India vs Afghanistan

On Tuesday, November 21, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) officially announced the schedule for the Afghanistan tour of India 2024, which be held in the month of January.

India and Afghanistan will be going head-to-head in January for the first time since their encounter in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. In the World Cup clash, the Men In Blue thrashed their opponent by 8 wickets with 90 balls remaining at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, riding on the sensational century from skipper Rohit Sharma.

The match also saw an extraordinary moment as the IPL rivals – Virat Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq – buried the hatches and ended their rivalry. The matter between the duo had started during IPL 2023 when they were engaged in a verbal spat and following the heated exchange, Naveen-ul-Haq was bombarded with the ‘Kohli Kohli’ chants wherever he played in India.

Coming back to the India-Afghanistan series, the Afghans are scheduled to play three T20I matches in India in their January 2024 tour.

Afghanistan Tour Of India 2024 Complete Schedule Revealed

The three-match T20I series between the two teams is set to be played on January 11, 14 and 17. The first match will be hosted by Mohali while the remaining matches are scheduled to be played in Indore and Bengaluru respectively.

Surprisingly, the upcoming series between Afghanistan and the Men In Blue will be the first-ever instance of these two teams locking horns in a multi-match white-ball series. Notably, Afghanistan and India have faced off each other numerous times in competitions organized by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and International Cricket Council (ICC), but they didn’t play any multi-match white-ball series.

Talking about India’s World Cup campaign, they dominated the entire tournament and were on a 10-match winning streak heading into the World Cup final. However, their streak ended in the summit clash as Rohit Sharma & Co. suffered a massive defeat against Australia and it broke the hearts of billions of cricket fans.

Afghanistan, on the other hand, also had an impressive campaign as they pulled off some of the most memorable victories. They defeated three former World Cup-winning teams – England, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka – but were unable to qualify for the semi-finals.

Here’s The Schedule For IND vs AFG 2024 Series:

Date Format Venue
11th January 2023 1st T20I Mohali
14th January 2023 2nd T20I Indore
17th January 2023 3rd T20I Bengaluru

Rahmanullah Gurbaz

Afghanistan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz has had a memorable ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign. The Afghans managed to pull off four wins out of nine matches in their World Cup campaign and Gurbaz scored 280 runs in nine innings with a massive strike rate of 98.94, including two half-centuries. Gurbaz always tried to give a flying start to the Afghanistan innings and he contributed to the team’s victory in almost every match.

Recently, he made a wonderful gesture just a day before Diwali when he went out at 3:00 AM in the morning to silently distribute money to the needy and homeless on the streets of Ahmedabad. A video of him silently keeping the money beside homeless people is getting viral for all the right reasons. Afghanistan was eliminated by South Africa in this World Cup but they won the hearts of all the Cricket fans with their performance and now with their gestures.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz, with his gesture, has lightened a lot of people’s Diwali who are underprivileged. This kind of empathy towards other people shows Gurbaz’s humbleness and he deserves every bit of success in his career. He would have received a lot of blessings from those people whom he helped with the money. These acts of philanthropy have a special place in everyone’s heart because Gurbaz did not want to boast about doing charity.

Watch- Rahmanullah Gurbaz Distributing Money To People

Afghanistan players always have a special place in the hearts of Indian Cricket fans. The likes of Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmed, Mujeeb-ur-Rahman and Mohammad Nabi, are all respected by the Indians and are always welcomed during IPL where Indian fans cheer for them wholeheartedly. When Afghanistan defeated England in this World Cup, a young boy from the crowd came to Mujeeb who was the Player of The Match in that game, and hugged him tearfully.

These moments of empathy, respect and love are what make Cricket a loveable sport and the gesture that Gurbaz showed should be remembered by Indians we should cherish this player. Rahmanullah Gurbaz will always hold a special place for this showcase of empathy and we could not thank him enough for this.

Former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik acknowledged the Afghanistan team’s impressive performances in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023. Shoaib Malik emphasized that Afghanistan had demonstrated superior cricket skills in the World Cup compared to Pakistan.

Both Pakistan and Afghanistan won four matches each in the league stage during the marquee tournament. The Hashmatullah Shahidi-led team concluded their World Cup campaign, while the Babar Azam-led team still has a mathematical chance of reaching the semifinals.

In this current World Cup, Afghanistan exceeded expectations by triumphing over three previous World Cup champions, such as Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and England. They had only secured one victory in the last two editions of the ODI World Cup in the 50-over format.

Afghanistan Have Played Better Cricket – Shoaib Malik

Speaking to A Sports, Shoaib Malik stated that Afghanistan showcased better cricket performance compared to Pakistan in the ongoing tournament.

“Afghanistan played better cricket than us. In my opinion, if we are just sticking with this World Cup then yes Afghanistan have played better cricket than us,” said Shoaib Malik.

The Afghanistan cricket team had an opportunity to reach the semifinals for the first time if they had won against Australia and South Africa. They lost to the Pat Cummins-led team despite having the upper hand for most of the match.

Maybe, Our Boys Looked Fatigued – Wasim Akram

Legendary pacer Wasim Akram agrees with Malik’s statement, hinting that the Pakistan team might have faced fatigue due to their continuous cricket schedule. Akram emphasized that Afghanistan seemed stronger, delivering a superior performance than Pakistan.

“Afghans looked stronger. Maybe, our boys looked fatigued because they were playing cricket continuously. Afghanistan cricketers looked better than Pakistan, there is no doubt,” said Wasim Akram.

The Babar Azam-led team will take on defending champion England in their final league stage match at the Eden Garden in Kolkata on Saturday, November 11. The Men in Green must beat the Jos Buttler-led team by 287 runs to secure a semi-final berth in the World Cup.

Afghanistan Beating Pakistan An Unforgettable Moment In ICC World Cup 2023: Jonathan Trott

Afghanistan coach Jonathan Trott is impressed with his side’s performance in this World Cup. The side won four of the nine games played in the tournament beating teams like England, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan.

They also had South Africa under pressure in their last league game before Rassie Ven der Dussen anchored his team to victory with an innings on unbeaten 76 chasing 245 to win.

Afghanistan had just one World Cup win across two editions of the World Cup leading into this World Cup. They lost all of their games in the last edition of the World Cup. In this World Cup, they won four games and certainly made a big impact in this tournament.

Trott lauded the players of his team congratulating them on a memorable campaign in the post-match press conference after their loss to South Africa.

“You know, a real good bunch of guys. I think they’re very proud, very, very proud of representing their side. And I enjoy that, I like that, when you’re proud of who you are and what you’re sort of representing with regards to the challenges to be able to become a cricket player and perhaps personal challenges in the past and able to put that to a side and for a common goal,” Trott said at the post-match press conference.

Win Against Pakistan Makes Everything Worthwhile: Afghanistan Coach Jonathan Trott

He further said that Afghanistan beating Pakistan for the first time in ODI cricket was the most memorable moment of their wonderful campaign. The Afghans came close to beating Pakistan in the Asia Cup earlier this year but then the dream became reality in this World Cup.

“There have been times, there’s been tough testing times for sure, but these four wins in this World Cup, the joy on their face beating Pakistan for the first time, that makes everything worthwhile. So that’s really a moment I won’t forget along with a lot of the other guys as well,” he further added.

Afghanistan further enhanced its reputation after qualifying for the Champions Trophy 2025. Afghanistan’s qualification in the Champions Trophy was confirmed after Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka in the World Cup 2023 on November 6, Monday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

Afghanistan ended their campaign finishing sixth on the points table. England who are currently placed seventh will get to six points even if they beat Pakistan and possibly ensure their qualification as well.

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly criticized the Afghanistan bowlers for their performance during the match against Australia in the ICC World Cup 2023. Sourav Ganguly highlighted that the bowlers aided an injured Glenn Maxwell by bowling within his hitting zone.

