  • Rashid Khan picked one wicket.

  • Afghanistan bundled out Sri Lanka for 241 runs.

Rashid Khan exhibited his class during the ongoing match 30 of the ICC World Cup 2023 against Sri Lanka. The leg-spinner bowled a peach delivery at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune and put his team at the top.

Rashid Khan made a mockery of Dhananjaya de Silva as he bowled a staggering wrong un to send the batter packing. It happened during the last ball of the 36th over as the batter was tied up in knots against the spinner in Pune.

Rashid Khan bowled a tossed-up delivery on the off stump that spun back into the right-hander. Dhananjaya de Silva tried to defend it but his bat was well in front of the body and that created a massive bat-pad gap. The ball went through that and went on to crash the stumps in the middle.

Here’s the video of Rashid Khan’s sensational delivery:

Dhananjaya de Silva scored 14 runs off 26 balls and his wicket left Sri Lanka tottering at 167/5. After his wicket, Afghanistan lost wickets early and were under pressure. Afghanistan after opting to field first has been spot on right from the start.

They have put great pressure on the Sri Lanka batters and have pickets at regular intervals. They are coming off the win against Pakistan and would be hoping to continue their winning run.

AFG vs SL: Rashid Khan returns with a figure of 1/50 as Afghanistan restricts Sri Lanka to 241 runs

Sri Lanka didn’t have a great start with the bat as they lost Dimuth Karunaratne (15) early. But after that, Pathum Nissanka (46) and Kusal Mendis (39) held the fort and kept their side in the hunt. However, Afghanistan bowlers made sure to keep building the pressure as they picked wickets at regular intervals.

Sadeera Samarawickrama (36), Charith Asalanka (22), Angelo Mathews (23), and Maheesh Theekshana (29) got starts but they lost wickets at crucial junctures. Fazalhaq Farooqi picked four wickets with the ball whereas Mujeeb Ur Rahman bagged two wickets. Rashid Khan and Azmatullah Omarzai also picked one scalp each as they wrapped up the Sri Lankan innings on 241 runs in Pune.
