Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has said that the ICC World Cup 2023 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is Australia’s to lose.

On a pitch that has been difficult to bat, India were bundled out for 240 runs. India had a great start with as Rohit Sharma (47) batted aggressively in the start and added 30 runs partnership with Shubman Gill, who scored just 4 runs. After the first wicket, Virat Kohli (51) stepped in and played well.

But skipper Rohit Sharma perished while trying to take on bowlers. After his wicket, India lost Shreyas Iyer (4) as well and were in trouble. KL Rahul (66) then played a vital hand but he didn’t get the desired support at the other end as Australian bowlers chipped in with wickets at regular intervals.

A vital hand from Suryakumar (18) in the end powered India to a total of 240 runs. For Australia, Mitchell Starc picked three wickets whereas Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins bagged two scalps each.

Kevin Pietersen feels that it’ll be Australia’s game to lose. He said that if the target was between 270 and 290 then it could’ve been a big task. Taking to his X account, he explained:

“This is Australia’s to lose. The batters will be sitting in the rooms thinking 240 in 300 balls with two new balls and power plays shouldn’t be difficult… 270/290 would have me as a batter thinking something different.”

IND vs AUS: India has to take every single chance – Kevin Pietersen

India dropped the catch of David Warner on the first ball of the second innings. The ball went between the two slip fielders and went for four. Thankfully, it didn’t cost India much as Mohammed Shami in the very next over removed the Australia opener.

Australia have come out with a positive mindset and is trying to score runs quickly. The game is keeping everyone on the edge. Kevin Pietersen said that to win the game, India needs to take every chance that comes their way. He stated:

“India has to take EVERY SINGLE HALF CHANCE. Let’s watch…”