Glenn Maxwell single-handedly guided the team to victory against Afghanistan in the league stage match. The batter rescued the team from a challenging situation at 91/7 during the chase. He scored an unbeaten 201 runs while chasing down a target of 292 runs in Mumbai.

Glenn Maxwell Was Injured And Could Not Reach The Ball – Sourav Gangly

In a conversation with Kolkata TV, Sourav Ganguly emphasized that Afghanistan bowlers should have targeted Glenn Maxwell’s off-stump instead of bowling within his hitting zone. Ganguly felt Afghanistan missed the opportunity to exploit Maxwell’s limitations.

“Afghanistan bowled too straight to Maxwell, should have bowled at the 7th stump because he was injured and could not reach the ball,” Ganguly told Kolkata TV.

Maxwell formed an unbeaten 202-run partnership with Pat Cummins for the eighth wicket. The destructive batter hit 21 boundaries and 10 sixes despite physical discomfort. Australia successfully chased down the target with more than three overs to spare.

Ajay Jadeja Must Be Crying – Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly was impressed by Glenn Maxwell’s exceptional innings, calling it possibly one of the greatest ODI innings ever played. Ganguly mentioned that Afghanistan mentor Ajay Jadeja might be disappointed with the bowlers’ performance.

“Ajay Jadeja must be crying. They bowled too much into his pads. He was only standing and slogging. They had to bowl wide. Don’t want to take anything away from Maxwell. Probably the Greatest ODI innings you’ll see,” he added.

Ajay Jadeja was appointed as the mentor of the Afghanistan team for the World Cup 2023. The former India captain played a crucial role in Afghanistan’s success in the marquee event, with the team securing four victories out of nine matches in the tournament.

The Hashmatullah Shahidi-led team was on track to reach their first-ever World Cup semi-final. However, losses in their last two matches against Australia and South Africa led to their elimination from the prestigious tournament in India.

Azmatullah Omarzai

Afghanistan head coach and Former England Cricketer Jonathan Trott has heaped praise on Afghnaistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai and said that he will be anxious to watch the upcoming IPL auction when the all-rounder’s name comes up. Omarzai emerged as a significant player in the World Cup 2023. The 23-year-old all-rounder has scored 353 runs in nine matches and is Afghanistan’s second-highest run-getter in the tournament. He also showed his prowess with the ball, taking seven wickets in nine games.

In Afghanistan’s against South Africa on Friday, Omarzai showcased his brilliance with the bat by scoring an unbeaten 97 runs, his overall highest score in ODIs. Afghanistan won the toss at the Narendra Modi International Stadium in Ahmedabad and chose to bat. Afghanistan collapsed to 116/6 after being 41/0, but Azmatullah Omarzai was steady at one end remaining calm and composed, and was the lone warrior to fight the war against South Africa bowlers.

He took calculated risks, juggling between clean hitting and brisk running between the wickets. He was quick to capitalize on a missed run-out opportunity by Andile Phehlukwayo and punished him with straight boundaries. Omarzai also showed no regard for star pacer Kagiso Rabada, punching him through the covers with ease, and he took advantage of Lungi Ngidi’s ankle struggle, clearing the stadium boundaries effortlessly, making Ngidi’s day horrible. Lungi Ngidi gave 69 runs in 8.3 overs at an economy rate of 8.1.

Despite Azmatullah Omarzai’s valiant effort, Afghanistan could only manage to post a total of 244 runs. South Africa, on the back of Rassie van der Dussen’s brilliant 76, managed to chase down the target with 2.3 overs to spare, resulting in a victory for them after suffering a defeat against India.

Jonathan Trott Is Anxious To See Azmatullah Omarzai’s Name In IPL Auctions

Jonathan Trott said that there’s a lot of raw talent in Omarzai and praised his work ethic in the post-match press conference. The Afghanistan head coach has said he has been mesmerized by the way the all-rounder can strike the ball with such cleanliness and is hopeful that he will develop into an amazing player for the side. Trott said that he is anxious to watch the IPL 2024 auction when Azmatullah Omarzai’s name comes up.

“Well, there’s plenty of raw talent, but it’s the case with a guy like Azmat, very ambitious but also works incredibly hard, a good work ethic. And as a coach, when that’s already there, you know, that makes the job a lot easier,” said Trott.

“For Azmat, I’ve obviously seen him for a year and three months, four months, and I’ve always been amazed at how he can time the ball. We saw the other night, second, third ball, he hit Mitchell Starc over his head, or over mid-off even, for six. The same thing today, over mid-off.”

“And very rarely do you see players who are able to time the ball and the sound the ball makes when it comes off his bat. Very special talent and I think hopefully will only develop and become a fantastic player for Afghanistan. I’m anxious to watch the IPL auction when his name comes up,”  Trott concluded.

Afghanistan will remember their campaign in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Prior to this World Cup, Afghanistan had only one win to their name in World Cup matches but this time around, they were competent enough to beat teams like England, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. They almost beat five-time World Champions Australia in a thrilling contest.

Afghanistan Cricket Team

In response to the dilemma of Afghanistan’s Women cricket players, who were forced into exile following the Taliban’s resurgence to power in 2021, ICC’s CEO, Geoff Allardice put forward a stance that allowed The International Olympic Council (IOC) to hold the reins concerning Afghanistan’s involvement in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and not the International Cricket Council (ICC).

In October 2023, the IOC consented to include T20 cricket, a sport that has gained a lot of popularity amongst Commonwealth countries and younger audiences, in the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. The decision was influenced by the sport’s potential for expanding into markets such as the United States. IOC approved ICC’s proposal for a six-team format across both Men’s and Women’s contests.

The ICC and LA28 are aiming to establish a competitive structure and qualifying process for teams by 2025. The push for gender equality by the LA28 organizers is quite evident, given that the Olympics event typically features participation from both men and women in individual and team sports.

However, Afghanistan’s women’s cricket team is currently non-operational as it was dissolved after the Taliban came into power in August 2021. The majority of the significant players, 22 out of 25 contracted individuals, have moved abroad since the Taliban took the reign of power in August 2021. However, there is a probability that the Afghanistan Men’s Team will take part in the LA28 Olympics.

Afghanistan Recently Won The Silver Medal In The Asian Games

“In terms of the position of the National Olympic Committee of Afghanistan, it’s probably something for the IOC to be able to address more accurately than me. But I know that they (IOC) have been following the progress or the developments there. Our position on cricket and supporting our member in Afghanistan is not dissimilar to those of other international sporting organizations,” Allardice told BBC.

Afghanistan Men’s Cricket Team took part in the Asian Games which was held in Hangzhou, China. They won the silver medal in the Men’s 20-over Cricket event and were brilliant with their performance while the Women’s team didn’t take part in the Women’s Cricket event.

It is up to the IOC to make a decision regarding Afghanistan’s participation in the LA28 Olympics because Gender equality is a big concern, especially in the United States of America. After the Taliban dissolved the Afghanistan Women’s Team, Countries like Australia and England took a step to not play any bilateral series against Afghanistan in protest of gender equality in Cricket,

Against South Africa, they had their moment when they had the Proteas down at 139/4 chasing 246 to win with Heinrich Klaasen’s wicket. However, the lower-order chipped in with Rassie van der Dussen who scored an unbeaten 76 to take SA home.

South Africa National Cricket Team captain Temba Bavuma provided an update on his fitness after the victory over Hashmatullah Shahidi-led Afghanistan National Cricket Team in the 42nd match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Friday, November 10 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bat first in the match. They were able to post a challenging total of 244 runs on the board. The top performer for the side was all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai, who batted exceptionally well against the strong Proteas bowling unit. Omarzai, however, was extremely unlucky as he wasn’t able to complete his century. The all-rounder was left unbeaten at the score of 97 off 107 balls.

