my time. I wasn’t trying to waste time or get an advantage.”
The Sri Lankan team refused to shake hands with the Bangladesh players after the match was over. Players from both teams exchanged tense words during the course of the match. Many players shook hands with the not-out batters of Bangladesh but they didn’t bother going to the Bangladesh dugout to shake hands with all the Bangladesh players.
You need to respect people who respect us,” Mathews said about the Sri Lankans not shaking hands with their opponents. “They have to respect the game itself. We all are ambassadors of this beautiful game, including the umpires. If you don’t respect and you don’t use your common sense, what more can you ask for?”
Angelo Mathews’ controversial wicket has raised a lot of questions about Shakib Al Hasan’s spirit of the game but he was abiding by the rules. While some might consider this unethical, it can’t be denied that the rules suggest that a batter needs to be on the crease taking his guard within two minutes of the previous dismissal.

MCC issues statement on Angelo Mathews timed out

The Sri Lanka Vs Bangladesh match produced a controversial moment when Angelo Mathews was declared timed out as he failed to take his crease before the required time. However, the spirit of the game is being questioned here as Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan appealed for the wicket. This is the first instance in the history of ODI cricket where a batter was timed out.

Law 40 of the Laws of Cricket provides that an incoming batter must be in a position to take the guard or for their partner to be ready to receive the next ball within three minutes (2 minutes in ICC playing conditions) of the fall of the previous wicket. If the player fails to do so then the fielding team can make an appeal to the umpire and the batter can be declared ‘timed out’.

Angelo Mathews was coming onto bat at No. 6 after Sadeera Samarwickrama was out, according to the law the next batter is supposed to be on the crease in two minutes and Mathews was there ten seconds ahead, However, there was some issue with Mathews’ helmet and he signaled the dugout for another helmet and by the time he got his new helmet, Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan appealed for the wicket and somehow Angelo Mathews was timed out.

Angelo Mathews’ Sri Lanka Video Of Mankading Jos Buttler Is Being Surfaced

Talking about the spirit of the game, Angelo Mathews’ led the Sri Lankan team once Mankaded Jos Buttler and the video is being resurfaced for all the spirit of the game talks. In this case, Jos Buttler was initially given a warning by the bowler but when he again advanced from the crease, the bowler knocked off the bails and he was rendered out.

Shakib Al Hasan was asked twice by the umpire to withdraw the appeal but he refused to do so. Angelo Mathews also asked Shakib to withdraw the appeal to which Shakib said, “Look, Angelo, I know that it is very unfortunate but I am not withdrawing the appeal.” Shakib Al Hasan was told by a fielder that if he appealed now then Mathews would be out and he went for it.

Bangladesh has been already eliminated from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 but now they are fighting for a spot in the ICC Champions Trophy. They will face Australia in their last match of the World Cup and the Aussies will not go easy on them.

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir expressed disappointment over Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews’ controversial dismissal during the 38th match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Monday, November 6.

Angelo Mathews made an unusual exit when he became the first batter in international cricket to be dismissed timed out. Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan appealed for a timed-out wicket and stood by his decision despite the request from Mathews on the field.

The 36-year-old came to bat during the 25th over of the Sri Lankan innings after Sadeera Samarawickrama’s dismissal. However, he had to request a new helmet due to a broken strap. Umpires Marais Erasmus and Richard Illingworth ruled him out, following the rules.

Absolutely Pathetic What Happened – Gautam Gambhir

Following Angelo Mathews’ dismissal against Bangladesh, Gautam Gambhir took to his social media handle to express his disappointment and described the incident as ‘absolutely pathetic’.

“Absolutely pathetic what happened in Delhi today! #AngeloMathews” Gautam Gambhir posted on X (formerly Twitter).

According to article 40.1.1 of the ICC playing conditions for the 2023 World Cup, “After the fall of a wicket or the retirement of a batter, the incoming batter must, unless Time has been called, be ready to receive the ball, or for the other batter to be ready to receive the next ball within two minutes of the dismissal or retirement. If this requirement is not met, the incoming batter will be out, Timed out.”

Article 40.1.2 says: “In the event of an extended delay in which no batter comes to the wicket, the umpires shall adopt the procedure of Law 16.3 (ICC Match referee awarding a match). For the purposes of that clause the start of the action shall be taken as the expiry of the two minutes referred to above.”

