India National Cricket Team head coach Rahul Dravid spoke about his future with the team following a heartbreaking loss in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, November 19.

The Rohit Sharma & Co. entered the final with a 10-match winning streak, but nothing went in their favor on the day which mattered the most. The flying high India suddenly looked dull and they faced a crushing 6-wicket defeat at the hands of the Pat Cummins-led Australia.

Losing the toss and batting first, India posted a low total of 240 runs on the board, with KL Rahul being the top scorer for his side. Defending the target, Indian bowlers reduced the Aussies to 47/3, but centurion Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne took the game away from India. In the end, the Aussies won the match by 6 wickets with 42 balls remaining.

India National Cricket Team head coach Rahul Dravid attended the post-match press conference after the defeat and was asked about his future with the team. To this, Rahul Dravid responded that he hadn’t thought about it. He said:

“I haven’t thought about it. I have had no time to reflect on this. I will, when I get time. I was just focused on this World Cup.”

India’s next assignment is a T20I series against Australia and it will begin just a few days after the World Cup. Reportedly, VVS Laxman will be the head coach of the team for the series as the Rahul Dravid-led coaching staff is likely to be rested.

Tough day at the office, really proud of the quality of cricket we played right through – Rahul Dravid

Rahul Dravid, while talking about the match, said that they had a really tough day at the office. He said:

“Tough day at the office, really proud of quality of cricket we played right through. We ran a really good campaign. Australia were better than us, congratulations to him.”

Rahul Dravid added that they were 30-40 runs short in the match as a score of 280-290 would have made a massive difference. Rahul Dravid said:

“We were 30-40 runs short. They bowled really well. The ball was stopping in the afternoon. There was not a lot of dew but it came better under the lights. We didn’t get those boundaries and kept losing wickets at critical intervals. If he had got to 280-290, it would have been a different game. They batted really well. Travis Head batted exceptionally well.”