For South Africa, the right-arm pacer Gerald Coetzee was the top performer as he bagged a 4-wicket haul. Keshav Maharaj and Lungi Ngidi picked two wickets each while Andile Phehlukwayo got one wicket. Chasing the target, Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma provided the side with a good start and after that, Rassie van der Dussen (76) batted brilliantly to steer his side to a 5-wicket win.

My leg is sore, don’t know to what extent, it’s gonna have to be fine – Temba Bavuma

The Proteas captain Temba Bavuma faced some issues with his leg during the match against Afghanistan. He was seen hobbling while fielding in the first innings. Also, while batting he looked in extreme discomfort and wasn’t able to run properly.

Speaking after the match, Temba Bavuma said that he doesn’t know the extent of issues in his leg. He said:

“My leg is sore, don’t know to what extent, it’s gonna have to be fine. I had the option of coming off. I wanted to be out there with the guys. Opportunity for me to spend some time out in the middle. That’s what I felt was right at that moment.”

Temba Bavuma added that they will take a lot of confidence heading into the semi-finals after earning a win while chasing. Temba Bavuma also lauded Rassie van der Dussen for his fantastic innings.

“Winning is a habit, we want to take that momentum through. We batted second and to get over the line in that manner, that’s going to put a lot of confidence. Fantastic knock by Rassie who took ownership of the innings and guys batted around him. The wicket got better. We’ll take the win, take the confidence and the momentum that comes with it. We’d like to be playing here again. We have a big hurdle that we have to get over first that is Australia in Kolkata,” Temba Bavuma said.

ICC World Cup Points Table 2023: Updated Standings, Most Runs, Most Wickets After SA vs AFG Match 42: South Africa beat Afghanistan by five wickets to get back to winning ways.

Chasing 245, South Africa were off to a good start with openers Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock adding 64 runs for the first wicket before departing in quick succession. It was followed by a 50-run stand between Aiden Markram and Rassie van der Dussen before the latter departed. Van der Dussen, however, scored an unbeaten 76 to take the Proteas home.

Earlier in the game, a fighting knock of 97 not out from Azmatullah Omarzai helped Afghanistan recover from a precarious situation to post a challenging total of 244. Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz added 41 runs for the first wicket before Afghanistan lost three wickets in quick time to find themselves 3 down for 45.

It was followed by a 49-run stand between Omarzai and Rahmat Shah before the latter was dismissed by Lungi Ngidi for 26. The likes of Ikram Alikhil (12) and Mohammad Nabi (2) also failed to get going and Afghanistan found themselves reeling at 116 for 6.

The 200-run mark was looking like a distant dream at that stage. However, Omarzai stood firm at one end and got good support from the tailenders. The likes of Rashid Khan (14) and Noor Ahmed (26) came up with useful cameos to help their team post a 240-plus total. Omarzai’s 97-run knock came off 107 balls and contained 7 fours and 3 sixes.

Rashid Khan - Heinrich Klaasen

The Afghanistan National Cricket Team star leg-spinner Rashid Khan rattled the off-stump of the South Africa National Cricket Team explosive batsman Heinrich Klaasen in the 42nd match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Friday, November 10 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Heinrich Klaasen is regarded as one of the most dangerous batters in the world. He has the ability to play highly impactful innings and take the game away from the opposition single-handedly.

However, he wasn’t able to fire in the match against the Hashmatullah Shahidi-led side. The explosive batsman was back in the hut after scoring just 10 runs off 13 balls, with one boundary, leaving South Africa tottering at 139/4.

The champion leg-spinner Rashid Khan was the one to dismiss Klaasen as he removed the batsman in the 28th over. On the third ball of the over, he bowled a brilliant googly that landed on a good length just outside off-stump and then turned enough to beat Klaasen’s attempted cut and rattle the stumps.

Earlier, Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bat first in the match.

He also hit 7 fours and 3 sixes during his sensational innings.

For South Africa, the right-arm pacer Gerald Coetzee was the top performer as he bagged a 4-wicket haul. Keshav Maharaj and Lungi Ngidi picked two wickets each while Andile Phehlukwayo got one wicket.

Afghanistan cricketers Naveen-ul-Haq and Rahmanullah Gurbaz shared cryptic Instagram stories, seemingly mocking Pakistani fans. Afghanistan players’ response came after New Zealand’s five-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in Bengaluru on Thursday, November 9.

The Kane Williamson-led team secured a commanding win in their final league stage match, solidifying their place in the knockout stage. New Zealand’s victory virtually dashed Pakistan’s hopes of qualification for the knockout stage of the ongoing marquee event.

Pakistan And Afghanistan Almost Out Of World Cup Semi-Finals

Pakistan needs to defeat England by approximately 287 runs or within 284 balls to secure a spot in the semi-finals, granting them fourth place in the points table. This task poses a monumental challenge for Babar Azam’s team and seems nearly impossible to achieve.

Afghanistan also faces a formidable challenge to secure a spot in the World Cup semi-finals. Afghanistan requires a win over South Africa by a massive 438-run margin. Hashmatullah Shahidi and Co suffered a heartbreaking defeat against Australia in the last game.

Footwork No Footwork But – Naveen-ul-Haq

Ahead of Pakistan’s crucial match, all-rounder Shadab Khan mimicked Glenn Maxwell’s ‘no footwork’ shots during a training session. Following this and New Zealand’s victory, Afghanistan’s Naveen-ul-Haq and Rahmanullah Gurbaz shared cryptic Instagram stories.

Naveen ul Haq took to Instagram and posted a cryptic message. “Footwork No Footwork But. Program Abhy sahi se warh gaya,” Naveen wrote. Gurbaz later reposted the story and wrote, “Wargyaa.”

In their last game against Australia, Afghanistan had a rare opportunity to make history by reaching the knockout stage for the first time. However, Glenn Maxwell’s incredible batting performance, despite “no footwork,” single-handedly carried the Australians to victory.

Afghanistan will play their final league match against South Africa at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday, November 10. The Babar Azam-led team will face defending champion England in their final league match in Kolkata on Saturday, November 11.

SA vs AFG Match Preview ICC WOrld Cup 2023

The SA vs AFG ICC World Cup 2023 match will be played in Ahmedabad on November 10, Friday. The match is a must-win match for Afghanistan to stay alive in the semi-final race. South Africa, India, and Australia have already qualified for the knockout stage. The fourth spot remains with Pakistan, Afghanistan, and New Zealand needing to fight it out for the last spot. The match starts at 2 pm IST.

South Africa are heading into this game after their loss to India. having dominated most of the teams in the tournament, they were totally outplayed by the Men in Blue. They were bowled out for 83 chasing 327. Having reached the semifd, they will be very aware of their weaknesses as a team.

Afghanistan have been inspirational in the tournament, They have won four matches with winning three matches on the trot. They lost their previous one against Australia but are very capable of upsetting the Proteas. Their batting and bowling have clicked in unison in the matches that they have won and they need another good performance. Against Australia, they were unlucky as they dropped a few easy chances before Glenn Maxwell owned Wankhede.

The two teams have played just one ODI which was back in the 2019 World Cup. This SA vs AFG World Cup is a much bigger one with semi-final qualification at stake for one of the teams. The other team is also looking to bounce back after a disappointing defeat. Afghanistan have been the giant killer in this World Cup beating England, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka so far in the tournament.

SA vs AFG Match Preview– ICC World Cup 2023, Match 42

South Africa

Chasing has not been South Africa’s friend so far in this World Cup. They have lost both their games chasing with the batters performing well below par when they are under pressure to chase. Their loss to the Netherlands was a good indication of their strength as a team.

The average of the batters falls well below as compared to when batting first. South Africa will surely be tested by the Afghanistan spinners if they are asked to chase a score of above 250. It will be interesting to see how they cope up with the pressure.

