  • Pakistan were awful on the field against Afghanistan.

  • Mickey Arthur w as angry at Pakistan's fielding.

The director of cricket of the Pakistan National Cricket Team Mickey Arthur was extremely furious at the poor bowling and fielding of his side in the 22nd match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against the Afghanistan National Cricket Team at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai on Monday, October 23.

Pakistan started their second innings poorly as the new ball bowlers were not up to the mark and the fielders were sloppy. The Afghanistan openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran made the most of the opportunities they got and smashed the bowlers all over the park.

Pakistan bowlers were indisciplined with their lines and lengths and were taken to the cleaners by the Afghan batters. Also, the vintage Pakistan fielding was on full display as they made some awful errors and gave extra runs to the batters.

Looking at Pakistan’s poor performance in the second innings, team director Mickey Arthur was left fuming. He gave disappointing reactions while looking at the bowlers getting hit for boundaries and the fielders doing a horrible job.

Babar Azam brought leg-spinner Usama Mir into the attack in the 11th over of the innings with the hope of getting a breakthrough, which he failed to provide. Also, he was smashed for a four on the third ball of his over and that was it for Mickey Arthur as he could not watch more and went inside the dressing room in anger.

Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat first in the match. They posted 282/7 on the board, riding on the fifties from Babar Azam and Abdullah Shafique.

During the mid-innings break, Abdullah Shafique expressed satisfaction over Pakistan’s batting performance and was optimistic about his team defending the total. He said:

“We have to be confident, it feels nice to be helping the team. We knew that the wicket will turn, they’ve some world-class spinners, we wanted to settle early and then kick on. Partnerships play a key role and we got a few good partnerships. We were looking for runs, we’ve got a good total to defend, we will try to bowl and field well.”