Sri Lanka was bowled out for 279 runs in 49.3 overs. Charith Asalanka was the top performer, scoring 108 runs off 105 balls. The Shakib Al Hasan-led team chased the target with seven wickets in hand in 41.1 overs, securing their second win in the World Cup.

Angelo Mathews, Shakib Al Hasan dismissal

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan has justified his decision to appeal for Angelo Mathews’ wicket during the game against Sri Lanka at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Monday (November 6). The World Cup clash between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh was marred by Mathews’ controversial dismissal.

Mathews became the first player to be timed out in international cricket after failing to be ready to face the first ball within two minutes. While he managed to arrive at the crease in time, a broken chinstrap in the helmet meant he was not ready to face his first ball. As Mathews asked for a new helmet, Shakib Al Hasan appealed for his wicket and the umpires adjudged the Sri Lanka allrounder out.

Shakib Al Hasan justifies appeal:

Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Shakib Al Hasan justified his appeal against Mathews and also revealed how things unfolded during the incident. The Bangladesh captain revealed that one of his teammates asked him to appeal and he did not hesitate. The on-field umpires also asked him to reconsider his decision but he did not withdraw his appeal and Mathews had to walk back.

“One of our fielders came to me and said if you appeal now he’ll be out. Then I appealed and the umpires asked me if I’m serious or whether I am going to take it back. It’s in the laws,” said Shakib Al Hasan.

“I don’t know if it’s right or wrong. I was at war and I had to take a decision to make sure my team wins. Right or wrong, there will be debates but if it is in the rules I don’t mind taking those chances,” he added.

As far as the match was concerned, Shakib Al Hasan led his team from the very front and guided them to a hard-fought 3-wicket win. Asked to bat first, Sri Lanka were all out for 279 with Charith Asalanka scoring a century. In reply, Bangladesh crossed the finishing line in the 42nd over. Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 90 while Shakib Al Hasan scored 82 for their side.

Kusal Mendis

Sri Lanka skipper Kusal Mendis has expressed his disappointment over umpire’s role in Angelo Mathews‘ controversial dismissal during the World Cup clash against Bangladesh at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Monday (November 6).

Angelo Mathews was adjudged timed out for failing to be ready to face the ball in time after arriving at the crease. He walked out to bat in the 25th over and as he prepared to take guard, he found the strap of his helmet broken. The former Sri Lanka skipper removed the helmet and asked for another one from the dressing room.

The rule states that a new batsman should be ready to face the ball within two minutes. And as Mathews was waiting for his teammate to bring him a new helmet, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan appealed for a timed out. The umpires had no option but to adjudge the allrounder out. Mathews had a heated argument with Shakib as well as the on-field umpires but it did not make much of a difference as he had to walk off.

Kusal Mendis on Angelo Mathews’ dismissal:

Speaking at the end of the game, Kusal Mendis was asked about the controversial dismissal. In reply, the Sri Lanka spinner did not shy away from expressing his disappointment and stated that there were still 5 seconds left when he realised that the strap of his helmet was broken.

“It’s very disappointing – when Angelo came to the crease, there were 5 second left. Then he found out strap of the helmet came off. It’s disappointing umpires couldn’t step in and make correct decision,” said Kusal Mendis.

Talking about the game, Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka by 3 wickets to register a much-needed win. It was only their second win of the competition and came after 6 straight defeats. Asked to bat first, Sri Lanka scored 279 runs with Charith Asalanka playing a fine knock of 108 runs. In reply, Bangladesh chased down the total inside 42 overs with Najmul Hossain Shanto (90) and Shakib (82) starring with the bat.

The on-field umpires Richard Illingworth and Marais Erasmus had a tough day at the job during the 38th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 between Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh National Cricket Team and Kusal Mendis-led Sri Lanka National Cricket Team at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Monday, November 6.

There were multiple verbal fights during the match and a controversial dismissal of Angelo Mathews that ignited the spirit of cricket debate among cricket fans and experts.

After a couple of one-on-one fights, there was a fight involving multiple players after the 38th over of the second innings. Sri Lanka players Charith Asalanka and Charith Asalanka were engaged in a heated exchange with Bangladesh batsman Towhid Hridoy. Marais Erasmus was forced to step in to separate the players before the things got more bad and heated.