South Africa Squad

Temba Bavuma (c), Gerald Coetzee, Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Marco Jansen, Heinrich Klaasen, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Lungi Ngidi, Andile Phehlukwayo, Kagiso Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi, Rassie van der Dussen, Lizaad Williams

Afghanistan

They have been the giant killers in the tournament as said earlier. They had just one World Cup win heading into this World Cup and in this edition alone they have won four. Afghanistan defeated big teams like England, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. They were unfortunate to end on the losing side against Australia.

Against South Africa, they have another chance to upset a strong side. They should back their batters to give them a score above 250 and then back their bowlers especially the spin trio to pose problems for the South African batters who struggled against the Indian spinners. They have a big chance to create another massive upset given that they bat well in their first innings. A competitive performance can be expected from them in this must-win game.

Afghanistan Squad

Hashmatullah Shahidi (c), Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Riaz Hassan, Rahmat Shah, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, Ikram Alikhil, Azmatullah Omarzai, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Abdul Rahman, Naveen ul Haq

icSouth Africa and Afghanistan go head to head in match 42 in Ahmedabad on November 10, Friday. The SA vs AFG match starts from 2 pm IST with this match being the last for the two teams ahead of the semi-finals. South Africa, India, and Australia have already qualified for the semi-finals of the tournament. One spot remains and there are three teams in contention including the Afghans.

South Africa led by Temba Bavuma are heading into this game after a shocking loss to India. They were bowled out for 83 chasing 327 to win. This was the third loss of their World Cup campaign. The Protea batters who dominated the other bowling attacks could not replicate the same against India. Having moved to the semis they would like to finish on a high against Afghanistan.

Afghanistan, on the other hand, are heading into this game after three consecutive wins. They defeated the Netherlands in their last game by seven wickets. The Afghans are sixth on the points table above Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. They lost to Australia in their previous game.

Given how the Protean batters struggled against the Indian spinners, Afghanistan with their spin attack will fancy their chances against South Africa. They would like to post a competitive total on the board batting first and put the opposition under pressure in the chase.

South Africa and Afghanistan have played just one ODI which was in the 2019 ODI World Cup in England. The Proteas defeated the Afghans by nine wickets in the match. The two teams have played two T20Is with South Africa winning both of them. The two teams are yet to play a Test match.

South Africa Playing 11 vs Australia – ICC World Cup 2023, Semi-Final 2

South Africa takes on Afghanistan in match 42 of the ICC World Cup 2023 on November 10 Friday. The Proteas and India have already qualified for the playoffs along with Australia after their win over Afghanistan. Afghanistan, on the other hand, needs to win this match to stay alive in the semi-final race. A loss knocks them out of the tournament.

South Africa have pretty much the second-best team in the tournament until their loss to India in the last game. The Proteas who dominated the other teams were tamed by India. They were bowled out for 83 chasing 327 to win.

Against Afghanistan, who have been the giant killers of the tournament so far they have to play with caution. Chasing has been their Achilles heel in this tournament so far. They lost both the games chasing and their opponents have been good at setting scores batting first.

It will be a nice battle between the Afghanistan spinners and the Protean batters especially their top order which has been in blistering form barring the India game.

The table toppers would quickly like to forget their performance against India and get back to their dominating best against the Afghans. They only played one ODI game against the opponents which was in the 2019 World Cup which they won.

South Africa can play the same side that they played against India also against Afghanistan. Given the kind of players they selected it looked their best XI heading into the World Cup semi-finals. Their batters just need to bat better and their bowlers bowl better.

De Kock will continue to open the batting for South Africa. He is the top-scorer of the tournament so far with 550 runs from 8 games including four centuries but scored just five against India. He would be eyeing his fifth ton in this World Cup against Afghanistan.

Temba Bavuma (C)

Bavuma will open the batting with De Kock. His role at the top is to give his team quick starts but he has not done that job consistently. So far in this WC, he has scored 122 runs from six games at an average of 20.33.

Rassie van der Dussen

Dussen will bat at three. He too is amongst the top-scorers in this World Cup with 366 runs from 8 games at an average of nearly 50. Against India, he scored just 13 off 32 balls.

David Miller

Marco Jansen

Jansen will bat at seven. He has played a few handy cameos and has taken 17 wickets from 8 games. Against India, he was very expensive going for 94 runs in his spell at an economy close to 10.

Keshav Maharaj

The SA spinner bowled a spell of 1 for 30 against India getting the most turn out of all the spinners. He has taken 12 wickets in 8 games at an average of 26.75. He will bat at eight. Maharaj is one away from 50 ODI wickets.

Kagiso Rabada

Rabda will lead the SA pace attack. He picked up 1/48 against India and overall has picked up 12 wickets from seven games at an average of 23.58. The next match will be his 100th ODI.

SA vs AFG Match Prediction- ICC World Cup 2023, Match 42

The SA vs AFG ICC World Cup 2023 match will be played in Ahmedabad on November 10, Friday. This is a must-win match for Afghanistan to stay alive in the semi-final race India, South Africa and Australia have already qualified for the semi-finals. Pakistan, New Zealand, and Afghanistan are in the reckoning for the fourth spot. The SA vs AFG match starts at 2 pm IST.

This SA vs AFG match is the last match for the two respective teams in the tournament before the semi-finals. Afghanistan having lost to Australia in their previous match needs to win this to stay alive in the qualification race. A win takes them to 10 points and keeps them alive in the tournament.

South Africa having dominated most other teams in this tournament are coming into this match after a loss to India. They were bowled out for a paltry 83 chasing 327 to win. They lost another game against the Netherlands while chasing. Thus the Afghanistan team should keep this in mind when they take on the Proteas in Ahmedabad.

SA vs AFG Preview

The match will be played in Ahmedabad which has been a high-scoring venue in this World Cup so far. Australia scored 286 against England in the previous match and won the match by 33 runs. A score between 260 to 280 will be a winning score and if Afghanistan manages to score above 280 batting first, they will surely put South Africa under pressure in the chase.

A loss for Afghanistan in this SA vs AFG match will end their campaign and dash their dreams of making the semi-finals. They won just one game leading up to this World Cup and in this World Cup alone they have won four so far. It would be some end to the league stage if they manage to upset the Proteas. They almost defeated Australia getting them down to 91/7 in a chase of 292 but were then blown away by a Glenn Maxwell double ton.

The SA vs AFG ICC World Cup 2023 match will be played in Ahmedabad on November 10, Friday. The match starts at 2 pm IST and is the last league game for both teams. South Africa, India, and Australia have already qualified for the semi-finals of the tournament. One spot remains and there are three teams in contention including the Afghans.

South Africa led by Temba Bavuma have played some brilliant cricket throughout the tournament. However, their momentum was halted by India in the last match as they defeated the Protas by 243 runs bowling them out for just 83 chasing 327 to win.

The Proteas batting lineup that scored heavily against the other teams could not replicate the same form with the bat against India as they came second. Against Afghanistan, they have another chance to score big notch up a big win, and possibly top the table.

SA vs AFG Match Details

Afghanistan on the other hand, won three consecutive games and lost to Australia in their previous game. They are still on eight points and have a chance to get to 10 points if they beat the Proteas. Seeing the Proteas batters struggle against the Indian spinners, Afghanistan with their spin attack should fancy their chances. They are led by Hasmatullah Shahidi who has led from the front with the bat and as a skipper. Their last win was against the Netherlands by seven wickets in Lucknow.

Afghanistan have backed their batters to chase targets in this tournament so far. They will need to restrict South Africa to a par score and then back their batters to chase the score down. The SA vs AFG contest is expected to be close with with semi-final qualification on the line for one team.

