During the post-match handshake, Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell had a special exchange. Kohli gifted his signed jersey to the Australian all-rounder before the presentation ceremony. The ICC captured the moment and shared the pictures on its social media handle.

“Respect and admiration,” the ICC Cricket World Cup tweeted.

Virat scored 54 runs off 63 deliveries as the Indian national cricket team posted a total of 240 in 50 overs. The right-handed batter attempted to play a defensive shot off Australia skipper Pat Cummins, but unfortunately, the ball took an inside edge and hit the stumps.

Skipper Rohit Sharma (47 off 31) and KL Rahul (66 off 107) played pivotal roles for India on a challenging batting surface. Mitchell Starc picked up three wickets for 55 to restrict the opposition to a low score. Maxwell picked up the crucial wicket from Rohit in his six overs.

India’s pacers initially put Australia on the back foot at 47/3 in seven overs, showcasing exceptional skill with the new ball. However, Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne staged a remarkable comeback for Australia, forming a 192-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Head played an outstanding knock of 137 runs off 120 deliveries, featuring four sixes and 15 boundaries, while Labuschagne contributed unbeaten on 58. The Australian cricket team reached the target in 43 overs, and Maxwell sealed the victory by hitting the winning runs.

Cummins became the fifth Australian skipper to lead the team to a title victory in the ODI World Cup. Allan Border (1987), Steve Waugh (1999), Ricky Ponting (2003 and 2007), and Michael Clarke (2015) achieved in the past. They failed to reach the final in the last edition.
