AUS vs AFG, which was also the match 39th of the ICC World Cup 2023, took place at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Australia emerged victorious from the jaws of defeat, thanks to Glenn Maxwell as they won the game by 3 wicker and entered the semi-finals of the tournament.

Afghanistan opted to bat first and it was an inspired performance from their end. Ibrahim Zadran (129*) smashed a sensational century and carried his bat through. He held the one end whereas other batters played crucial knocks around him.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz (21) started the innings pretty well but holed out. After that, Rahmat Shah (30) added a valiant partnership with Ibrahim. Before Azmatullah Omarzai (22) and Hashmatullah Shahidi (26) played crucial hands as well for the team. However real blitz came from the bat from Rashid Khan.

The all-rounder came out all guns blazing and played a brutal cameo of 35 runs in just 18 balls. His effort powered Afghanistan to a gigantic total of 291 runs on the board. Josh Hazlewood was the pick of the bowlers for Australia as he returned with figures of 2/39.

Things didn’t go in the way for Australia at all with the bat. They lost wickets in clusters and came under tremendous pressure. Travis Head bagged a duck. David Warner (18) and Mitchell Marsh (22) showed positive intent but lost their wickets after the starts they got.

Australia lost wickets in no time and was left tottering at 91/7. Glenn Maxwell then did something unimaginable. He was down with pain but despite that, he kept his side in the hunt and won the game. The all-rounder scored 201* runs and helped his team win the game.