SA vs AFG Weather Report Live Today And Pitch Report Of Ahmedabad Stadium, ICC World Cup 2023, Match 42

Ahmedabad is all set to host the SA vs AFG ICC World Cup 2023 match on November 10, Friday. This is the last group game for both teams ahead of the semi-final. This is also the last game in Ahmedabad before the final on November 19.

The SA vs AFG match is a must-win game for Afghanistan if they are to stay alive in the race for the semi-finals after their loss to Australia. They have won four games in this World Cup having won just one including the last two editions. They are heading into this game after three consecutive wins and a loss to Australia in the previous match.

SA vs AFG Match Preview

South Africa have already qualified for the semi-finals along with India. They are heading into this game on the back of a loss against India. They were bowled out for 83 chasing 327 against the Men in Blue. Chasing has not been their biggest strength in this tournament and the Afghans should target that heading into this game.

South Africa have played only one ODI against Afghanistan which was back in the 2019 World Cup where they won by seven wickets in the DLS method. The two teams have played two T20Is with South Africa winning both of them. They are yet to play Test matches among themselves.

Afghanistan should be positive heading into this game and should bat first if they win the toss and try and score 250 plus at least. South Africa have lost two games in the tournament both while chasing and the Afghans should exploit that weakness. If they post a competitive total, Afghanistan with their spin attack can surely challenge the Proteas.

SA vs AFG Weather Report Live Today And Pitch Report Of Ahmedabad Stadium, ICC World Cup 2023, Match 42

The SA vs AFG match starts at 2 pm IST. This is the last game at this venue before the final. Scores of around 280 to 320 have been successfully posted at this venue. Chasing has been difficult as England found out in the last game against Australia.

Speaking about the weather conditions, the temperature in the afternoon will be around 35 degrees with hazy sunshine. In the evening, the temperature will be around 25 degrees while the haziness will stay intact. There is no chance of rain to play spoilsport.

Afghanistan Beating Pakistan An Unforgettable Moment In ICC World Cup 2023: Jonathan Trott

Afghanistan takes on South Africa in match 42 of the ICC World Cup 2023 in Ahmedabad on November 10 Friday. The match starts from 2 pm IST with the Afghans looking to seal a semi-final berth. South Africa, India, and Australia have already qualified for the semi-final.

This World Cup has been a memorable one for Afghanistan who have won four games in the tournament so far. They lost to Australia in the previous game in Mumbai in one of the memorable World Cup games ever played. The loss keeps them in the sixth spot as they still have a chance to make the semi-finals if they beat the Proteas and get to 10 points.

They are looking to create another upset and in the process book a possible semi-final berth. Afghanistan have beaten England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Netherlands, and Australia with the win against England and Australia coming in challenging conditions.

They have played as a team and played for each other. The match against Australia was set up by Ibrahim Zadran’s unbeaten ton and the bowlers followed suit to challenge the Aussie batters.

Knowing South Africa’s problems in chases, they should look to do something similar against them. Both of South Africa’s losses have come in chases and given how Afghanistan have played so far they can pull off another upset. Having beaten Australia and pulling off a major upset, they can afford to stick with the same side.

The race for the semifinal spot in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup is heating up. With Team India, South Africa, and Australia already booking their place in the semifinals, only one place is up for grabs.

As many as three teams are still in contention to make it to the World Cup semifinals. The teams are New Zealand, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. All of them have eight points from eight games and are only separated by Net Run-Rate. New Zealand are currently in the fourth spot while Pakistan and Afghanistan are occupying the fifth and sixth spot respectively.

All three teams can finish with a maximum of ten points. In such a scenario, the net run rate will determine the fourth semifinalist of the ongoing World Cup. None of the three teams can afford any more slip-ups as they look to join India, South Africa, and Australia in the next round.

New Zealand is eyeing its third semifinal in a row while Pakistan is eyeing its first since 2011. Afghanistan, on the other hand, is in contention to qualify for the semifinals for the first time in their history.

What if rain washes away the New Zealand vs Sri Lanka game?

Out of three potential semifinalists, New Zealand will be in action first. The Black Caps looked destined to make it to the semifinals of the 2023 World Cup after making a solid start before their campaign got derailed. They began their campaign with four wins in a row before losing four in a row.

The Kane Williamson-led side will be desperate to get back to winning ways in their final league game. A win in the final league game will all but secure their passage to the next round thanks to their superior net run rate. Things, however, could get tricky for New Zealand as their upcoming game against Sri Lanka on Thursday (November 9) in Bengaluru could be interrupted by rain.

Rain spoiled their chances in the last game too at the same venue when they lost the game against Pakistan by 21 runs (DLS method) despite posting a record total of 401. And rain could come back to haunt them once again. According to weather prediction, there is more than 70 percent chance of rain, with heavy showers likely between 2 PM and 6 PM.

There is a chance that the crucial New Zealand vs Sri Lanka game might get washed out. So how will things change in case of a washout as far as the semifinal race is concerned? Well if the rain is indeed washed out, New Zealand will finish with 9 points. In such a scenario, their fate will depend on Pakistan and Afghanistan’s games.

If any of the two teams win their last league game, New Zealand will be knocked out. If both Pakistan and Afghanistan lose their last game, New Zealand will progress. Additionally, if both Pakistan and Afghanistan win, the former is likely to progress due to a better net run rate.

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal has accused Afghanistan players of being arrogant during the game against Australia at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday (November 7).

Afghanistan were just three wickets away from registering one of the biggest wins in their cricket history but ended up suffering a heartbreaking loss. Batting first, Afghanistan piled up a competitive total of 291 for 5 in the allotted 50 overs. Opener Ibrahim Zadran led the charge with the bat by scoring Afghanistan’s first-ever ODI World Cup ton.

The bowlers put their team firmly in the driver’s seat by reducing Australia to 91 for 7. With the likes of Travis Head, David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Marnus Labuschagne, and Marnus Stoinis back in the hut, the game looked all but over for the five-time world champions.

Kamran Akmal on Afghanistan’s loss:

However, Glenn Maxwell had other ideas. The hard-hitting middle-order batter came up with one arguably the greatest ODI knock of all time to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat for his side. He smashed an unbeaten 201 runs off just 128 balls with the help of 21 fours and 10 sixes and shared an unbeaten stand of 202 runs with captain Pat Cummins who scored 12 off 68 balls.

Following Australia’s miraculous win, Kamran Akmal has said that Afghanistan players’ arrogance was one of the reasons behind their downfall. He stated that the Hashmatullah Shahidi-led side became arrogant after reducing Australia to 91 for 7. He also heaped praise on Maxwell’s knock.

“Afghanistan players got arrogant when Australia lost 7 wickets, which brought their downfall. But I have never seen an individual innings like the one which Maxwell played, it was unbelievable,” Kamran Amal said.

Meanwhile, Maxwell’s double-century is the first-ever ODI double ton from a team batting second and is also the first ever by a  batsman who was not opening the innings. He also became the first Australian male cricketer to score a double century in ODIs. The win over Afghanistan has also helped Australia book their place in the semifinals

AUS vs AFG

Former Pakistan cricketer Hasan Raza has maintained his stance over the ‘suspicious ball’ despite facing severe criticism. He recently accused the BCCI and the ICC of giving India different balls in order to help their bowlers get more swing than usual.

He had faced criticism from several quarters for his remarks. Former Pakistan bowler Wasim Akram slammed him too and asked him to not tarnish the reputation of cricket in Pakistan. And he was at it again after India thrashed South Africa by 243 runs last week. Following India’s huge win, Hasan Raza came up with another big claim, saying that the hosts are manipulating DRS.

And despite being criticized for his unusual remarks, Hasan Raza has maintained his stance over two different types of balls being used in the ongoing World Cup. He made his latest remark after Australia’s stunning win over Afghanistan at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday (November 7).