Watch – Marais Erasmus Tries To Separate Bangladesh & Sri Lanka Players As They Fight

In the end, Bangladesh won the match by 3 wickets to eliminate Sri Lanka from the semi-finals race. Notably, the Bangla Tigers were already out of the competition.

Shakib Al Hasan won the Player of the Match for his all-round heroics and speaking after the match, he said that they bowled really well in the match. He said:

“They are two important players (Mendis and Samarawickrama), lucky to get those two wickets. There wasn’t much for the bowlers, we bowled really well upfront. Spinners kept it tight. Both the spinners bowled really well. Bowling wins us more matches, fast bowlers were bowling really well up to the World Cup.”

Shakib Al Hasan further said that they weren’t able to perform up to the expectations in the World Cup, but were happy with their performance against the Lankan Lions.

“We couldn’t live up to our expectations but we knew that we can fight back, we had that mentality. We kept on believing and we kept on coming back and today it paid off,” Shakib Al Hasan said.

“The ground dimension helped as well, the shorter boundary, there was a lot of pace on the ball, so I just had to use the pace, luckily it came off and from there on I never looked back. (Best performance came a little late?) I’d agree with that, we could have been consistent, that’s one disappointment,” Shakib Al Hasan stated.

In what could be labeled as shocking scenes, the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team and Bangladesh National Cricket Team players avoided the customary post-match handshakes after the 38th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Monday, November 6.

The match between the Asian giants was filled with a lot of drama and verbal spats. The players of both teams were extremely charged up and made the job difficult for the on-field umpires.

The reason behind things not being well between the teams was the controversial dismissal of Sri Lanka all-rounder Angelo Mathews. The veteran player was declared timed out after Shakib Al Hasan’s appeal and it ignited the spirit of cricket debate.

Angelo Mathews faced some issues with his helmet due to which there was some delay in his readiness to face the bowler. The Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan had the opportunity to withdraw the appeal, but he refused to do that.

In the end, Bangladesh won the match by 3 wickets and many would have felt that it was finally the end of the dramas, but that wasn’t the case as the players decided to avoid the post-match handshakes, which is a tradition.

When asked about not shaking hands with Bangladesh players at the post-match press conference, the veteran Sri Lanka all-rounder Angelo Mathews said “We’ll respect them if they respect us.”

Talking about his dismissal, Angelo Mathews said that Shakib Al Hasan disrespected him and the game by not withdrawing his appeal. He added that the incident has led to him losing all the respect he had for the Bangladesh captain. He said:

“It was disrespect from Shakib Al Hasan and Bangladesh. If they want to play cricket like that, there is something wrong drastically. So disrespectful. I had a lot of respect for Shakib but he lost all now. We have video evidence we will put it out later”.

Maheesh Theekshana tried to stretch the game against Bangladesh as long as he could in the ICC World Cup 2023. The match 38th of the tournament took place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium between Sri Lanka and the Shakib Al Hasan-led side.

In the chase of 280 runs, Bangladesh were placed pretty well with 210/2. However, after that, Sri Lanka pulled things drastically well. They picked wickets in quick succession of time and made the match out of nothing.

Maheesh Theekshana too was part of it as he removed in form Mahmudullah. The spinner bowled a stupendous delivery. He fired a yorker at the base of off stump. The batter was late on it and the ball sneaked through. Here’s the video:

Mahmudullah scored 22 runs off 23 balls. After his wicket, Maheesh Theekshana chipped in once again as he removed Mehidy Hasan Miraz as well and put immense pressure on Sri Lanka.

Maheesh Theekshana bowled a full delivery around off stump. Mehidy Hasan cleared his front leg and lofted it down the ground but was caught. The batter managed just 3 runs. The bowler returned with the figures of 2/44.

However, his efforts went in vain as Bangladesh won the game by 3 wickets. Towhid Hridoy (15*) hit some lusty blows in the end and won the game for his team to keep their hopes alive to qualify for the Champions Trophy 2025.

BAN vs SL: In the future, we’ll have a good team – Kusal Mendis after Sri Lanka get eliminated from the tournament

Sri Lanka skipper Kusal Mendis talked about the loss his side suffered against Bangladesh. He admitted that they missed the services of key players in the tournament and they also played bad cricket. Speaking at the post-match presentation, he explained:

“Charith played a brilliant knock. But we were 30-40 runs short. Happy that some good young players coming through, and happy we have shown some promise in this tournament. In the future we’ll have a good team. We had injuries to main players, also did some mistakes. Had we played better cricket, we would’ve had a better chance. It’s very disappointing.”

