Australian spinner Adam Zampa got into a league of his own in the World Cup final against India in Ahmedabad. India scored 240/9 and Australia now need 241 runs to win the final and lift their sixth World Cup title.

Zampa bowled a spell of 1/44 in the final while the pacers took most of the wickets. The Aussie pacers took seven wickets with Mitchell Starc taking three, Josh Hazlewood two, and skipper Pat Cummins two.

Zampa and Maxwell picked up one wicket each. While Maxwell picked up the big wicket of Rohit Sharma, Zampa picked up Jasprit Bumrah. That was the only wicket he took in the innings taking his wickets tally to 23 wickest in the tournament.

In the process, Zampa equaled former Sri Lanka spinner Muttish Muralitharan as the spinner with the most wickets in a single World Cup edition. He and Muttiah Muralitharan both are tied with 23 wickets.

Brad Hogg (21), Shahid Afridi (21), and Shane Warner (20) are the other spinners to take 20 or more wickets in a single edition of a World Cup. Warne took 20 wickets in 1999, Hogg took 21 wickets in 2007, and Afridi took 21 wickets in 2011.

Zampa is the least experienced among all the spinners. The rest of the names are world class with Muralitharan and Warne, being the names that stand out. Shahid Afridi and Brad Hogg have been good spinners of their generation.

Mohammed Shami is leading the wicket-taking race with 24 wickets from just seven games. He picked up the wicket of David Warner to bring India back into the game after Bumrah conceded 15 in the first over.

India scored 240/9 after being put into bat first. Batting was a real struggle in the first innings with the pitch showing signs of slowing down early on. Australia are looking for their sixth World Cup title while India is their third.