Hasan Raza on Glenn Maxwell’s knock:

Glenn Maxwell scored a sensational double-century to guide Australia to a miraculous win. He remained unbeaten on 201 runs off just 128 balls with the help of 21 fours and 10 sixes. Chasing 292, Australia were off to a disastrous start and were reeling at 91 for 7 before Maxwell and Pat Cummins shared the match-winning partnership.

The duo added 202 runs for the eighth wicket as Australia crossed the finishing line in the 47th over. After the game, Hasan Raza claimed that the reason behind Australia’s batters against Afghan pacers was that the ball they faced was not the usual one. He claimed that Afghanistan were given the same ball that is being used by Indian bowlers.

“The ball usually seams and swings. But the way Naveen bowled it, there were two slips in place, and they were world-class batters who were getting out. But again, when the ball lost its shine, runs started to come off Maxwell’s bat. You know the rest,” Hasan Raza told a local Pakistani TV channel.

“For the first 20 overs, it was the Indian ball, the ball hitting the pads, swinging, going to slips,” he added.

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra explained the reason behind Afghanistan’s loss against Australia in their league-stage match of the ICC World Cup 2023. Aakash Chopra empathized that Afghanistan’s fielding lapses impacted the outcome of the recent match.

The Hashmatullah Shahidi-led team scored 291 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, November 7. Australian destructive all-rounder Glenn Maxwell played an unbeaten innings of 201 runs off 128 deliveries, leading the team to a three-wicket victory.

Fielding Has Let This Team Down – Aakash Chopra

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra criticized Afghanistan’s fielding, emphasizing that it has been a consistent issue. Chopra pointed out that Maxwell’s catch had a substantial impact on the match.

“Fielding has let this team down. This has happened earlier as well and has happened again. It has become slightly frustrating that Afghanistan’s fielding is extremely ordinary. Otherwise, the team is playing extremely well. They lost but won hearts. They will think they lost an opportunity,” Chopra said.

“No one drops catches deliberately but this was a regulation catch, and after that, the match itself went out of their grasp. No one thought a catch would be dropped like that, or Pat Cummins would play almost 70 balls for just 12 runs, or there would be such a big 200-run partnership where one guy would contribute just 12,” he added.

Mujeeb dropped an easy catch at a short fine leg off Noor Ahmad’s bowling when Maxwell was 33. The Australian all-rounder was fortunate to survive two more opportunities, as Shahidi missed a difficult chance and overturned the leg-before decision.

I Rate Ibrahim Zadran Very Highly – Aakash Chopra

The cricketer-turned-commentator noted that Afghanistan could have aimed for more with the bat in the first innings. Chopra praised Ibrahim Zadran for becoming the first Afghanistan player to achieve this feat in the World Cup.

“Before all that, they reached 291 while batting. It seemed like 325 runs were also possible at one stage. They couldn’t pace their innings that well but Ibrahim Zadran became the first Afghanistan player to score a century on the World Cup stage,” Chopra further added.

“He did it against a good team and in a good fashion. I rate him very highly. I feel he is extremely organized. Rahmanullah Gurbaz gave a decent start and then Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi and Rashid Khan in the end, everyone hit. Rashid plays different types of shots.”

Afghanistan remains in contention for a spot in the semi-finals despite the narrow three-wicket loss. The Hashmatullah Shahidi-led team will take on Temba Bavuma’s team in their upcoming match in Ahmedabad on Friday, November 10.

Australia vs Afghanistan 2023 World Cup

The 13th edition of the ICC World Cup is currently underway. Over the years, the tournament has produced some absolutely remarkable matches. With so much at stake in a competition like the World Cup, the teams give it their all on the field.

And their determination and resilience have seen them stage some absolutely stunning comebacks in the games. The cricketing world has witnessed some unbelievable comebacks by teams in World Cups. From pulling off improbable chases to turning the situation around in remarkable fashion, these matches have left an indelible mark on cricketing lore.

Through this article, we are taking a look at five such games in the World Cup where teams defied all the odds to end up on the winning side.

5 Best Comebacks In World Cup History

5. England vs Zimbabwe, 1992

One of the greatest upsets in the history of the ODI World Cups took place in the 1992 edition when tournament favorites England locked horns against Zimbabwe. England were the runners-up of the last edition and had won 5 of their first 7 games (1 game was washed out). Zimbabwe, on the other hand, had lost all of their seven games.

England were widely expected to win the game and their win looked more than likely when they bowled out the African outfit for a paltry total of 134 runs. Ian Botham and Richard Illingworth picked up 3 wickets each to put England in the driver’s seat.

Zimbabwe, however, were determined to bow out of the World Cup with a win and they went on to produce one of the greatest comebacks in the World Cups. Eddo Brandes dismissed Graham Gooch on the very first ball and England kept losing wickets at regular intervals after that. They were eventually bowled out for 125 runs to lose the game by 9 runs.

4. Scotland vs Afghanistan, 2015

Scotland were expected to beat Afghanistan when they played against each other in the 2015 World Cup. While Scotland were playing their third World Cup, Afghanistan were appearing in the competition for the very first time.

Afghanistan, however, put themselves in the driver’s seat by bowling out Scotland for 210 runs. Shapoor Zadran picked up 4 wickets while Dawlat Zadran took 3. They began their chase on a good note too as the openers added 42 runs for the first wicket before Scotland hit back by taking a flurry of wickets. In no time, they reduced Afghanistan to 97 for 7.

With more than 100 runs still needed, the game looked all but over for the tournament debutants. However, their no.4 batsman Samiullah Shenwari came up with a brilliant knock to help his side stage a remarkable comeback. He scored 96 runs before losing his wicket when his team needed 18 runs. Scotland were still in the driver’s seat but Afghanistan’s tailenders managed to guide their team to a historic win.

3. Australia vs England, 2003

Australia vs England 2003 World Cup

Any match between bitter rivals Australia and England hardly disappoints and the game between them in the 2003 World Cup was not an exception either. Batting first, England were well placed at 72 for 1 before suffering an inexplicable collapse that saw them getting reduced to 87 for 5. Alec Stewart (46) and Andrew Flintoff (45) then helped England post a respectable total of 204 for 8.

Andy Bichel was the destructor-in-chief with the ball, taking a career-best 7 for 20 off his 10 overs. Australia were expected to register a comfortable win but England had other ideas. Andy Caddick rocked their top-order with a 4-wicket haul and the reigning champions found themselves reeling at 48 for 4.

Darren Lehmann and Michael Bevan steadied the ship and took the score past the 100-run mark but Australia suffered another collapse and saw them getting reduced to 135 for 8. But Bevan and Bichel shared an unbeaten stand of 73 runs to take Australia home against all the odds.

2. India vs Zimbabwe 1983:

India had their back against the wall after losing two games in a row when they locked horns against Zimbabwe in the must-win clash to keep their campaign alive. However, the top-order batters failed to live up to the expectations. India were reeling at 17 for 5 and were looking destined to suffer a humiliating defeat.

But captain Kapil Dev was not ready to throw in the towel yet. The legendary allrounder came up with one of the greatest ODI knocks of all time to propel India to 266 for 8. He smashed an unbeaten 175 off just 138 balls with the help of 16 fours and 6 sixes. India then bowled out Zimbabwe for 235 before going on to win the World Cup as well.

1. Australia vs Afghanistan 2023:

While Afghanistan had already defeated England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the Netherlands in the competition, not many were expecting them to beat five-time world champions Australia who were on a five-match winning streak. But Afghanistan did not put a foot wrong for most part of the game and were looking destined to register another historic win before a monumental effort from Glenn Maxwell powered Australia to a famous win.

