Former cricketer Shreevats Goswami criticised Indian skipper Rohit Sharma fit his ultra-aggressive approach in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023. He said that the Indian captain didn’t have to do that against Australia and should’ve taken his time and pushed the team to a big total.

Rohit Sharma continued his aggressive approach even in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023. The right-hander took the attack to the bowlers and gave his team a brutal start yet again. Even though the team lost Shubman Gill (4) early, he continued batting the same way.

Rohit Sharma took Australian bowlers to the cleaners and made sure that his team scored over 80 runs in the powerplay. The Indian skipper got out in the 10th over as he tried to take on Glenn Maxwell despite scoring 10 runs in the over earlier.

Shreevats Goswami highlighted that Rohit Sharma scored freely throughout the entire tournament because of Virat Kohli. But in a game like the final, he should’ve tried to score big as he was set. Taking to his X account, he explained:

“While everyone is going ga ga over Rohit Sharma’s intent ! It’s brilliant ,but he can play that way cause he knows there’s Virat to score big , but he can’t in every game can he ? That is why specially in ODI cricket when you have time & you are set , you need to score big & today was a huge opportunity!! India somehow need to get past 250 here.”

Rohit Sharma scored 47 runs off 31 balls in the big final. He batted with a strike rate of 151.61 and also smashed 4 fours and 3 sixes in his innings. His rollicking start made sure India got over 80 runs in the powerplay.