Sri Lanka will play their last league match against New Zealand. The game will take place on Thursday (9th November).

World Cup Points Table After BAN vs SL

BAN vs SL: The 38th match of the ICC World Cup 2023 took place between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The Kusal Mendis-led side were eliminated from the tournament after they suffered a disappointing 3-wicket loss.

Asked to bat first, Sri Lanka were off to a poor start as they lost Kusal Perera (4) in the first over and then skipper Kusal Mendis (19). After that, Pathum Nissanka (41) and Sadeera Samarawickrama (42) stabilized the innings with their handy contributions.

The duo failed to carry on and lost wickets after good starts. But the real blitz came from the bat of Charith Asalanka (108). He slammed a vital century whereas Dhananjaya de Silva (34) played valuable hands as Sri Lanka ended with a fighting total of 279 runs. For Bangladesh, Tanzim Sakib picked three wickets.

Bangladesh too didn’t have a good start as they lost Tanzid Hasan (9) and Litton Das (22) early. But Najmul Hossain Shanto (90) and Shakib Al Hasan (82) batted staggeringly well and outplayed the opposition. It looked as if they would easily win the game but Sri Lanka pulled things back.

They removed quick wickets and left them tottering at 255/6. But Towhid Hridoy (15*) hit some lusty blows in the end and won the game for his team by 3 wickets.

Angelo Mathews, Shakib Al Hasan dismissal

The veteran Sri Lanka National Cricket Team all-rounder Angelo Mathews gave an epic “time to go” send-off to Bangladesh National Cricket Team captain Shakib Al Hasan in the 38th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Monday, November 6

Mathews was left fuming at the Bangladesh skipper after his controversial dismissal in the first innings of the match. Notably, the Sri Lanka all-rounder became the first player in the history of the game to get timed out.

Mathews expressed his anger on Shakib from the moment the Bangladesh skipper stepped onto the field to bat. As Shakib was coming in to bat after the dismissal of Litton Das, he passed some comments on the left-handed batter.

He came close to dismissing Shakib on the third ball of the 11th over but Charith Asalanka dropped a catch at short cover. However, the Sri Lanka all-rounder kept bowling well and eventually won the battle by dismissing Shakib Al Hasan.

On the first ball of the 32nd over, Angelo Mathews bowled a 121.8kph off-cutter to Shakib Al Hasan. The Bangladesh captain only managed to get a leading edge and Asalanka moved to his left from shortish extra cover and put in a dive to complete the catch.

As Shakib Al Hasan was going back to the pavilion, Angelo Mathews gave him an epic send-off by pointing towards his wrist and gesturing it was “time to go”.

Ian Bishop has made a shocking revelation about the timed out dismissal of the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team all-rounder Angelo Mathews in the 38th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh National Cricket Team at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Monday, November 6.

A controversial incident happened during the BAN vs SL clash, which ignited the ‘spirit of cricket’ debate. The veteran all-rounder Angelo Mathews came to bat after the dismissal of Sadeera Samarawickrama and he was declared timed out by the on-field umpires.

The all-rounder had faced some issues with his helmet after coming out in the middle and he soon called a substitute fielder with a new helmet. The umpires weren’t impressed with the time being wasted and they approached Angelo Mathews and had a chat with him.

That was when Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan decided to appeal for timed out. After a lengthy discussion, the umpires declared the all-rounder out and he was told to go back to the pavilion.

However, Angelo Mathews looked frustrated and he told the umpires as well as Shakib Al Hasan that there were some issues with his helmet. However, the Bangladesh captain didn’t withdraw his appeal. The all-rounder was out without facing any delivery in the match and this was the first instance of a batsman getting timed out in the history of international cricket.

Shakib Al Hasan Was Approached By Umpires Twice To Withdraw His Timed Out Appeal – Ian Bishop on Angelo Mathews’ Dismissal

While doing commentary, Ian Bishop made a shocking revelation about the things that happened in the middle. He revealed that the Bangladesh skipper was approached twice by the on-field umpires and they asked him whether he wanted to withdraw his appeal.

Ian Bishop added that the Bangladesh National Cricket Team didn’t listen to umpires and refused to withdraw his appeal.