Batting first, Afghanistan posted a competitive total of 291 for 5 in the allotted 50 overs with opener Ibrahim Zadran scoring a sublime century. In reply, Australia made a disastrous start and were reeling at 91 for 7. Their chances of winning the game looked as good as over. However, Maxwell had other ideas.

The hard-hitting batsman struggled with a back injury and cramp and went on to play a historic knock of 201 not out to take his team home in the 47th over. He shared an unbeaten partnership of 202 runs with captain Pat Cummins who scored 12 off 68 balls. He became the first Australian to score an ODI double-century and also the first in the world to do so while chasing.

Afghanistan is still in the semi-final race despite the three-wicket loss against Australia in their recent match in the ICC World Cup 2023. Afghanistan has the opportunity to advance to the knockout stages of the event if the results of upcoming matches are in their favor.

The Hashmatullah Shahidi-led team suffered a heartbreaking loss in their penultimate group stage match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, November 7. They failed to defend a target of 292 runs despite having the upper hand for the majority of the game.

Afghanistan Bowlers Fail To Pick Last Three Wickets Against Australia

The Afghan team put up a total of 291 runs after opting to bat first. Young opener Ibrahim Zadran scored 129 runs off 143 balls, including eight boundaries and three sixes. All-rounder Rashid Khan played a cameo knock in the last overs, scoring 35 runs off 18 deliveries.

The Afghanistan bowlers put pressure on the Australian batters by taking wickets at regular intervals. Australia collapsed to 91/7 at one stage, on the brink of defeat. However, Afghanistan failed to seize the opportunity to secure a spot in the top four of the table.

How Afghanistan Can Qualify For Semi-Final Stage Of World Cup 2023

India, South Africa, and Australia have secured their places in the knockout stage. Afghanistan is in contention for the fourth spot with Pakistan and New Zealand. They are currently in the sixth position in the 10-team points table with eight points and a net run rate of -0.338.

Afghanistan needs to win their final league stage match, hoping that both New Zealand and Pakistan lose their matches. Even if New Zealand and Pakistan win, Afghanistan can still qualify by winning their last game and improving their net run rate compared to both teams.

The Hashmatullah Shahidi-led team will face the Temba Bavuma-led team in their final match in Ahmedabad on Friday, November 10. New Zealand’s remaining match is against Sri Lanka on November 9, while Pakistan’s last match is against England on November 11.

The right-handed batsman scored 129 runs off 143 runs. Towards the end of the innings, star spinner Rashid Khan also played a fine cameo of 35 runs from just 18 balls with the help of 2 fours and 3 sixes. In reply, Australia were in all sorts of trouble.

Ajay Jadeja’s antics in the dressing room:

Naveen-ul-Haq gave his team a solid start by dismissing Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh cheaply to leave Australia reeling at 43 for 2. And when Marnus Labuschagne walked out to bat, Ajay Jadeja did all he could to unsettle the Aussie batter.

Soon after walking out to bat, Labuschagne complained of his vision being interrupted by constant movement in the Afghanistan dressing room. And it did not really go down well with Ajay Jadeja who decided to respond by breaking into impromptu dance moves.

Ajay Jadeja’s actions might have worked for a while as Australia lost wickets in a heap to find themselves reeling at 91 for 7. With 201 runs still needed, the five-time world champions were staring down the barrel and were looking set to suffer their first defeat against Afghanistan.

However, Maxwell came up with arguably the greatest ODI knock of all time to power his team to a miraculous win. In an innings where no Australian player managed to score more than 24 runs, he scored 201 runs. Maxwell became the first Australian batter to score an ODI double century and also the first in the world to score a double ton while chasing.

He shared an unbeaten stand of 202 runs with captain Pat Cummins who scored 12 off 68 balls during the partnership. Maxwell’s 201-run knock came off 128 balls with the help of 21 fours and 10 sixes.

AUS vs AFG, which was also the match 39th of the ICC World Cup 2023, took place at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Australia emerged victorious from the jaws of defeat, thanks to Glenn Maxwell as they won the game by 3 wicker and entered the semi-finals of the tournament.

Afghanistan opted to bat first and it was an inspired performance from their end. Ibrahim Zadran (129*) smashed a sensational century and carried his bat through. He held the one end whereas other batters played crucial knocks around him.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz (21) started the innings pretty well but holed out. After that, Rahmat Shah (30) added a valiant partnership with Ibrahim. Before Azmatullah Omarzai (22) and Hashmatullah Shahidi (26) played crucial hands as well for the team. However real blitz came from the bat from Rashid Khan.

The all-rounder came out all guns blazing and played a brutal cameo of 35 runs in just 18 balls. His effort powered Afghanistan to a gigantic total of 291 runs on the board. Josh Hazlewood was the pick of the bowlers for Australia as he returned with figures of 2/39.

Things didn’t go in the way for Australia at all with the bat. They lost wickets in clusters and came under tremendous pressure. Travis Head bagged a duck. David Warner (18) and Mitchell Marsh (22) showed positive intent but lost their wickets after the starts they got.

Australia lost wickets in no time and was left tottering at 91/7. Glenn Maxwell then did something unimaginable. He was down with pain but despite that, he kept his side in the hunt and won the game. The all-rounder scored 201* runs and helped his team win the game.

Fans on Twitter reacted after Australian batter Glenn Maxwell slammed a magnificent double century in the ICC World Cup 2023 against Afghanistan. The all-rounder won the game for his team from the jaws of defeat at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Glenn Maxwell played one of the best innings in the history of the ICC World Cup and single-handedly won his side the  game when they were down and dusted. Chasing the target of 292 runs, Australia were 91/7 and it seemed that wouldn’t win.

But Glenn Maxwell had other plans. The all-rounder played a staggering innings and it’s fair to say that such kind of knock would be hard to witness again. The right-hander early in his innings was dropped twice but after that, he made sure that he made the opposition pay for it.

After being watchful initially, Glenn Maxwell returned to his normal self and took an attack to Afghanistan bowlers. He outplayed the spinners of the opposition and took them to the cleaners and hit them all over the park. He brought up his century in the 76 balls and after that, he cramped up badly.

Despite battling severe pain, Glenn Maxwell made sure that he gave everything for his team. He wasn’t able to move his feet at all but even after that, he hit big sixes without any foot movement. The all-rounder didn’t stop at all and played the best innings by an Australian batter in ODIs.

Glenn Maxwell brought up his double century as he scored an unbeaten 201 runs to take his team home. He played 128 balls and batted with a strike rate of around 158. He slammed 21 fours and 10 sixes in his innings to take his team to the semi-final of the tournament.

Australia opener David Warner and Rashid Khan share a great camaraderie between them. However, something different was seen during the ongoing game between Australia and Afghanistan in the ICC World Cup 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

David Warner was livid with something as he was seen getting furious. He was having a conversation with Rashid Khan but it didn’t seem like a polite talk. The opener was spotted saying some harsh words to the spinner, who was looking serious.

The incident happened ahead of the start of the 5th over. David Waner and Rashid Khan chatted for a while before the leg-spinner left the talk in between with a smile on his face. Here’s the video of the spat between the two players:

David Warner however perished quickly after that as Azmatullah Omarzai castled him. The southpaw scored just 18 runs off 29 balls with the help of three boundaries. After his wicket, Australia lost wickets in quick succession and came under tremendous pressure.

They were reduced to 91/7 as Afghanistan bowlers bowled exceptionally well. However, Glenn Maxwell has bailed Australia out of trouble and has slammed a magnificent century. The bowling team however gave him two lives as they dropped two catches of him.

AUS vs AFG: Rashid Khan Removes Marcus Stoinis and Mitchell Starc

Rashid Khan has been amongst the wickets as well in the ongoing game against Australia. He has kept things tight with the ball and is making sure that his side stays in the hunt in the all-important clash at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Rashid Khan first troubled Marcus Stoinis and then trapped him in lbw. He didn’t let the all-rounder settle at him and put them under pressure. After that, he sent Micthell Starc packing. The fast bowler scored just 3 runs off 7 balls. The Leg spinner would be hoping that he picks a few more and wins the game for his team.

