Mighty mighty heartbreak last night. Everyone in the team had several days to remember during this campaign and special mentions to @imVkohli @MdShami11 @ImRo45 and @Jaspritbumrah93,” Ashwin tweeted.

Ashwin played just one game in the tournament and managed to pick up one wicket for 34 runs in his 10 overs during the match in Chennai. However, he dropped from the playing XI in the next match and didn’t get any other opportunity to represent the team.

However I can’t help but applaud the giants of modern-day cricket “Australia”. What they did on the field yesterday was just unbelievable. Congrats on their 6th World Cup win,” Ashwin further mentioned.

Australia lifted its World Cup trophy under the leadership of Allan Border in 1987. They went on to win the trophies in 1999, 2003, 2007, 2015, and 2023. Ricky Ponting is the only captain to win the trophy twice for the Australian cricket team in ODI World Cup history.