“The umpires approached Shakib twice to see if he wanted to withdraw the appeal, and he said no. Twice,” said Ian Bishop on air.

According to the rules in place in the ongoing edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup, a batsman needs to arrive in the crease within 2 minutes after the dismissal of a batter and they need to be ready to face the bowler. If the batter doesn’t meet the requirements, he should be declared out by the umpires.

The Timed Out rules state: “40.1.1 After the fall of a wicket or the retirement of a batter, the incoming batter must, unless Time has been called, be ready to receive the ball, or for the other batter to be ready to receive the next ball within 2 minutes of the dismissal or retirement. If this requirement is not met, the incoming batter will be out, Timed out.”

In what was the bizarre incident, Angelo Mathews became the first batter in the history of the game to be given out timed out. The Sri Lanka batter bagged the dismissal during the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 game against Bangladesh at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

After Sadeera Samarawickrama got out, Angelo Mathews came out to bat. The batter however took a little extra time to come out. As he was about to take his guard, the strap of his helmet broke and he immediately called out for a new one. The substitute fielder came out running with a new helmet.

But in the meantime, Bangladesh appealed and umpires abide by the laws, and the batter was termed out. Angelo Mathews tried to explain something to Shakib Al Hasan but the latter didn’t withdraw his appeal. The umpires too weren’t convinced as he was given out.

The ICC World Cup 2023 playing conditions pertaining to “Timed Out” dismissals reads: 40.1.1 After the fall of a wicket or the retirement of a batter, the incoming batter must, unless Time has been called, be ready to receive the ball, or for the other batter to be ready to receive the next ball within 2 minutes of the dismissal or retirement. If this requirement is not met, the incoming batter will be out, Timed out.

As per the rules, it was out but had Shakib Al Hasan withdrawn the appeal it would’ve been not out. This, however, has yet again ignited the spirit of the cricket debate. Even commentators were left stunned after the dismissal.

Angelo Mathews himself was furious after the dismissal as he left the field in utter agony. He even threw his helmet in anger and was seen having a heated conversation with officials on the sidelines.

Angelo Mathews, Timed Out

Veteran Sri Lankan player Angelo Mathews was at the receiving end of a bizarre dismissal in the game against Bangladesh. The all-rounder was timed out during the 38th game of the ICC World Cup 2023 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

The Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi witnessed history being scripted. Angelo Mathews became the first batter ever in the history of cricket to get timed out. After Sri Lanka lost Sadeera Samarawickrama, the veteran batter came out to bat.

However, he made a small error as he brought the wrong helmet with him. The substitute fielder came running with a different helmet as the strap of his helmet broke and umpires weren’t pleased with it. In the meantime, Bangladesh appealed and following that celebrated the wicket. Angelo Mathews tried to explain something to Shakib Al Hasan but the latter didn’t withdraw his appeal.

Angelo Mathews also tried to explain things to umpires but the officials were bound to rule and deemed him out. As per the rules in the ongoing World Cup, “batter should be at the crease within 2 minutes of the dismissal.” The Sri Lanka batter walked out to the middle-late and then after that had issues with the helmet.

After he was deemed out, Angelo Mathews was furious. He was livid with the things happening in the middle. As he walked back to the dressing, he kept murmuring something and threw his helmet in agony.

Here are the videos of the full incident:

Angelo Mathews was dismissed without even facing a ball in the game. This sparked a massive controversy as Sri Lanka players in the dugout were seen having a chat with Bangladesh’s head coach. The two teams have had a history of indulging in a lot of battles. Earlier in the game Kusal Mendis and Shoriful Islam exchanged heated words.

BAN vs SL: MCC Rule on batter getting timed out; Angelo Mathews bags bizarre dismissal

The MCC rule book on the timed-out dismissal states: “After the fall of a wicket or the retirement of a batter, the incoming batter must, unless Time has been called, be ready to receive the ball, or for the other batter to be ready to receive the next ball within 3 minutes of the dismissal or retirement. If this requirement is not met, the incoming batter will be out, Timed out.”

Angelo Mathews’ wicket jolted Sri Lanka further as he would’ve been crucial for the team in such conditions. The island nation was left tottering at 135/5. The onus will be now on Charith Asalanka and Dhananjaya de Silva to take the team to the fighting total.