“I am feeling great to score Afghanistan’s maiden hundred in (World Cup). I worked really hard for this tournament, I missed a hundred against Pakistan but made it today. I was talking to my coaching staff and I told them I have a feeling I will get a hundred in the next three matches. The wicket is looking good, ball is coming so well.

“If we had made good partnerships and kept wickets in hand, we would have scored 330 but we lost a few wickets and didn’t get the kind of partnership (we were looking for) but Rashid played well in the end. We have a plan for every opposition and it was our aim to put this score. We will try to bowl and field well.”

Coming to the match between Australia and Afghanistan, the Hashmatullah Shahidi-led opted to bat first after winning the toss. They have produced a decent batting performance and keep their hopes alive in the tournament.

He has slammed over 530 runs in 8 innings and with the way he’s batting, it won’t be a surprise if he ends up breaking the record of Sachin Tendulkar. Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has praised Afghanistan’s outstanding performances in the World Cup 2023, considering them the standout team in the tournament. Aakash Chopra described Afghanistan as a formidable and competent team in the competition.

Afghanistan began the ongoing marquee event with consecutive losses to Bangladesh and India. However, the Hashmatullah Shahidi-led team bounced back with four wins in their next five matches, including victories against England, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

Afghanistan Are Playing Extremely Well – Aakash Chopra

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra praised the Afghan team’s capability to chase and set targets effectively. Chopra pointed out that they have been successful in defeating the tournament’s title contenders.

“Afghanistan have a lot to play for, all to play for. They are playing extremely well. In my opinion, they are the team of the tournament thus far, the way they have played. They have won while chasing and done well while setting targets as well,” Chopra said.

“They have been able to knock down big-big teams. They knocked down Pakistan and England. They defeated Sri Lanka as though they had come for timepass. They also said tata bye-bye to the Netherlands. So. it’s a very decent team,” he added.

The Afghan team is currently in 6th place in the 10-team points table. They have 8 points with a Net Run Rate (NRR) of -0.330. If they win their next two matches, they will advance to the semi-finals for the first time.

You Can Play Noor Ahmad – Aakash Chopra

The cricketer-turned-commentator suggested that Afghanistan should include Noor Ahmad in their playing XI against Australia. He also noted that it is a critical game for Australia to secure their spot in the semi-finals.

“I would say you can play Noor Ahmad because you can only stop Australia with spin but the scales are tilted towards Australia. Australia also know that qualification is on the line.”

“They can finish either second or third, neither can they go to No. 1 nor will they finish at No. 4. So if they win this match, they can keep the qualification aside and relax a little. If they win this match, a ‘Q’ will be written in front of their name.”

Afghanistan will lock horns with the Pat Cummins-led team in their upcoming match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, November 7.

Naveen-ul-Haq while taking a jibe at the Australia cricket team said what excuse will they give now as their next in the World Cup is against Afghanistan and it is very crucial for them. Afghanistan and Australia will take on each other Tuesday (7th November) at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

For unversed, Australia and Afghanistan were scheduled to play three ODIs earlier this year in UAE. But Cricket Australia pulled out of the series after the Taliban imposed further restrictions on women’s and girls’ rights. This created a lot of controversy and also saw five-time champions receiving a lot of criticism.

After that, Naveen-ul-Haq and Rashid Khan pulled out of the Big Bash League. With the drama between the two teams, it’ll be an exciting contest to watch as both teams will be up against each other in the crucial game of the ICC World Cup 2023.

Both Australia and Afghanistan have a fair chance to qualify for the semi-finals. They would be eager to win and a victory might bring them even closer to the semi-final spot in the World Cup.

The Hashmatullah Shahidi-led Afghanistan National Cricket Team hammered the Scott Edwards-led Netherlands National Cricket Team in the 34th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Friday, November 3.

The Netherlands won the toss and elected to bat first in the match. They displayed an extremely poor performance as after being at 92/2 at one stage they faced a shocking collapse and got bundled out for 179.

Chasing the small target, Hashmatullah Shahidi (56) and Rahmat Shah (52) hit brilliant half-centuries to complete the run-chase. Afghanistan won the match by 7 wickets with 111 balls remaining.

Speaking after the match, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Afghanistan said that he was equally satisfied with the performances of bowlers and batters. He said:

“(What pleased him more between their batting and bowling performance) I can say both. We bowled well but the run-chase is good. Third consecutive time that we have chased down a target successfully.”

I want to dedicate this win to them, who are in pain, and to everyone back home – Hashmatullah Shahidi

Hashmatullah Shahidi added that they are still aiming to qualify for the semi-finals and said that it will be a very big achievement for Afghanistan. He further dedicated the win to the Afghan refugees, who are being forced to leave Pakistan.

“(On dreaming about the semi-final) Of course, 100% We are trying our best to make it to the semi final and if it happens, it will be a big achievement for the country. Lost my mother three months ago and my family is in a lot of pain, it will be a big achievement (to reach the semi-final), first of all for the country, but also for my family.

“(Message to the people back home) Right now, a lot of refugee people are struggling. We are watching their videos and we are sad for them. We are with them in these tough times and I want to dedicate this win to them, who are in pain, and to everyone back home.”

Reportedly, 600,000 Afghans fled to Pakistan since the Taliban’s ascension to power in 2021. Recently the Pakistani government ordered the Afghan refugees to go back home and threatened to arrest them, setting November 1 as the deadline for undocumented Afghan refugees to leave the country.

Meanwhile, Hashmatullah Shahidi further lauded Mohammad Nabi, who won the Player of the Match award, saying that he is a special player.

“(Run-chases and why it brings out the best in them) We are looking at the board and at the target of the opposition team. We are playing accordingly, and we are achieving for our team,” Hashmatullah Shahidi said.

“(On Nabi) He is a special player. He always shows his talent. Whenever the team needs him, he takes responsibility, like he did today. We are all very united at this World Cup. We are enjoying our wins, and all of them are thinking aboutwinning.”

ICC World Cup Points Table 2023: Updated Standings, Most Runs, Most Wickets After NED vs AFG match: Afghanistan, on Friday (November 3), thrashed the Netherlands by 7 wickets at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium to move to the fifth spot in the points table.

Chasing a modest total of 180 runs, Afghanistan made a shaky start and lost both of their openers – Rahmanullah Gurbaz (10) and Ibrahim Zadran (20) – cheaply. However, veteran batter Rahmat Shah and captain Hashmatullah Shahidi steadied the ship and laid the foundation for a successful chase by adding 74 runs for the third wicket.

Saqib Zulfiqar broke the stand by dismissing Shah for 52. Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai then ensured that their team crossed the finishing line without suffering any further hiccups. The duo shared an unbeaten stand of 52 runs as Afghanistan crossed the finishing line in the 32nd over to register their fourth win of the tournament.

Earlier, the Netherlands won the toss and opted to bat first but failed to justify the decision. The Scott Edwards-led side was bowled out for a modest total of 179 runs inside 47 overs. Four of their top five batters were run out during the poor bowling display.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman gave his side the perfect start by dismissing Wesley Barresi for just 1 in the first over. It was followed by a 70-run stand between Max O’Dowd and Colin Ackermann before the former was run out for 42. 19 runs later, Ackermann was run-out for 29 and it triggered a collapse that saw the Netherlands getting reduced to 97 for 5 from 92 for 2.

With wickets falling at regular intervals, the innings never really got the impetus. At one stage, even the 150-run mark was looking like a distant dream but Sybrand Engelbrecht stood firm at one end and scored a fighting fifty to help his team post a respectable total.
