Former Windies legend, Viv Richards, seemed pleased with the way Delhi Daredevils (DD) batsman, Rishabh Pant fared in this edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and admitted he has evolved as a new power hitter.

Meanwhile, Pant bagged the Emerging Player of the Tournament award after the summit clash at the Wankhede. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) thumped Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets to lift the trophy.

Although Delhi didn’t have a good season, Pant stamped his authority in the league. The southpaw scored 684 runs in 14 games including a century to finish, as the second highest run-scorer after Kane Williamson.

Writing in his column in TOI, Richards mentioned how Pant impressed him this year. He also talked highly about few players who have done well for their franchise.

Delhi’s Rishabh Pant has evolved as the new power hitter in the game and has also been smart with his batting when his team needed him. Each player plays a crucial role and some players have stood out in this edition. Rashid Khan, for instance, has not failed to impress along with KL Rahul and Ambati Rayudu who have been equally sensational. Narine, Raina, and Russell, like every season, have done what they do best,” Richards wrote.

IPL 2018 was about young talents

Further, the former cricketer also mentioned this edition of the league was all about young talents. He noted young players stepped whenever their team needed the most.

IPL 2018 was all about the young talent stepping up and leading from the front as and when their teams needed them to. K Gowtham and Shreyas Gopal have been fantastic with their all-round performances for the Royals and have helped them win games on numerous occasions. Siddarth Kaul has taken the words of his mentors and perfected his death over spells,” he added.

In conclusion, he also credited Chennai and Rajasthan Royals for making a swift comeback to the league after two years.
